At Home Dad didn't go anywhere for about 5 episodes. They come to the same conclusions at the end of every episode. I felt like an old woman watching it too...maybe i'm being too harsh.

And how can any of you watch Gokusen 3?? Don't do it! Gokusen 2 was bad enough (it was the exact same show without the great DOM and Rui!!!).

Who's watching Makino's (I forget her real name and am too lazy to look it up right now) show First Kiss? Anyone watch Lotto yet? Or 81 Diver?

Lotto is good and dropped diver after the 4th ep, just didn't click with me. Makino is damn hot in first kiss

i spent my short undeserved and unsanctioned break watching first kiss, last friends, and rookies (in that order, more or less). i thought first kiss was pretty bad (although inoue mao is predictably earth-shatteringly hot), and i had a lot of trouble trying to figure out how the show was interesting after episode 6 or so.

but then i watched last friends. holy shit, that was the worst, most insipid and often just outright offensive, piece of tv i've ever seen. i've since decided that just as 24 (post-season 1 of course!) is an exact characterization of everything that's wrong with TV drama in the US, last friends is an exact characterization of all the poor production (how the hell can the lighting be so shit? is the crew carrying flashlights to light the scene?), terrible fucking writing (what the fuck was that kid there for?) and affected acting (every scene with the abusive boyfriend) that erupts from the cratered acne that is most japanese tv drama.

even ueno juri, who i'm convinced is the only female tv personality in japan who is actually trying to act, doesn't bring the show to the lid of the trash can. it is firmly nestled at the bottom of the bin under vegetable matter and several used condoms.

OTOH, rookies has been pretty cool (waiting for subs on the last two episodes), but is clearly just GTO with a (hilarious!) sports twist.

Yes, she is so so so hot. I cute too. Really, that's all that takes for me to give a show a chance, and that in itself is pretty pathetic.

You have to let your guard down to appreciate Last Friends. The characterizations just get more and more silly, but the ending is just a big fart.

This season's GTO is Umi to taiyou no kyoshitsu, you should check that out too.

It's getting pretty good ratings, too. Answer me this: Does it have any good romance in it? Most of these amazing teacher shows are severely lacking in this dept.

Nah, unless you consider the teachers love for his students as romance! And I do!

that is the hottest kind, friend.

wait, you mean the teacher's sexual love right? after-class delight?

Holy shit!

Downloading.

edit: Crap, totally disappointed. Thought it was gonna be about a female teacher falling in love with a student. I'll check it out anyway.

Anyone watching Loto6 or Yasuko to Kenji? I am currently watching those two and enjoying them quite a bit. Loto6 is pretty good, but I am really enjoying Yasuko to Kenji. It's got Hirosue in it!

Yeah Last friends is infinitely more enjoyable when you stop taking it seriously. Man the shit they toss out there the last two episodes had me rolling.

If anyone is looking for a sweet and romantic series. I suggest Gakko ja Oshierarenai!. About the only 5 dudes in an all girl school who are forced to join the dance club with the 5 outcast girls of the school. It also has a bit of Stand Up! mixed in, and Fukada Kyoko, who I think plays the same character no matter the show.

I'm assuming since you guys like J-Dramas, you've probably checked out a few K-Dramas as well. Anybody check 1st prince of Coffee House yet? It was highly recommended to me, but I'm not liking how Yoon Eun Hye (who is normally a cutie) is acting so much like a guy. I haven't finished the first episode yet though, so it'll probably get better.

I am watching these dramas in the current season, and so far I like them :
- Gakko ja Oshierarenai!
- Seigi no Mikata
- Here is Greenwood
- Code Blue
- Maou
- Yasuko to Kenji

I love that shows, but it falls a bit short of Seigi no Mikata to me. Both are great comedy dramas, check them out if you haven't already.

the best drama of last year and i watched every single god damm good drama from Japan, Korea and China. I must war you though, this drama is very addictive. just wait til u get to episode 10 and 11.

I switched my summer drama pick to "yottsu no uso" because its basically a Japanese desperate housewives.

Guys I need some recommendations. (Some were made earlier in this thread, but this thread is huge, and I really don't want to navigate through all of it, to find replies to my question)

I like light hearted/ feel good shows.

I have seen and liked:

GTO
Densha Otoko
Kekkon Dekinai Otoko
Nodame Cantabile

(I may be missing a couple)

At the moment I am watching Dragon Zakura and enjoying it as well.

Thanks for any suggestions.

My opinion of 1st Prince of Coffee House has done a complete 180 after the 2nd episode. I guess the 1st episode needed to setup the situation so it was a bit plodding and awkward, but now the fun begins. I'm loving this show :lol

Can you recommend other Korean shows? The only Korean drama I've watched completely is Full House, which I loved, but the other copy-cats I've briefly seen with sassy female leads haven't interested me much. I don't like sad shows either.

I'm really like maou as well. It's the first J-Drama I've ever watched and I'm really impressed with it.

I recently watched My boss my hero and man, it was some really funny stuff. Check it out

WA-TA-!!!!!!!!

WA-TA!!!!!!!!!

That one is totally my favorite.

I've been working at my friend's house, and I got to rewatch the first J-drama I ever saw: Densha Otoko.

Noticed some things:

1.She says she didn't have her contacts in, so she didn't see that he was a nerd on the train. HOWEVER, the woman is reading an English-language book on the train. So, her eyesight was good enough to read a foreign language, but not good enough to see if a person dressed dorky? Hmm. Is this intentional or a mess up? Did she actually know the whole time he was a dork, but didn't care? I don't know.

2. Her little brother is totally the robot guy from Zettai Kareshi

3. There are several people who were both in this AND akihabara@deep. Some even have super small parts in this show, and huge parts in the other show.

4. This show is as stupid as it is brilliant.

5. The ending song is fucking awesome as hell.

That is all.

WAIT, also, the wait for the last two episodes of Rookies is criminal.

Finally finished Rookies...well, outside of the movie and special in the future. Very cheesey, but enjoyable.

This new season has a few drama worth checking out, but most air in October.

"URUSAI!!!" *punches face* "Baaaaaaaaaka"

What are you looking forward to this fall, dude?

Cat Street (which I just realized was actually airing now) since it was by the Hana Yori Dango author.

Giragira, because it is about male hosts and stars that one cool guy from Shikaotoko.

Room of King, because from the brief description it seems like the title sums up the show nicely.

I also probably will go back and check out some things from last season that I missed. I think I just wanted to finish Rookies before I started a new show, but that took much longer than I expected.

Near sighted vs far sightedness.

I can read a book without my contacts, but I'll be damned if I could make your face out if you were sitting across from me.

Another +1 for pretty much anything with Nagase Tomoya in it....Tiger & Dragon comes to mind.

Anyone watching Seigi no Mitaka? I just finished watching Episode 10, the finale. The show was so hilarious at times and the characters were very likeable (well maybe except that love interest of Youko, the main character). It's being fansubbed by a group called "Massuki"

I just finished rookies.

Haha... that was the cheesiest over the top finale ever. When i saw how much time they wasted before even reaching Koshien, then I looked at the fact they were ALL juniors, it's clear that we have another season of overly-positive teachers and melodramatic tough guys.

Although, they really fucked up. The half-white dude was on deck when Aniya hit into the triple play, but he didn't lead off the next inning. That shattered the illusion! Anyway, if this does get a second season, which I fully expect, i will totally watch it.

Not to sound weird, but can you guys recommend something recent with a cute girl in it? I mean, let's face it, it makes watching these shows a little easier. (Seigi no Mikata wouldn't be so watchable, for example, if the "Akuma-like" older sister girl wasn't so mindblowingly, devastatingly hot. I mean, the fact she's so mean makes her hotter.)

I'm half-way through 1st Shop of Coffee Prince right now, and one of the female leads is gorgeous. Cute, funny show too.

I don't know if Rookies will get a full second season, but they already have plans for a special and a movie.

Eh, is that so? really, they would seriously have to fall off the wagon to get enough material for a second season.

So, like, Yu Yamada is mindbogglingly sexy. Just saying. Her fake lips, although fake, are really amazing in that there Ally of Justice show (正義の味方）.

You know guys, all it takes is a subtle mention in this thread to spark me watching a show. So, I'll check out your suggestions.

Makiko-sama doing the Para-Para:

I think Seigi no Mikata is one of the funniest jdramas I've seen. I like both lead females. All of their facial expressions are well done. I've only seen 3 episodes, and I'm assuming all of the episodes have the same basic structure where Makiko ends up winning at the end despite her selfishness, but I still find the situations they go through pretty entertaining.

I'm also watching Yasuko to Kenji mostly because of I'm a fan of Ryoko Hirosue. She's still very cute, pretending to be the sweet/tough girl, but I don't find this series as funny as SnM.

Just finished Ice World.. It was pretty good. :lol A little different than what I'd been watching recently. :) Now I'm finally getting around to Koukou Kyoushi 1993. This one has been on my to-watch list for a whiiile now.

Thanks for having a post on 'My Boss, My Hero' It's now my 2nd favorite asian drama

Current only episode 9 of seigi no mikata, now.

If you finish it, let it be known. I want to discuss some shit about that.

And, My Boss, My Hero is probably my absolute favorite. I'm trying to think what's better...

Wow, the last ep reduced my Makiko hatred by a lot

Yeah. No doubt. I think it was supposed to. However, I would have preferred if she got hers. Yet, I guess the world is a far better place with her in it, including the good fortune her little sister had with the story she wrote.

I liked when she said "You know my sister is an evil demon, right?" and her husband was like "Dude, did you SEE that ass? I like it when she's mean; It gets me off hard." or something like that. My Japanese needs work. But, I'm almost positive that's what he said.
