Joss Whedon's Dollhouse-The Official Thread

I thought that episode was thoroughly excellent. The strongest episode is my opinion, even better than the (rightfully) hallowed #6. So many twists and lots of quality character development.

Even though Ivy was my first suspicion when it was first revealed there was a mole a while back, I'm glad it's not her. She makes Topher bearable.

Grr Argh indeed.

This show is so frustrating. Some parts of this episode were great:
November's message to Ballard
and
most of the stuff dealing with Dominic as the mole
.

Unfortunately other parts were cringeworthy:
Dushku's cheesy dominatrix outfit in the beginning
and
the entire awful subplot with Victor and Dewitt
. It also seemed like
Sierra's chase in the NSA building dragged on too long
.

I think Dollhouse would be better without the extra minutes via Fox's "Remote Free TV". The show would benefit from leaving some of the lame stuff on the cutting room floor.

Tonight's episode was fantastic. Great character development all over, loved seeing it from the various characters' perspectives.

Dominic's end
was freaking creepy. Hard to imagine something like that.

Aah, Victor's handler was Murphy in The Dresden Files. Must have missed an earlier episode with her in it.
I totally didn't believe you but imdb says she was in 1 episode of Dollhouse. I totally didn't recognize her...I like her a lot more with long hair.

This was her first episode. I only know her from the third season of Dexter.

Oh, and tonight's episode was fantastic.

I'm not sure Dominic as the NSA mole fits with what we've seen of the secret messages to Ballard, or at least with the intentions he was claiming.

I think the person sending stuff to Ballard is
Alpha.

I really liked most of the episode; November, Sierra and Dominic stuff was all really good. I didn't enjoy DeWitt's stuff though; came off very romance novel. But then again the twist there was kinda worth it.

All Asians look alike

Yeah that was...something...

I really enjoyed this episode. I just hate that I kinda know where stuff is goign because of the fucking spoiler that was in the April fools video Fox put out...

The next episode looks... solid. Light on the mythology, perhaps, but a great concept. And, hopefully, we'll get to see how the Dollhouse gets access to all these personality pieces.

Best episode so far. The ending was kinda
weird. Adelle gets shot and doesn't do anything? Yeah, cause getting shot doesn't really hurt, right :lol

That was really cool. It was nice to finally get some
info on what the attic is.

I also can't wait to see how Ballard's relationship with Mellie changes. He's going to need to act like nothing's wrong, but will he be able to?

It was only a graze...

Tis just a fleshwound.

Point is, she bore it as her punishment. It's not that it didn't hurt, it's that she wasn't going to allow herself to use it as a copout to walk away from what she had ordered.

So I'm wondering, was this part foreshadowing?
When Victor and Adelle were in bed and Victor says that he if he were to *make* the perfect woman, it would be her. And then he says he'd make copies... Setup for finding out that Adelle is a doll and there are maybe copies of her personality template running other Dollhouses?

Also,
Boyd's interrogation by Echo was tainted because she had the "trust" imprint for him. Could he be another NSA plant

Easily the best episode and that was mainly because something actually happened that seemed to effect the plot in a direct way. The obvious sign is that the show needs more stuff like that, that actually has an effect rather than tease, tease, tease.

I have a quick question.
Did anyone find it weird that Echo's imprint didn't really react when Dominic told her that she is a doll? He did this multiple times... maybe she was imprinted not to believe that she was a doll, but I found it a bit odd. I never really thought about how an imprinted active would respond if they were told they were a doll.

Oh, and also:

Meanwhile Dollhouse slipped a tenth. Dollhouse received a 1.4 rating among and 3.6 million viewers. This matches the show's March 27 season low in the adult demo, though it's not any kind of dramatic change (the show has been trading in the 1.4-1.6 range for the past few weeks).

How the hell does Ghost Whisperer pull the ratings that it does? 10.2 million on a Friday?

I'm sure there's at least 10.2 million dumb people out there.

Part of a report from someone who attended Joss's Harvard speech last night:

- He also addressed one of my biggest random questions about Dollhouse when an audience member asked whether we will be seeing actives with some of the less cool-sounding code words in the military alphabet, such as "Golf" or "Hotel." Whedon explained he had written an entire bit all about the active Golf, but it got cut, meaning we won't see Golf or Hotel on Dollhouse this season. Or, as he put it, we won't be seeing them on Dollhouse, period.

- Indeed, he was generally highly pessimistic about the show's prospects for a second season, all but acting as though the show had already been canceled (which, for the record, it hasn't yet, at least not officially). He didn't give any specific reason for his opinion, although one might guess lackluster ratings and bitter experience are contributing factors. This means he won't even be entertaining the notion of a Dollhouse musical episode, although he did say that, if he could hire Actives from the Dollhouse, they would be of the all-singing, all-dancing variety.

Quite possibly the worst news I've heard all day.

He shouldn't have worked with Fox again.

- Whedon explained that Dollhouse is not a feminist show, as to make it explicitly adhere to any set system of belief would make it didactic instead of dramatic. When an audience member asked whether he saw it as troublesome that all the actives were unfailingly young and gorgeous, he acknowledged this to an extent, mentioning that early drafts of the show had involved actives of all shapes and sizes to reflect the fact that people's fantasies don't always adhere to Hollywood's conception of attractiveness, and the beautifying of the Dollhouse was one of the realities of dealing with Fox. There had been an entire early subplot about an active named Tango who was an older woman, but sadly all of that had to go when the show's direction changed.

Ugh. C'mon Fox...

Definitely the strongest episode yet. I loved the the developments and was actually surprised throughout. Did not expect Mellie to reveal herself so quickly. Man, Ballard is going to be completely insane by the end of this season!:lol

The Dominic getting wiped scene was chilling. Didn't like the guy initially(nor were we supposed to) but he kinda grew on me. Ahh well, at least he can still come back in some shape or form. Also, really glad we got some real insight into what the Attic is.

All in all, solid episode that may just be my favourite one yet. If the show does get cancelled, it will be nice to see it go out positively recieved as it has been the last couple episodes.

Couple of things...

1. Did anybody catch the "meetcute.biz" on Fred's computer screen when Boyd walked in during Echo's examination? :lol

2. Great episode. Clearly, Dominic was not the *only* mole.

Intentional or not?

I didn't notice that, but I really did like "Do you have friends outside the Dollhouse?" Expanded a lot on her character.

Intentional. I couldn't remember her doctor name.

I just took that to mean that
Echo trusted Boyd because Boyd is her handler. Also, they emphasized the point when Echo was slow to accept her new handler, instead looking off in the distance at Boyd.

They've shown this type of stuff multiple times, and it must just be part of all the Dolls' conditioning that they completely ignore things like that. Think about it - they ignore their surroundings every time they come out of a new imprint, they never question their "treatment", etc. Their natural instinct is to ignore everything about how they themselves might be related to the dollhouse.

Another question: If a doll is sent to the attic, are they still released after 5 years?

The mythos is just starting to get really cool, it's a shame we'll never fully get to explore it. What are the chances that another network could pick it up, or maybe a cable station?
