this was cute, and better than moto kare, i think, despite the lack of kinki kids.Swordian said:
It's all about Furin Kazan, you girly men. Stop watching dopey chick soap operas just because they have asian girls in them.

Like, that one guy (was the ascii guy in Densha Otoko) who plays the "too cool for school" character. He's in like every show... as the too cool for school character. Actually, I've never seen a J-drama that didn't have a character from Hana Yori Dango in it.

sp0rsk said:Then you haven't seen many dramas before 2005? Or many in general? I mean, yeah, the talent pool isn't huge, but its a lot bigger than you think.
They tend to use popular actors more often because it's an easy way to get ratings.

Linkzg said:in general, Soaps try to be all dramatic, the J-Drama I have seen are atleast funny and upbeat compared to things like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoLB8PxGrQ4
for comparison sake: Nodame Cantabile Rhapsody in Blue scene

Here are the TV rankings for dramas if anyone is interested.

tnw said:I saw ads for this on the subway recently.
I have a feeling this was on TV a couple of years ago though. Or at least I remember seeing bilboards for it.
kpop100 said:There are 4 TV season a year in Japan, so most drama actors are in 4 different series a year, in addition to other variety type shows and appearances. Also entertainers in Japan seem more like everyday workers, and less like the pampered stars in US TV shows.

Japanese day time dramas, those are fucking crazy.
Same here... Watch GTO and the special... The movie, kinda meh.chinmonster said:GTO = bitchin'./ it's also the only J-Drama I've ever seen

Serious question... do you really think it's good, or is this more of a "so bad, it's good" thing?Linkzg said:Hana Yori Dango is unbelievable, it is sooo good.
I cant believe how much I am enjoying it, I wish I found out earlier about how amazing it is.

I'm watching it too... it's sooo terrible... but kind of funny every once in a while (and the main girl is of course crazy cute :lol). The comedic parts are enjoyable, but the drama comes off as trying to take itself seriously, when really it's like a power-rangers episode in terms of sophistication.
Needless to say, I'll keep watching.
