He would rather have you, and your family, worshipping god from the hospital than following the horrible tradition of men:
"For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands [c]in a special way, holding the tradition of the elders. 4 When they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other things which they have received and hold, like the washing of cups, pitchers, copper vessels, and couches.

... that´s if he ever existed and knew about this stuff, but let´s be honest, this is what you would expect to see if the bible was authored by people with an extremely limited vision of the world, at least by todays standards..
