Jaffe:"Is this biased journalism? Or is it just me?"

In terms of console sales the PS3 is almost as big a disaster as the PSP console is .. oh wait.

I guess someone can write yet another Journalism failure article as well.

The ps3 may be in third place but its no where near a failure its being accused of. Of course its not beating the competition but its twice the price. Perhaps the journalist could be fair and point out what many consider a better value over the other consoles. Point out the great environment it currently has in the PSN download game space. Focus on what an amazing job SONY first party is doing putting out new IP and in IMO the best fist party games so far of the top three manufactures.

I mind his paycheck comes from Microsoft and when someone from Msoft approaches me with such slant against the PS3, I get suspicious. Most sane people would. Not cause 360 is bad, not cause msoft is evil. But they are the main competition of Sony and it just looks bad and feels wrong.

David

heh. MS might make the PS3's most direct competition but that tiny spec you see near the horizon is the main competitor.

In fact, you could argue that the PS3 and 360 aren't really competition at all. Instead they need each other to form an install base that can even conceivably support the high cost of developing HD games.

Without the 360's 1 year head start on the Wii HD gaming might have collapsed entirely.

Oh, and didn't you say that Sony was close to breaking even on the PS3 hardware?

So if Sony is making profits on the PS2 PSP and payments from 3rd party developers and they are basically breaking even on the PS3 hardware then they must be losing a fuckton of money on their 1st party efforts, correct? Otherwise, how would they have managed to only break even in the final quarter of 08?

Not really a good advertisement for the prospects of PS3 exclusive titles.

For what it's worth, I don't think we're disagreeing here so much as having different takes. Me? I see a bunch of rather silly questions that have been asked and answered god knows how many times. Instead of the "how awesome is awesome?" meme, it becomes "how shitty is shit?"

Just in case I wasn't the clear the first time, however, I think the accusations of bias are absolutely inappropriate on Jaffe's part (and as I said, based on his comments here, it seems he's backed off from that quite a bit).

You don't have to defend yourself, I wasn't trying to bash you.

I'm sorry to say this about Jaffe, but every time I hear something about him, he's either defending Sony to the death, or trying (his hardest) to disprove that he is a Sony fanboy by naming games on "competitor's" console.

This seems to be the case, but I think it's primarily because X360 picks up the majority of the slack that PS3 will continue to see some multiplatform releases...so, in a way, X360 helps to sustain some of PS3's multi-platform development.

What's wrong with the article?

Exactly. Truman = Nintendo, and Dewey = Sony. I assume in this analogy that J. Edgar Hoover = MS.

:lol I see you're one of those "Sony can't catch up" people. Do you know by any chance how many people still use PS2s as their primary and only gaming console?

Last gen they outside their closest rival by 100 million+ consoles made billions of dollars and had every single third party tripping over to get on their console.

Now their in third place and being absolutely blown away by the wii, they have lost billions of dollars and are no longer the go to console for third parties.

Why should they focus on the amazing job sony are doing? Did anyone do that with microsoft or nintendo last gen?

The PS3 is a blunder of epic proportions so it's no surprise that's what journalists want to talk about.

Those people don't buy software. They'll move over to the Wii and not buy software as soon as they can afford one.

I'm glad someone of his position(meaning a lot of folks care about his opinions) said it. It's time to start calling out names. :lol

It barely mentioned Microsoft at all.

"MS went from a distant second place to an improved second place". Doesn't really have a nice ring to it, does it?

Let me rephrase that.
What SCOOP this piece of shit of xbot 'journalist' shared with us?
ok?

Can you rephrase it again? Third time's the charm.

Heh, the only problem with this is it is almost to a T on the track of Gamecube actual sale through in the US and Japan, and there is zero way of spinning that. Eeiry I know.

Oh what a total crock of shit. It's 50/50 venture with GE for goodness sakes. This guy paid by MS is out to get ya now.

Laughable excuse.

1. Using the term "xbot" or "ntard" etc is beyond sad and belongs on lesser forums.
2. As far as I can tell, Mr. Jaffe didn't answer the journalist's questions, so nobody is sharing ANY information, other than the content of what I'm sure was supposed to be a private email.
3. We have, as a civilization established, beyond all shadow of doubt that asking pointless fluffy questions results in pointless fluffy non-answers.
4. MSNBC has no more to do with the Xbox business than Minidisc players have to do with OPM.
5. The original questions were designed to shed light on a particular avenue, or "angle" the reporter was going for.
6. Every single journalist worth their salt goes for an "angle." in this case it's an angle that displeases you. And it's an angle far more interesting to their mainstream demographic than say, "the motion blur on Killzone 2 is particularly awesome."
7. I wish someone would close this thread because it's truly pathetic.
8. Puttting someone's profession in "quotes" does not invalidate it. You should try it in a complaint letter to a "paramedic."

Wow. What a turn this thread has taken. It was all but dead - with a small chance of resurrection if David returned, but then we get a meltdown out of the blue.

I love GAF.
