Black panthers are any big cats born with black fur, it's just a gene mutation thing in cats.

Lions and tigers with a black coat would most likely be considered the respective black sub categories not panthers...so I don't think that is correct.

Yes, it is not unusual for sports teams to appropriate names from animals and groups of people historically considered fierce or dangerous. I'm glad we agree on this.

I'm just not sure I'll be able to relate to him in a movie the same way I relate to cryogenically frozen super serum powered war hero Captain America or billionaire playboy Tony Stark.

I relate to Tony because I got swag and have a lot of sex. I relate to Captain America because I'm American. Black Panther? I mean I'm black but it's still a stretch.

Headlining a new Star Wars trilogy AND a Marvel movie? Does this guy have the best fucking agent or what?

(i am not john boyega's agent)

Man, where's "oops I dropped the Cosmic Cube" when you need it.

I know the one you are talking about, but I think that whole comic features the worst panels in comic book history.

See, it was even dropped earlier in the comic. Also you may notice that that Thanos is driving a helicopter. I was unsure of if he stole it or not, but then I noticed it said "THANOS" right on the side.

In case you are wondering, yes, Thanos does chase down that little boy until Mary Jane and Peter Parker yell at him. I am pretty sure that is the only appearance of that ghost horse in the background.

"Can the corn" LMAO.

Most likely a combo of stuff.

The void left from the fact that there's not really any new "young black stars" in that age group seeing how Will is getting old and the other black males are either flat out too old or just ... Kevin Heart?

Plus Marvel sees that they need to start future proofing their film characters after RDJ being all "I'm too old to keep doing this ...".

So it's a combo of needing someone that's not a heavy hitter star to keep the cost down AND seems to be on the rise AND is young AND looks like they can be African maybe (The only other young "on the rise" chocolate dude I can think of is playing The Human Torch ... and he aint really African levels of dark). That's a cluster of things that arnt super common right now.

Kinda like how the girl in the Anna remake coming out this winter is ... the only young chocolate girl I can think of that's been in a starring role in a movie in the last 10 years. Pretty damn easy to be the top on a list of no-names if you got something under your belt.

Every time I see this shit, I swear.

My sides. I can't even deal with it. It's just so stupid.

Maybe in 5 years when they make the movie he'll look old enough. Otherwise give it to Aldis Hodge.

Also, the animal the character draws on is actually called a black panther, 100% Marvel will not be changing the name.

Edit: The Hodge love in this thread makes me happy, been saying his name in Black Panther threads for years. Guy would be perfect. He's charming as hell, has the body for it, and I can easily buy him as the smartest guy in any room he happens to be in (something I can't say for any of the actors who have played Batman).

Attack the block is the best monster movie since Jurassic park 1

Also you guys already got your black panther movie

I believe it was called coming to America

I'm not familiar enough with the source material to tell whether or not Boyega is good choice, but I've enjoyed him in the few roles I've seen him in.

Who's the consensus guy fanboys have been clamoring for? There's always someone.

This must be one of the stupidest panels in comic book history.

Read more comics. That up there's not even a contender

EDIT:

I'm just not sure I'll be able to relate to him in a movie the same way I relate to cryogenically frozen super serum powered war hero Captain America or billionaire playboy Tony Stark.

I wish I could save this comment in a box of my life's treasures

I never knew about Wakanda or Black Panther before I played him as a started in Marvel Heroes. He's such a badass. I found a comic page online where an enemy comes to him and says " I trained all my life for this day, I will kill you "

and Black Panther says " for this, you already lost, as I trained all my life for the unknown "

T'Challa is the man.

I'd be stunned if he had the time to headline this movie and the Star Wars movies. Also, he seems a bit young for Black Panther doesn't he?
