  • Japan's military reported on Tuesday that it lost an F-35 stealth jet some 84 miles off the east coast of Aomori prefecture, Japan, in the Pacific.
  • Experts say Russia and China will do anything to get a look at the crashed jet, and if they do find it or can salvage it, they could seriously undermine the next several decades of US airpower.
  • Russia and China probably couldn't perfectly reconstruct the F-35, but any of its technology that ends up in the countries' hands would be a blow to the heart of the US military.
Meh the PAK-FA and J-20 are already better than this aircraft. But they might gleam some interesting software/computer parts from its cockpit and learn how to better counter its systems during combat. RIP US F-35 program.

This claim is unsubstantiated.

RIP US F-35 program.
Yes, a crash of a Japanese F-35 which won't even have the same capabilities as its US counterpart will spell the doom of the entire US F-35 program - that same program that has supposedly already been surpassed by the Chinese. Seems legit.

Wreckage from a Japanese F-35 stealth fighter jet has been found, a day after it disappeared from radar over the Pacific Ocean.

The pilot of the plane, however, is still missing, Japanese military officials said.

Parts of the plane have been recovered during search operations at sea.

Looks like the US military will survive for another day.

The J-20 looks like a fat pig and is obviously a stolen F-22 design.

If we are to believe this more recent report from it seems that some decorated pilots actually like the jet.

In an F-22 and F-35, one of the most enjoyable things is being virtually undetectable until it’s way, way, way too late for the threat. If you manage the signature really well, and you do it in a way that is integrated with the other platforms, most of the time the threat doesn’t know you’re there. And that’s why I have extreme faith that the machine is going to be the most dominant aircraft ever built.

Even if that piece was PR, China and Russia could copy the awareness platform, which is the key piece of the fighter.

F35 is a weak and overpriced aircraft

the regular F18 still easily beats it

but i feel sorry for the pilot i hope he survived

They most likely don’t give a shit, with the west appalling cyber defence efforts and companies like Lockheed pushing profit over security I don’t doubt for a second that Russia or China don’t already have all the information/plans of the F-35.

How could you possibly know? The most highly classified systems in the mordern military are the electronics packages. A fight between technologically advanced nation's isn't going to be about a planes top speed, turn radius, or how many pounds of armament it can carry. It is going to be about whose radar sees the other first, whose ECM suite confuses the other's electronics, etc.

Even militaries are bad at predicting battlefield dominance technologies until they actually get into a war. Just look at what people thought would dominate the battlefield pre -WW2 vs. post WW2. Battleships vs. aircraft carriers, immobile artillery vs. tanks. Typically countries prepare for the last war they fought and don't see how the paradigm shifts for the next war.

i don't see the f35 as the mistake many do (many ancillary benefits), but goddamn they gotta get those costs down

rip to the pilot, hope death was instant

If that were true, then it's far better than the F-35. The F-22 runs circles around the F-35. Self defeating argument. But of course you peddle nonsense regardless; the J-20 bears no resemblance to any American aircraft.

Aircraft porn. Wish all of these aircraft could be part of Ace Combat 7. Not just the three in the middle.

Yo. I scoured through the whole article for mention of the actual pilot. None at all... it was quite saddening tbf
Yeah and since I’m in this area of work I know what can happen to a pilot :(

This is the most of the info you can get now:

The pilot, a man in his 40s whose name is being withheld, said via radio that he would discontinue the training shortly before the ASDF’s radar lost track of the jet at 7:27 p.m., when it was about 135 km east of Misawa Air Base in the prefecture.

The major was a veteran pilot with a flight experience of 3,200 hours, which includes 60 hours of operating the F-35A.
https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2019/04/10/national/air-self-defense-force-fighter-jet-disappears-radar-pacific/#.XK3bH5hKguU

The rest is either between "news don't gave a shit" or "highly classified info".

Speaking of peddling nonsense, still waiting for you to substantiate your claim of the J-20’s superiority.

No just using paper specs, it's all we have since these three countries have not yet gone to war.
Paper specs mean nothing, they're not even accurate in most cases. It's also not a very useful comparison since the aircraft are designed for different things, you'd be better off comparing it to the F-22. Also, the Pak-Fa isn't entering mass production anyway.

They won't get shit.

Also, the OP doesn't know Jack shit about the F35 or what he thinks is "already better".

Source? I'm a JTAC.
The F35, and F22 even on just the secret level have incredible features. Once you go deeper (TS etc) it's straight up jaw dropping.

They mean more than your opinion. And the last part is your opinion too.

Ah yes the secret sauce. Super effective against mountain goat herds and 1960's hand me down armies that can't even train themselves properly.

What have you stated in this thread that was anything other than opinion? What’s your source for these paper specs, and in what way do they prove your assertion that the J20 is superior?

The official specs are public. Look them up. My assertion is based on carry capacity, range, enthusiast analysis of specs, etc.

This is the fourth time I’m asking and still nothing of substance from you. Enthusiast analysis? Now we’re relying on other random (non-military) opinions? Care to link any of them? Are you just using Wikipedia for your numbers?

Since you’re unwilling to show any substance, here’s some evidence rebutting your nonexistent arguments:

The J-20 is touted as China’s entry in stealth air superiority - but they still haven’t been able to build a jet that can match their claims.

https://www.scmp.com/news/china/diplomacy-defence/article/2130718/why-chinas-first-stealth-fighter-was-rushed-service

China rushed its first advanced jet into service ahead of schedule last year using stopgap engines, in the face of rising security challenges in the region, The China Sunday Morning Post has learned.

But that means its capabilities will be severely limited, affecting its maneuverability and fuel efficiency as well as stealthiness at supersonic speeds.
The aircraft was equipped with inferior engines designed for earlier warplanes when it first joined the air force in March (2017) because of “critical problems” with its tailor-made WS-15 engine, exposed by an accident in 2015, had not been fixed, two independent military sources told the Post.
So it looks like China’s premier stealth fighter is having problems with its stealth capability. How can you claim with any credibility that the J-20 can outperform the F-35?

These are new aircraft still being introduced into service, so like the F-22's disastrous introduction, and the F-35's buggy mess, things need to be ironed out.. And because the F-35 can easily be detected and tracked by modern radar. Beyond this the Russian and Chinese jets are better in every way. Stealth in this context means nothing. The F-35 is trash. So many orders reduced or cancelled. Development costs are comical given the end result. It's the littoral combat ship disaster on a larger scale.

Ok so I guess you’re never going to state anything other than your opinion. Thanks for confirming you don’t actually have any facts to back up your claims.

Were both speculating, you're just totally dismissing the officially released paper specs of each weapons platform (the only thing we have to work with). Nah, you're wrong. Time to duel to the death.

A J-20 that has the capabilities of the “officially released paper specs” doesn’t exist. You still refuse to point to what exactly makes the J-20 a superior platform.

EDIT: If I was good at memes I’d post a humorous gif of accepting your challenge to a duel, but I don’t know how to forum on my phone.

Japan has to be held accountable, part of having such an advanced fighter jet is being in position to protect and recover it if fallen down.

I’d like to know which propaganda videos on YouTube from Russia or China you’re watching that state the F35 is an inferior aircraft. Compared to what Russia and China have, the F35 is like an alien spacecraft to them.

One of China’s and Russia’s biggest concerns in a potential war against the US would be air to air combat and the losses (China and Russia) would suffer against F22 or F35 fighters in a short period of time. The Chinese and Russians know they’d likely be outmatched, hence their focus on developing better anti air defense systems.

I agree that this is a factor, but I also think the fact that Russia has such a huge land border plays a role. There were a lot of U2 / SR-71 flights during the cold war that motivated them to develop better SAMs, whereas the US has never been at risk the same way. The USAF instead developed SEAD capabilities, because they were fighting offensively.
