Strikes me as odd and sad at the same time

Official report

We've received word that a respected member of our tech community, James Kim (whom many of you may know as CNET's senior editor of digital audio), and his family have gone missing. As we understand it, last weekend James, his wife Kati (above right), and his very young girls Penelope (left) and Sabine (baby), drove from their home in the SF Bay Area to Seattle. They were expected back some time Sunday, but were last heard from Saturday in or between Gold Beach or Portland, Oregon. We sincerely do hope they are all safe, and our hearts go out to the Kim family.

We'll have more information as we get it. If you have any information as to the Kim family's whereabouts, please contact the SFPD at 415-558-5508 during normal business hours, and 415-553-1071 after hours.

Update: Crave reports that James and his family are driving a 2005 silver Saab stationwagon with license plate "DOESF." The official missing person report can be found here.

I've received information on his airplane seating assignments and, frankly, I'm amazed they didn't disappear sooner.

Guys, there are times for kidding around. This is NOT a time for that, don't take it personally but this is serious.

On topic: This is very saddening. When peoples disappear its ****ing creepy to say the least...just one moment there and the next gone. Its like when you get something stolen, your always on the look for it and think "Is that mine!?". I feel really bad for the family. Ca't believe this happend, I remember him from somewhere other than CNET though.

I hope everything is okay and some psycho(s) didn't pull any crap.

**** every one of you insensitive ****ing assholes that made a joke about this. I've known families that have had members vanish and then turn up dead. It's not anything to ****ing crack a joke about. You should be disgusted with yourselves. Grow the **** up.

No, perhaps the tasteless jerks that made jokes about an entire family that has been missing for 6 days should stop coming to GAF. There are some things that really don't need to be joked about. If they turn up safe, then sure, joke away. Right now, it's pretty horrible that someone would find humor in this.

It's the internet, people come here to escape reality

Putin did it. I saw him there with the one-armed man.

I don't get this "holier than thou" attitude going on here. I'm sure everyone is sad to hear this but this is GAF and things are poked at on here. It's a fact of GAF. If you don't like it, IGNORE IT.

Man if you guys are mad because GAF's joking around, you should really maybe stop coming to GAF.

I'd have to agree.

I'm not saying it's not serious, but really...GAF is known to make fun of everything in some way. I'm still fairly new here (few months or so), but there has not been a single thread I've seen that does not have jokes in it. Just some observation.

edit: That said, I do wish them best. I like his cNet work :)

wow people are getting pissed because some gaffers cracked a joke...

stfu you noobs, this is SPART-- er.. GAF! !!!!!11

I read a story about some actor or musician who was taking a ride along the road that stretches from Cali to Washington or wherever. Anyways, he went missing for a while and nobody heard from him for years. There was a search and everything and people seemed to think he just skipped off to some tropical isle since he had the money to do so. A few years later, some hikers found a van at the bottom of this cliff and his body was in it. Turns out he just accidentally (or purposely) drove off a cliff and died.

This story instantly reminded me of that. Hopefully, everything turns out ok.

I live around there. There's been a lot of snow earlier this week so maybe they didn't have chains/snow tires and are waiting for the passes to clear up. Hopefully they weren't in a wreck or something.

Yeah it actually Snowed/(ice rain) here in the Portland area a few days ago.. so the mountain ranges in the south would most likely be blocked/closed until they were cleaned up. Hope they are ok.
