John Kodera Taking Over Andrew House's Position at SIE

Godspeed, get some rest champ.

Hopefully Shu remains with us for a few more years.. the old guard letting the young guns take charge.

I love that on GAF executives are judged based on their E3 presenting skills.

House did really well at Sony. He basically saved ps3 as Europe pulled through when NA was struggling and then launched four new decices, three of which Id say were successful. Given that it's not mentioned where he's moving to, I'd say it means he's retiring.

How else should we know how much a person contribute to our hobby if he/she don't have a twitter account and tell us what he/she think or do everyday?
Especially since House doesn't do much video interview with gaming site, we don't have any idea what's Andrew House's effect on PlayStation.

I don’t know if it has ever been discussed, mentioned, or confirmed; but is Andrew House a homosexual? I heard is somewhere years back but never got any sort of confirmation.

Not that it matters one jot, just a bit of trivia really and if he is, I find it interesting that the CEOs of two of favourite companies (Apple & SIE) are both gay.

If Andrew House isn’t gay, then please disregard this entire post :p

As deputy president Kodera was probably always going to fill the role, but I find it interesting that PlayStation is how being headed up by a services specialist rather than a hardware person.

Awwwww man.

I may have only just joined the Nation™ this year, but I've always enjoyed seeing Andrew House on stage during E3s. Always seemed like a cool guy, really enjoyed listening to him speak.

Oh no :( I hope there were no intern problems or so. I liked him so much, very sympathetic person!

I wish the best for him!

End of an era. Best of luck to Mr. House, so well-spoken. Though, I wish he at least saw the 5 through to release. If Cerny is still the "person"
can't think of the term right now
then it should be okay.

I can't understand why Sony is doing such sudden global changes. They are changing the PSVR, the PlayStation Move Motion Controller, even the PS4 Pro and now even their CEO.

This was unexpected. Anyone with experience with things like this, that can read between the lines? Did he chose to leave?

I really hope this isnt the start of a GAAS focused Playstation, especially since not long ago Shawn Layden had talked about the companys commitment and focus on the importance of Single Player games.

What a resume! He done a number of good things over the years to grow the brand.

It indeed will be interesting how PSN will evolve now with Someone like John. Partly expecting a somewhat similar transition/emphasis on services like with MS and Satya Nadella.

House is a hero and he will leave with the PlayStation brand in great shape. Best of luck to him in his future endeavours.

Why though he did such a good job??? Leaving on a high?

Of course!

He is now the boss of PS that went from a failing 3rd place console that lost Sony billions of dollars, to now the best-selling console in virtually every region, globally outselling the competition 2 to 1. If that's not gonna make for a killer resume then I don't know what will.

Damn, House is gone. For everything he's done for the PlayStation brand, bringing in Kojima & talking Japanese like a boss (out of nowhere) has to be the highlight.

Aww man, I liked Andrew House. All of the "old" guard are moving on :(

There's always gonna be a cycle of the "old" guard. Kaz was the old guard before House. Adam Boyes popped up in 2013 and people were sad when he left three years later, but he was a relatively fresh face on that E3 stage. Jack Tretton was the usual face for Sony but eventually moved on.

Just something that happens. I know it's nice to get more personable faces interacting with fans, but many of the faces I've grown accustomed to were faces I didn't know much about just a few years ago.

Wow why is Sony losing all these huge members?

This stuff happens a lot; it didn't just start happening.

What does this mean? Bigger focus on PSN services? More GaaS games? Fewer SP games? What does this mean for hardware?

IIRC, Andrew House picked the final design of the PS4. I would imagine he had a big hand in getting Cerny to design it, and then letting him add 8GB of GDDR5 which turned it from a mediocre PC to something that could produce incredible looking games without sacrificing texture quality.

He also likely greenlit the Pro which IMO was a fantastic decision. $399 was also probably his call in the end. But then so was PS+ requirement for online play. Probably not fair to blame him for Amy henning and Stig's departures but Evolution Studios was most likely his call too.

Overall I liked him because he did not want to chase the kinect casuals and focused on building n impressive array of exclusives. While MS was busy cancelling games left and right, he went and got Kojima and had Insomniac make Spiderman. While Phil was forcing Black Tusk to cancel their new IP in favor of another soulless gears of war game, he went through with TLG, Horizon, Bloodborne, Days Gone and for some reason didnt cancel Dreams after 6 and a half years.

Not sure if its ok to give him credit for all those things but as the head of Sony's game division, the buck stops with him so he gets all the credit or the blame. That's fair i suppose.

I just hope this new guy continues Sony's latest tradition of making powerful yet affordable GAMES FOCUSED consoles. they havent acquired any new studios this gen despite making billions in profits which is something i hope this new guy does something about.
