The clout and momentum of someone who's (reportedly) going to be the breakout star in a sure fire box office smash like Star Wars plus the window of age viability is likely way too much for them to pass up. Think about how much they must be freaking out about either having to find someone to live up to RDJ as Iron Man or write the character out of future movies. Reboots are a tough sell in a contiguous cinematic universe. They could nab a star like Elba now and keep him locked in for 2-3 movies with a pricey and convoluted contract, but Boyega is an incredibly attractive option for them to lock up a young, still-hungry actor into a long term deal before his asking price skyrockets from the new Star Wars trilogy.
