Took way too long. The majority of people uninstalled this game months ago.

This should have been available in November.

They still have a massive playerbase; it was never going to stay up at the summer highs. Spring time is a perfect time to drop it.

Just going to drop this again for anyone thinking it's dead...

I'm still missing a lot from Gen I, but it looks like they will still be available? Not that Gen II will be picking them out, I assume.

Well, considering the phenomenon it was it's not too far-fetched to think most people deleted the game from their phones.

Unless the game takes up way too much space, I sometimes wonder why people just outright delete/uninstall games so quickly like that. I almost never hear people say "maybe I'll get back to it one day" and just leave it installed without touching it. I moreso hear "I wish I didn't uninstall it..."

several gigs of bloatware updates
several gigs of porn
no room for games

The game is like 200MB. It's not like it's taking up a shitload of space.

Besides, without proper tracking they could add hundreds of Pokémon and it still wouldn't be nearly as fun as it was with the 3 footprint method.

Until they own up to their mistake and add actual tracking back in the game color me uninterested.

And don't say the tracking that's in the game now is fine. It's not. Anyone who used the original method knows this way is a massive downgrade made only to force people into buying micro transactions.

How is the new tracking method pushing people towards microtransactions? I don't see anything in the store that indicates that this is the case.

I think the tracking is fine. It's a casual augmented reality app for taking walks. People need to realize this is not the Pokémon RPG you desire it to be.

I hard quit on this a few weeks ago after hatching ~20 eggs and none of them being Johto. This might draw me back in, but I really don't see myself going out of my way to catch anything again. I'm sure the app is doing fine, but this update should probably have dropped in December.

I'm still playing a bit but ever since they nerfed the ease at which you can spin a PokeStop, which just happened to be in the same update where they introduced dailies, the game has left me feeling a bit 'meh.'

I'm sure it's just a complete coincidence that those changes were in the same update.

As someone that carpools a lot, the speed thing for spinning really sucks. No, I'm not driving, yes I am clicking the stupid passenger button! I'm always frugle with what I catch now, since I can't get some stops anymore because "too fast".

I'm still determined, slowly but surely, to complete a living Dex.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Well, considering the phenomenon it was it's not too far-fetched to think most people deleted the game from their phones.

However, that doesn't mean that it doesn't still have a pretty darn big userbase

Not playing or using the app every day isnt the same a reinstalling the App. This isnt some kind of longterm contract you have to sign...people can jump in again whenever they feel like it.

I might have to reinstall the game on my iPhone since the weather is warming up and can take my dog for walks.

I really hope this game gets a nice overhaul for the summer. I could see this having quite a big surge in the summer. I've not actually seen anyone playing it out and about since last year but I won't be surprised if the local park fills up with people all hunting Pokemon again in the heat of the summer.

As I said, you had to have actually played the game before they nerfed it to really understand, but I'll try my best to explain. The majority of the world didn't even get to experience the real game that exploded the phenomenon as most locales just downloaded the gimped version based on the true game's hype. The game wasn't so popular because it's Pokémon, it was popular because it was fun, and if Niantic never removed that feature the phenomenon wouldn't have died so quickly.

The 3 footprint method was a hot and cold system that would guide you directly to a Pokémon's location based on the footprints disappearing as you got closer. Most of the time if you're walking you wouldn't get to them in time before they despawned, but if you're on a bike or skateboard it was seriously amazing. While everyone else is walking like a zombie staring at their phones, I would skate around and catch literally everything, and scream to the crowds "ODDISH, over HERE!" And they'd all run/skate over. I had over 80 Pokémon on the first day, growing my collection of candies ready to evolve the lot of them.

Niantic saw this and said "uhh, fuck no, no one is buying our stupid lures" and removed the entire system, effectively milking the players, and ruining what made the gameplay great. Basically, it would be like if Blizzard removed the exp bar in Overwatch and instead forced you to play Arcade mode or buy Loot Boxes. 200% capitalistic greed.

How it is now isn't fun. "Oh, go to this poke stop and there might be something there" isn't nearly the same is "oh shit, there's a Charizard IN MY IMMEDIATE VICINTY. I know it's 2 am and I'm in my PJs but I have to fucking RUN SOMEWHERE NOW."

Again, if you didn't play the game when it was in it's true form, you probably won't understand.

A breath of fresh air.

Though based on how this valentine's event was nothing but exeggcutes, I don't have much confidence that gen 2 will overhaul spawns, and I fully expect to mostly see sentrets, spinaraks, and ledybas added on to the usual fodder.

This valentine's event has been mostly Jigglypuffs and Lickitungs (sp?) here. Though lots of Exeggcutes as well and other pink Pokémons (even Chanseys), but mainly Jigglypuffs and Lickitungs. And they've upped the rarer Pokémon spawns in the past months, so I wouldn't worry about the new Pokémons being just the basic fodder.

It was a little hard to play this outside of the US back then :p

In any case, this

The 3 footprint method was a hot and cold system that would guide you directly to a Pokémon's location based on the footprints disappearing as you got closer.

Doesn't look as fun as you make it sound. But I agree, maybe I needed to play under this system to understand "how fun" it was.

Damn, all those mobile game experts coming out of the woods all of a sudden.

Here's some breaking news: Pokémon GO still makes loads of money and people can just re-download the game at no additional cost. Crazy.

It'll never get as big as it was. The damage is done. Though I'm not trying to say it isn't still successful, it was just surreal to see so many people playing before. It's a shame greed had to ruin that.

Also: where the fuck are the legendaries

I'm envious lol. I thought the event would be good to save up for the eventual blissey and porygon 2, especially since I have neither of their pre-evos, but I never even got to see a silhouette for them. Mostly saw exeggcutes, with some lickitungs and jigglypuffs sprinkled in.

Nothing can sustain the amount of hype Pokémon GO had during launch. It was the biggest App ever and nobody had expected this. I don't think you understand the scale we're talking about there. This was unprecedented.

I don't understand where "greed" goes into any of this. It was pretty obvious they were overwhelmed by the demand.

It could've been smoother and there are still very basic features not in the game, but "the damage is done"? Come on.

It's complete nonsense. The majority of people aren't dumb and don't play Pokemon Go while driving. Car accidents due to Pokemon Go wasn't a regular occurrence even during the "phenomenon" period of last summer so they certainly didn't make that change due to safety concerns.

My fiancee and I would always take turns dual wielding our cell phones depending on who was driving and had no issues catching PokeStops if we spun it fast enough. Now it's nearly impossible to do. And they just happened to add that nerf during the update where they added dailies? Please.

I've also heard from a few friends in Boston that it's made them play less because now they can't easily grab PokeStops while riding public transportation -- especially during the winter.

Son, I played this game on day one when it released on the Australian app store nearly a month before it's official launch in my country. So did tons of other people.
Please don't act all patronizing like you're the only one who played the original version, come the fuck on.

And yes, the early frenzy around the game was amazing, but the original footprint system was also a vague piece of trash that often just did not work properly.

And i've still not seen a single decent argument from you on why the removal of the footprints is this big incentive to push people towards the in-game store all of a sudden. The current system only makes catching specific Pokémon even easier, I feel, and active lures were fucking everywhere then and still are.

So no, the tracking could be better, but it's fine for what it is. Going back to the footprint system would be preferable if it worked perfectly, but i'm not fussed either way. I'd rather they figure some kind of radar-system using the gyro and compass.

That has nothing to do with greed or anything; that's the normal lifecycle of any mobile game, and it (based on reports from AppAnnie and from industry knowledge) did so better than almost any other mobile game. Of course it would never be as big as it was during the launch; that's simply nature of the market and yes, even with stronger retention than most other titles, it would indeed naturally not retain anywhere close to it's majority of players.

But to say that it took too long or it should have been there is absolutely ridiculous when it's done better than most of the top performing titles, while gathering a much, much broader audience and demographics that would actually make it's retention even better when compared to other titles.

Again, if you didn't play the game when it was in it's true form, you probably won't understand.

A few things:

1) If anything, I see way fewer lures now than I did when the original tracking system was in place, so if that was Niantic's strategy it was a dismal failure;

2) To make optimal use of the original tracker, you had to basically draw circles (mentally or literally) and perform some triangulation to figure out where a specific pokemon was, compared to the current system where you go "oh it's by that pokestop cool," which is a lot more accessible (especially to kids);

3) Everything you said about the rush of tracking and catching pokemon seems to be mostly because there were a whole bunch of people playing Pokemon Go at the time, and now there aren't. I didn't see anything in there that was specific to the tracking system except for the part where you got to play pied piper because you were triangulating and the crowds weren't.

I'm surprised this is taking so long to patch in.

I welcome the new Pokemon but PvP and trading have to be pretty close to the top of most wanted things in the game.

I too was hoping trading would come before Gen 2. As of now, only the privleged who can afford to travel accross the globe can legitimately catch em all (minus the legendary birds and Mewtwo ). Speaking of which, it has been almost a year, where are the events to capture Mewtwo and the legendary birds!?

But unless you saved your ID, all your old info would be deleted, correct? Or would tgat only be done if you delete your actual account?

It's all Google-based. Still have your gmail account? Then you still have your PGO data. Just redownload and sign in.

I have really dropped off in the past month or so, just getting bored and pretty sure this game basically killed my last phone so I'm paranoid my new phone will meet the same fate.

But... This will get me in again.

Ah that's right. I know some games require you to save your account number, and aren't always tied to an account.

Working in a restaurant I still see people playing this daily while they sit with a coffee or whatever.

The hordes of people at launch was obviously going to die off, but the game is still very healthy.
