Anymay, listen to Zankyo Reference and Niche Syndrome, their best albums.
The older albums are good too but the style isn't the same.

Sakanaction is the shit. Have been listening to their albums non-stop the last couple of weeks.

Three months here, nothing else than Sakanaction, can't wait to watch the BD of their 2011 live

Yeah, Sakanaction is pretty good, I discovered them while watching Rock In Japan 2011.
I've been listening to a lot of indie rock bands this past few weeks : plenty, Veltpunch, the Salovers, people in the box... So good.

Oh and Radwimps' latest single. Amazing.

I'm a pretty big fan of X Japan (metal/rock). They, of course, are from Japan, and have sold out an 80,000 seat stadium about 25 times, essentially making them Japan's Beatles or U2.

I really wouldn't call them Japan's Beatles... there are bigger acts.

It's more like Axl Rose, I think. The difference is that drummer manages his band members not to turn their backs on him somehow.

Arukara's latest album is pretty damn good, as usual. Too bad there are only 8 songs everytime.

Can someone recommend me music that is similar to Spitz?
I don't know what category they fall into.

I also just heard "Hybrid Rainbow" from Bump of Chicken, and I'm loving it.
songs/artists resembling this song is also welcomed.

Thank you!

Well, Hybrid Rainbow is a cover of the Pillows, so you might want to check them out. Here's the original version.

Radwimps http://youtu.be/cplNlwU5YZI
Straightener http://youtu.be/dA1Q30GR6kg
plenty http://youtu.be/7CqoJmm2GsU

Figured that went without saying :p

It pisses me off that people from outside of japan ( including myself ) fixate on the horrid visual kei / hair metal shit. This shit died in america in the 80s for a reason. When there are musicians/bands like merzbow, boris, Nisennenmondai, envy, zeni gava, etc. Japan has one of the best underground noise/punk/metal scenes in the world but people completely ignore it for the pop crap that gets produced.

I haven't listened to Japanese music in a long time besides what I hear in anime. Who are the must listen to artists nowadays?

I'll listen to pretty much anything as long as the music is good. Used to listen to UVERworld, L'arc~en~ciel, Namie, BoA, Ayumi, etc...

My personal favorites at the moment are ONE OK ROCK, Nothing's Carved In Stone, Straightener, Arukara, LITE, [Champagne], ART-SCHOOL, Uplift Spice, killing Boy...

Perfume is good too, if you like electro-pop.

EDIT : I forgot androp, The Salovers, Fujifabric, lego big morl, Starboard

So it's mainly indie stuff.

You might like Glay, Yamazaki Masayoshi, The Elephant Kashimashi, Sunny Day Service or Going Steady if you're into Spitz.

Thanks for this, as well the other post with recommendations.
I will look into them.

I liked Plenty
Didn't like Straightener
I have to listen to Radwimps again but at first listen I'm unsure.

As for Pillows, I wasn't in the mood for that music, but will listen again.

Will listen to Ogre You Asshole when I get a chance.

Thank you

EDIT: Really liked Ogre you Asshole.

I like Cosmicdust. If you like My Bloody Valentine or Slowdive you will like him.

Also, probably has been previously mentioned, but I also like Perfume and Capsule. My interest in j-pop kind of ends there though.

Rock band Sakanaction has revealed a new artist photo and jacket cover for their upcoming single, “Yoru no Odoriko” (August 29th release).

The jacket cover was designed by kamikene (Hatos), who was inspired by the lyrics of the band’s new song. The limited edition will come in special case that will show words once you slide it open.

“Yoru no Odoriko” is currently being used as the CM song for Mode Gakuen. The portion used in this CM is now available for download in Chaku-Uta and RBT forms.

Check out the jacket cover below!

300chf ain't shit to me
The style is different though. I'd say his work for Suzuki Ami is more similar to Capsule than Perfume.

yeah he is pretty excellent at switching up his style. almost all of the artists he produces for / has produced for have a really distinctive sound.

other acts he's worked with that i recommend:

meg
coltemonikha
kyary pamyu pamyu

wikipedia has a list of everything he's produced, with full albums also listed:

it sounds really similar to me, a few times I've wondered if some of the capsule songs weren't actually recycled for perfume songs since they sound super familiar..

i never heard of Suzuki Ami before, will check them out.

if you like recent capsule and perfume, definitely check out MEG too, she is more similar to those than the other two artists i mentioned.

capsule pre-2006 (basically pre-fruits clipper) sounds very different than their more recent stuff, and coltemonikha is in that same vein (sorta shibuya-kei).

and kyary is just, well, kyary. haha. most people either love her or totally hate her stuff :p
