Josh Duggar believes "external forces" were to blame for his sex abuse and adultery

Moral Majority, evangelicals, etc. have perverted Christianity in America. While I'm not personally religious I see the differences from what these folks preach and what the Bible actually says.

There's certainly no history of the oldest, largest, European-headquartered Christian denomination and sexual misconduct with children.

Go after Christianity or any other religion all you want, but let's not pretend that religious assholes abusing their power in horrendous ways is a specifically American problem.

Did not see that coming.

You would think molesting family members would be enough to kick him out of the family for good. GAF is willing to do it when a brother pees on the floor or doesn't pay back a few hundred bucks.

So weird. I can't understand this. And fuck TLC for giving this rapist a platform.

They refused to press charges so he was never arrested. With no willing victim, he can't be prosecuted. That's why people get away with rape and domestic violence so often because victims don't want to go through the horror of reliving their ordeal for everyone to see. Well one reason anyways.

Charges need to be pressed even when someone straight up admits to the molestation accusations?

GAF , please allow me, as a Christian myself to be the first to backhand this guy. You can get seconds of course, but please. Allow me.

Seriously. They're fucking monetizing a rapist and his victims. What the fuck.

I'm surprised TLC hasn't rebranded their network. In no way whatsoever does it still stand for "The Learning Channel"
We learned that you can be a child molester and not even be sorry about it, and you'll be forgiven with no repercussions because God.

Because you can't prosecute without a case and you cannot build a case without evidence, no willing victims or testimony means no evidence. I don't see how that's hard to process. It sucks but these people are fucking brainwashed.

"The source said Duggar would address those scandals, but he would not apologize."

Unbelievable.

So he's not sorry for sexually abusing his sisters? I wonder what kind of sick mental denial is flowing through this family on a daily basis for them to be even in the same room with that creep.

Fair enough. I was just pointing out the culture that led to this particular incident. I apologize.

Yup and she's supporting him, it's a women's place after all and not his fault.

Fundamentalist brainwashing at its finest. And that's the way women should behave according to the MRA's also.

Horrible shit.

The family is probably more pissed at the sisters than at their brother who sexually assaulted them.

I will just say that the line this guy is taking is NOT an orthodox Christian one. Under Orthodox Christian theology, no matter what external influences act upon a person (demonic, especially), the person is still completely responsible for their own behavior.

So, this guy is way off the deep end here. He's actually doing the exact opposite of Christian behavior -- as he is consciously resisting conforming his actions with the repeated line of Christ throughout the New Testament ("Repent, and you will be saved"). No repentance, no Christianity.

Sadly yes. The state needs a willing victim to press charges. They can move forward without the victim initially, but the accused has a right to face their accuser, which is what the victim usually doesn't want to do.

Yup, their womanly duty would have been to just allow it and forgive him and make sure never to accuse so people could find out.

It's a very cancerous mindset.

They used to be educational until they realized they made more money on a reality show about a father and son fighting (when not making motorcycles) instead of trying to teach us something.

Giving a rapist a platform is probably the logical conclusion but someone should sue them to change their name to the Piece of Shit Network to describe both the people who run and watch the network.

The devil.

This. In his eyes (and apparently the eyes of his family), he's the real victim, who was targeted by Satan himself. The girls are just minor collateral damage in a war waged against him by the devil. My roommate in college had similar beliefs. Literally, every negative experience or feeling, she attributed to the devil waging war on her. Feeling tired all day? It's not because you were up late studying, it's the devil attacking you. Didn't do well on a test? The devil is fogging up your brain, etc. There was no such thing as personal responsibility. Everything was evidence of how righteous she was, to draw the attention of Satan and merit such an attack.

It's ok, I came back into the thread to apologize because I think I overreacted.

The important thing in this thread is that we agree that this guy is a disgusting monster for molesting his sisters, and then somehow worse than that for seeming to want to blame it on the devil, or culture, or whatever. I mostly feel bad for the victims, as the family was quite eager to sweep this under the rug.

It's a lie, and he and every one of his adult family members know it.

Oh, there was some external force, alright, but you certainly weren't the victim of it.

How do people like this even exist? And then make money of their abhorrent actions? TLC is going to rake in the money from this shitfest of a spectacle and that'll trickle down to the abuser. What an awful mess.

True story. I once was engaged to this girl who was super religious and her folks were missionaries. She cheated on me and I said fuck this shit. Fast forward 7 months later and she writes me a letter saying sorry and that it wasnt her doing it was "the devil made me do it and I got caught in his trap"

BIGGEST LOAD OF SHIT EVER.

Hey, why take responsibility for you actions and learn from them when you can hide behind some ethereal force and absolve yourself of any wrong-doing?

If you believe hard enough, you can never actually fuck up.

Life must have been so much easier (for assholes) when you could blame all of your shitty behavior on the Devil.

Sorry honey, I impregnated my secretary and our daughters best friend, but hear me out. This isn't the plot of a porn movie, it was actually the devil that made me do it so let's pray the problem away and not focus on my shortcomings.

That's around half of a Tyler Perry movie plot right there.

Everyone who supported this person at the expense of his victims; his parents, legislators like Huckabee, TLC and all of his fans are some of the grossest people around. Not an ounce of human decency anywhere.

By external forces, he means his sisters of course. If they just weren't so damn tempting, nothing would have happened. Totally not his fault.

Well, I agree it's a lie, but who knows whether they believe it or not. My roommate certainly seemed to believe the things she said, to the point where she almost bragged about her shortcoming, because she truly thought they demonstrated how righteous she was (because the devil only torments the righteous and has no need for non-believers).

You know, I bet there's a bunch of porn clips out there titled "The Devil Made Me Do It." In fact, I think I'll go research that.

Its seriously kind of ridiculous how many TLC shows have ended because of criminal or unethical behavior. First honey boo boo, then this, and it looks like Dance moms is next.

That's rough. Your roommate must've been awfully important to warrant the devil's undivided attention. That line of thinking is not only disturbing, but hilariously theologically heretical, as it basically implies Satan (which people also fundamentally misrepresent conceptually) is omniscient and omnipresent, so on the same level as God.

The book of James also discusses someone following "his own evil desires", meaning full personal accountability for what happens when following those desires to sinful fruition.

It's amazing how many people claiming Christianity know nothing about it.
