I actually double-dip on games that are coming to PC since I already bought them when they release, If it comes the day that PS5 exclusives launch day one on PC. Well, I don't need a console anymore.

my switch dock is connected to my PC monitor so i'm really missing out on playing it at 1440p or higher framerates up to 165hz. but having it on Switch means i can just lift the console out the dock and keep playing in my bed, downstairs, or on the train. i'll happily give up the higher resolution/fps for portability. alright if the games were on PC (steam) i could stream them to my phone/tablet when at home but that's too much hassle and introduces lag.

if given the choice between PC/Switch i'll go Switch just for portability. I also have a PS4 but if i had the choice between buying a game like Horizon Forbidden West on PS4 or PC i'd go with PC. Playstation doesn't give me a really good reason to put up with lower graphics/performance such as portability. So I'll go PC.
I have Gaming PC and both consoles that still have exclusives(PS5 and Switch) No reason to get an Xbox, not a single one.

Still prefer to play almost everything on PS5.

BS considering even with the stock issues the PS5 outselling the PS4 at the same stage.

Thought the issue here was GPU stocks. Isn't that affecting all including PC, Xbox and Playstation?

Why blame Sony?

And what makes the situation better elsewhere?

Make sense, since you do not need to buy the latest GPUs to play the next gen games (like Deathloop) on PC.

I mean you could of picked any other game as an example... but no you went for this one... no one in Japan is buying Deathloop and its not because of the unavailability of PS5's, I believe Deathloop flopped hardest in Japan than any other region. A good example would be to look at the recent Tales of Arise which unsupringly did extremely well on PC.

Can you get TLOU on PC? No.
can you get Spiderman on PC? No.
can you get Returnal on PC? No.

And those of us who don’t have a PC would need to spend three times the price for a decent, forward looking system. If you have a PC, then sure go nuts but GPUs are still hard to find at a somewhat near MSRP tag.
Well... I've played TLoU and Spiderman on PC on PSN for PC.

I thought TLoU was awesome and currently playing TLoU2. The cool thing is I could play these games on a potato.

Sounds great, I’m so happy to see all these Japanese games coming to PC. 10-15 years ago it was a totally different story. Keep ‘‘em coming!

On the Microsoft point, that's just OEM Gaming PCs and Microsoft doesn't really go into device types where it think OEM's are serving the user. That's why they have now gone into Chromebook like devices.

The only reason that consoles exists is a surface vector for the storefronts. Unless Valve decides to go a revenue split model, Steam Machine will die again like it did last time. My opinion is that the price comparison to other gaming PCs and software support didn't work.

I would separately like Microsoft to actually introduce their own version of a big picture mode that I can boot into and switch out of as needed.
I'm sure that that's what will eventually happen, an Xbox mode directly implemented in the Windows operating system

I don't really want to buy any PlayStation games right now because I know a PC version will come out and be better and I'll have to buy it again if I want it.

I can’t say streaming is anywhere near the native PC experience. Cool that you enjoyed it- I hate streaming from PSNow on my PS5.

i'm not sure where consoles fit in all of this. Kind of obsolete devices with no future to speak of.

Firstly, Nintendo.

Secondly, I don't wanna build a PC. A lot of people don't either. You buy a console, plug it into your TV, and that's it.

Thirdly, I don't wanna fart around with settings, compatibility patches and mods before I've even started the game. I tried PC gaming and while the performance increase (at the time) was welcome, the hassle of getting games to run optimally with my setup wasn't worth it. All the publishers and developers who makes games I'm interested in generally seem to prioritise console performance over PC performance. What's more, in three short years console technology has dramatically surpassed my PC and at little more than half the cost. I returned to consoles with no regrets and have no intention of maintaining PC as a primary gaming device, especially given the currently extortionate price of cards.

People would stop playing on Nintendo Switch if they games are coming to PC? Genuine question.

It would hurt their profits for sure, because Nintendo doesn't have the major third party incentives backing them up that other platforms do. You buy Nintendo for first party, this has been the case for over two decades now. If Nintendo put their first party games on PC it would significantly undermine the incentive to adopt Nintendo hardware.

What I mean is with marketing muscle preloaded with a custom Windows OS with a more gaming interface, with easy features like sleep mode and booting with a controller.

I'm fairly sure that there are significantly more PC-only gamers who'd buy Nintendo games on PC than there are console-only Nintendo fans who'd be willing to ditch Nintendo consoles and spend 3-4 times the money on a gaming PC instead. The additional money from the former would easily make up for the money lost to the latter.

It makes a lot of sense, especially seeing for example Capcom bringing more PC games like Monster Hunter. In a way it's good for Japanese industry to get them out of their comfort zone.

Nintendo games are not technically that demanding you wouldn't need a big gaming PC. Something like Monster Hunter Rise which was a Switch exclusive before runs on toaster PCs. Hell the upcoming 64GB Steam Deck will run Monster Hunter Rise. If all Nintendo games were ported to PC you wouldn't need a powerful system.

If you're going to be running Switch games on a toaster PC that barely runs them better than the console itself then what's the point?

If you have a decent PC why would you buy games in a console? There are some specific games that are better on console like FIFA and COD but for 95% of games a PC version is the better choice. I understand that japanese are behind the times by 20 years at least but PCs are a better alternative to consoles most of the time.

The vast majority of console gamers simply do not want to game on a PC. That may be especially true in Japan, but it's true in Europe and North America as well. Even on enthusiast boards like this one where people spend inordinate sums on their hobby and ownership of multiple platforms is common you have tons of people who refuse to game on PC for all sorts of reasons.

To be able to run Nintendo games as well as 3rf party games that usually don't come on Switch. For example someone who wants to buy Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Mario Odyssey. Also someone who doesn't want to be restricted to Nintendo ecosystem and buy cheaper games on sale. And take their library with them as they upgrade hardware. Also not having to pay for online as well have easy access to emulation. Also majority of indie games expensive on Switch than Steam. I can think of many reasons. It could even be someone just got a laptop for work or studying and sing is a addition.

When it comes to fighting games that came out in the last year, I've been buying them on PC. Mainly because of the response time on PC rather than any other factor.

Even if I had a PS5 I'd still purchase fighting games on PC. I did buy Horizon Zero Dawn on PC after I already had it on PS4, so maybe it goes both ways. I lot of folks are double dipping, like myself.

We all know that if it wasn't for PS5 shortage this would not be happening as fast.

1.4 million copies on demons souls Is a joke. Demons souls would sell that in a day on PC alone. So would BB. It's such a fucking moronic decision not to put one of the best genres for PC gamers, on PC.

Shit needs to happen faster.

I know pc is a growing market. I got a best in class pc myself...
But I really wish consoles gaming won't die or go to the side. It's more carefree/relaxing and consoles games are more optimized around controls. I am noticing that pc releases often say "FUCK IT" when it comes to keyboard and mouse and just do some generic bindings.
On console - the experience is set up and curated in a way that is comfortable to me.
That said - as a usual moron that I am, I will get Elden Ring on pc of course... just as I did re8 village and then had some issues and setting problems. despite having 3080 pc lol (i love pc really)

1. PS5 in Japan is limited stock
2. I doubt the PC gaming market in Japan is growing much, but interesting to see facts and details.
3. Werent there like 4-5 Playstation games in the top 10 last month in Japan?

Oh, I'm sure you can think of all sorts of reasons. The question is how many people do these reasons actually apply to?

All the data available suggests that most console gamers game on console because they want to game on console, not because the games they want to play aren't on PC. Just look at Microsoft. Deciding to release all their exclusives day one on PC hasn't hurt their hardware sales one bit. In fact, their new consoles are on track to being the best-selling Xbox consoles ever.

If anything, Nintendo fans are even more loyal than Xbox fans, so why assume that things would be any different?

Of course Japanese gamers are moving to buying multi Plat games on PC or Switch over Playstation. Why would they bother with the needless, regressive censorship that Sony is pushing on its platforms? Primarily for Japanese devs to begin with!

They might in a couple of years, this way they make money from double dippers and won’t lose there hardcore base who buys consoles for exclusives like myself. Playstation is Hardware seller not just software

Sure, if you can't get a PS5 but want to play the game, it makes sense.

But I feel like we hear every few years that "oooh, now PC gaming is taking over from consoles", but it never actually happens.

I'm a Nintnedo fan, if Nintendo released on PC is never ever buy a Nintendo system again. I'm sure there are many like me. Even a mid range laptop can run Nintendo games.

But it's obvious why Nintendo prefer selling a console, they can control piracy (although Switch is hacked), they can make profit on hardware, they can also make money from software sales including taking a cut from 3rd party sales. So if I were Nintendo I'd never release on PC ever. Unless they port games after the generation is over. For example Switch games get ported to PC when Switch 2 has released.

Thats great. We should abandon consoles and go all PC gaming.
Lol. I’m a PC elitist but I wouldn’t go that far. I’m just happy that almost every game comes to PC nowadays.

Consoles stopped trying to be unique and are now just midrange gaming PCs in a box. For a lot of people that’s the simplest and cheapest way to play the games they want to play.

Anecdotally I've noticed more PC and parts shops around Tokyo. I'm sure its a niche market, but in a smaller country like Japan where sales are important enough to warrant continuous sequels to remain afloat and solvent, like Atelier say, its probably enough to get the decision maker's attention. It could just be people tired of waiting, or making a long term investment for future gaming and more, as pc's are more versatile. Plus the variety of titles they can access, including many mobile titles and gachas.

But what do I know, some(2 lol) of my adult doujin frens from glorious Nippon managed to finally score a PS5, though it took a long time, over a year. Granted they are definitely like myself in that they play much more games than the average person. I doubt console gaming is going anywhere and PS will do well, but I do believe that publishers and game stores are noticing the shift in market behavior, but really its only smart to follow what trends and habits consumers make and invest accordingly. Even if its a small split in sales differences, the higher-ups might decide to try and make bigger investments in marketing towards that new growing demographic. Who knows, could be interesting to see how things play out over the next several years.

I know its not the best way to play the game but it didn't bother me one bit. I at least got to play the game in perfectly playable way. That is after buying a DS4 controller. The Xbox controller just didn't work very well.

Yep, and it played absolutely fine. I've also completed UC1, UC2, and half way through UC3. Just having to complete TLoU2 before that leaves the service at the beginning of Jan. It looks pretty good at 1080p.

I am serious about gaming and mainly play it on the console/s.

SONY putting their games on PC is trying something different and yet people still want PS5 consoles. SONY putting their games on PC is an enormous dump on their hardcore PS5 fanboys, and it's perfectly clear that they would happily have their exclusive games on PC. Glad they're owning the image, even if it has their hardcore fanboys dumping and puking. If this sounds like a personal post, what does having a PS5 exclusive on PC? Is apart of your inner fanboyism going to die?

Doesn't hurt me any; I hope those GeForce leaks are true and SMT 5 is coming to PC as I'll be picking it up to play there (and avoid watching too much gameplay beforehand; that soundtrack is godlike tho). And FWIW I hope Street Fighter 6 is still friendly for modders because in the off-chance that game screws up like SFV, it's the modders who'll keep it alive until Capcom gets their act together.

Another benefit to PC is that it hopefully means less censorship. I haven't been happy with Sony's censorship of several Japanese games; Microsoft has had some censorship on that front too but not to the degree Sony has. Nintendo seems surprisingly lax on it which is great, but their hardware isn't exactly compatible with all types of games. Altho Steam has some issues when it comes to censorship, games tend to be a bit cheaper at release there and there are always other storefronts or publishers can just make their own launchers.

And again, the mods. Man, modding scene can add so much energy to games it's not even funny.

Yeah i guess it's pretty much the only way to play it right now on pc, i always find it weird why sony never updated those games to ps4 versions. Ps3 version isn't bad but those are flagships titles for playstation, why do they want people experiencing an inferior version? It's not like they are selling alot of copy of those games right now.
