Alright, my apologies for the sensational title. I was listening to Jovi's new album "16 Wives" (released about a month ago) and figured I'd make this thread to talk about him and new-age African music in general.
First off, Jovi is a Cameroonian rapper, songwriter, record producer and co-owner of New Bell music. Until recently, Cameroonian music was dominated by genres like Makossa or Bikutsi but things are changing rapidly. There's a new generation of artists that are exploring genres that have traditionally been deemed "western" in the region and...it's fucking awesome.
Jovi in particular reminds me a lot of Kanye West in some ways: he experiments a lot with his music, his beats are unusual, and he often uses a lot of older African music for sampling.
His first album "H.I.V" was godlike. Then entire album is available on bandcamp...FOR FREE. Download it here.
If you need some direction, here are a few of his signature tracks that I think really encapsulate what he's all about:

https://jovilemonstre.bandcamp.com/track/piti-feat-rochereau-tabu-ley
https://jovilemonstre.bandcamp.com/track/b-a-s-t-a-r-d-feat-reniss

https://jovilemonstre.bandcamp.com/track/mongshung-produced-by-le-monstre
https://jovilemonstre.bandcamp.com/track/z-l-produced-by-le-monstre
As I mentioned earlier, "16 Wives" was released not too long ago and is available for $9 bandicamp. A few tracks are available to listen to:

https://jovilemonstre.bandcamp.com/track/man-pass-man-pt-3
Finally, I'm just really glad that a lot of the new-age African talent is branching out and trying different things. The results have been really impressive, at least for me. Here's a list of artists and few tracks for you to check out if you want to listen to something different today:
