Jack Thompson vs Halo 3?

Marconelly said:
JT being off the mark as usual. I don't even understand why Halo was rated M. The game is not really that violent, and you shoot at purple and blue aliens. At the same time, Medal of Honor, where you kill people, is rated T. Go figure.

Shooting nazi humans is more socially acceptable than sniping purple aliens or sparking robots.

R.I.P.
Jack Thomson

Looser lawyer died a coward, cowering in the corner of the ring until the final blow was to much for Jack. His last words "I'll sue your ass offfff" fell on deaf ears. He was hated by many including his adultress wife, shareholders of several companies, and millions of gamers including his son a major Halo fan!

I don't think even jack believes he can win this one. He just wants to add Microsoft to his resume of companies he "took on". Right up there with Best Buy :lol

You are messing with the wrong game Thompson. If something happens to Halo 3, you will regret it. You will regret it.

:lol

and what do you think will happen to him if something did happen?

I disagree with that. He was on Fox News after the Virginia Tech shootings, talking to people who probably take him a lot more seriously than we do.

Jack Thompson on Hardball.

Again, the only people who care what this guy has to say are the video game enthusiast press. The rest of the world doesn't know, or care, who he is.

Halo hyperviolent? :lol

Why isn't this guy ragging on Gears of War? That's hyperviolent!

(I wouldn't mind if little brats didn't get Halo though)

He's not hardcore enough of a gamer hater to know about Gears... probably because it's an original IP.

I've never even understood why HALO was rated MA to begin with. There's hardly any blood and gore, and when there is its Alien and blue.

And, yeah,, good one Jackie-Boy. Please, sue Microsoft, the company that's taken on full blown sovereign countries in Court and fought them to a stalemate.

GTA does not have hardcore diehard fans who would take it personally. Halo does have that kind of fans, the same a MGS or FF. Imagine the fury of hundreds of fanboys doing pranks to him or even acting violently. It would be madness. The MS attack would be only the coup de grace.

He seems to primarily target games where it is people-on-people violence. Despite all the carnage in Gears, you're fighting monsters. He cites the Halo 3 Beta as his source for "hyperviolence" in Halo 3. Apparantly he missed the MP portions of the first two games, or the fact that you fight aliens in the campaign.

Actully I have to disagree with this one, there is blood in halo especiallly multiplayer.

there's plenty of human blood, particularly in multiplayer

also, the single player campaign uses some colorful language from time to time

Lee Boyd Malvo trained on Microsoft’s Halo

HE WAS A MILITARY TRAINED SNIPER....

let's guess what makes you a better sniper : Halo with it's assisted aiming or Military training with a real rifle...
The Beta version that was released last week shows us all just how violent the game is and how inappropriate it is for play by anyone under 17, as the “Mature” rating it will surely receive indicates.

Translation : The Beta version, which i've never touched, because if i had - that would mean i'd seen Crackdown and i'd be complaining about how you can harpoon people to a car.

Yeah I was kidding (just like this post), but even still, if JT was the God fearing douchebag he says he is then he would know that Masterchief is a cyborg and cyborgs have no souls, meaning you can (and should) kill as many of them as possible in order to improve your k/d ratio... am I right, or what?

I hope MS crushes this sorry excuse of a man.
Oh your god,

Well considering he took on Take 2 and settled... apparently he now thinks he is capable of taking on MS.

Well you know taking on the rather small guy and sorta getting something does not count when you are going up against the UBER JUGGANAUGHT.

Still, he isn't barking up the wrong tree... this is like trying to have sex with a blender. :lol

If you think they are willing to resort to violence over a game, than that really does not say much for the fans of this game, does it?

I remember at a church where the multiplayer part of halo was used to illustrate a point a youth pastor was making in his sermon. So I'm guessing even the evangelical southern baptist are too liberal for Jack Thompson or they were training snipers for some sort of an assault.

i've seen sales charts, heard people on xbox live, and read posts on messageboards and have come to accept that old jack thompson has a point about video games and gamers, but his methods do not help his cause.

someone send him the youtube url for the chocolate milk kid video, just for giggles

Well, I said probably. And while that is nice to see, he's still getting attention from people with a lot more influence than we have.

I am horrified that a man who cant even pen a proper letter is allowed to practice law. Really, his open letters look like they belong on a myspace page or something. It get even worse when Jack does a letter from the point of view of someone talking about Jack.

Yep, it does not. However, its the sad truth. Halo fans may resort to violence or pranks.

Redmond Mail Room (shreader) > Press Office > Peter Moore > Bill Gates

Guess how far his letter got..:lol

Although if you cut out his hyperbole about nothing he has a point children should nit be able to buy games under hte age rating, in the uk the ratings are the same as films legally enforceable i have no problems with this

:lol :lol :lol OMFG that just made my night!

And yeah, he's after the wrong game. If he does anything to try and hurt the Master Chief, I'll noob combo his ass and then spawn camp him so bad, man......so ****in bad. Then I'll get BOTH snipers and just sit over his spawn. And if he talks any shit about it, he's a ***, bitch, nigga, etc. And if those clever insults and the spawn camping STILL aren't enough to make him quit, I'll blow his ****in FACE OFF with the SHOTGUN. YEAH! CUZ USING THE SHOTGUN IN HALO IS AWESOME AND BEING GOOD AT HALO MEANS I'M TOTALLY TOUGH IN REAL LIFE! RESPEK! RESPEK! I'M TEH HALOZ GODZ!!!! JACK TOMPSHON IS MY BITCH!! I RULE AT HALO SO I'M TOUGH IN REAL LIFE!! YEAAAH!!!!

Thompson needs a GAF account.

So he can make a topic and we could post the :lol smiley as our replies. It would definitely beat the Halo 3 Beta, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, and Oblivion threads combined.

It really does seem like a satire. Just imagining Colbert was the actual writer makes it so much better.

Re: Halo 3
Dear Mr. Gates:

As you know, the Federal Trade Commission has repeatedly found that games rated “Mature” by the video game industry-captured Entertainment Software Rating Board are routinely sold to kids under the age of 17 despite the age rating. The most recent failure rate of the ratings on “Mature” games, according to the FTC, is 42%. The entire rating system is a fraud, and “broken,” the latter description aptly provided by Senator Hillary Clinton.

As you also know, Lee Boyd Malvo trained on Microsoft’s Halo to further enable him to become the remarkably efficient “DC Beltway Sniper.” That was reported by NBC News at the time and was noted in Malvo’s criminal trial.

You appeared on CBS’ 60 Minutes II and rather revealing and usefully noted that “the cool thing about these games is that they transport you to a world you think is real.” Precisely. Capcom has recently disclosed to investors that your video game industry’s violent games, sold to children, pose a real hazard to the health of the industry. Right on.

The hyperviolent Microsoft Xbox 360 game Halo 3 is scheduled by your company for commercial release in September of this year. The Beta version that was released last week shows us all just how violent the game is and how inappropriate it is for play by anyone under 17, as the “Mature” rating it will surely receive indicates.

Here’s the deal, Mr. Gates: Either Microsoft undertakes dramatic, real steps, through its marketing, wholesale, and retail operations to assure that Halo 3 is not sold, via the Internet and in stores, directly to anyone under 17, or I shall proceed to make sure that Microsoft is held to that standard by appropriate legal means. I have done that before successfully as to Best Buy, and I shall do so again as to Microsoft and all retailers of Halo 3.

Regards, Stephen Colbert

What a retard - Halo 3 ultraviolent? What?

That's great that he doesn't want it to be sold to minors, but I look forward to him getting shut down by MS's lawyers over this crap...

I laughed there too. The whole thing was funny but that just screamed "PUNCHLINE!" better than anything else in the letter.

Why hasn't be been disbarred yet? What is the hold up?

I wish Microsoft would bury him but they probably won't waste their time on such a worthless venture.

They should make a game about Jack thompson.

If i was the ESRB, id rate his game: Rated R aka "Retarded" or IM "Ignorant Moron"

FUN FACT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Halo used to be rated T. If you go back and find any of the old boxes that were in stores or the cardboard standups, they all had it rated T.

To prove this isn't uncommon to change the ratings, I have a mature rated version of starcraft.
