With respect, you are fucking delusional. That said, I genuinely hope you enjoy the game when it's released.CowboyAstronaut said:If you honestly don't think that the game is any good, then you really were never anticipating it in the first place. This game is insanely good. Anyone trying to pass off what is present in that demo as a terrible game or a game that isn't worth giving a shot to is really trying too hard to hate the game. It feels better than many games we've gotten this gen and that's the honest to god truth.
Projectjustice said:I have to say, I really enjoyed the demo too. The graphics on the envirnoments are fantastic. The character models in cut scenes are ok but most of the game isnt played in those views. The music is great and im really liking the loot system. Im gonna get it to support Denis and hopefully with a sequel we can get 4 player co-op.
akachan ningen said:That is awful. Get a game because you really want it, not to support some dude who doesn't even need your money. If anything, NOT getting it will pressure them into making a good game next time.

MGrant said:Hmm. After playing this, I hope all of the people who assured me that this wasn't supposed to be "another Diablo clone" eat a nice portion of crow. Because that's exactly what this game feels like, only without the depth that Diablo has. And Diablo isn't even that deep.

I love to hate Too Human. I even tell people they must be suffering from delusions of grandeur if they actually enjoy it. Anyone that does, MUST have low taste in videogames or the genre. I have, can, and will always hate Too Human.
I've said my peace.
Beavertown said:WTF are you talking about? It could only dream of being a piss poor Diablo clone at best dude. Diablo and this game do not belong in the same sentence.. ever.
MGrant said:I think you misunderstand me. I love Diablo, I'm still playing Diablo 2. Tons of Too Human Defense Force folks were shooting down the idea that this game was trying to be Diablo, insisting that it's so much more. What do I see when I play the game? Heavy emphasis on loot, (mind-numbingly) simplistic combat, and skill trees. It doesn't hold a candle to Diablo, but it's undeniable that either Denis or the team making the game just threw their hands up at some point and said, "Fuck it! Make it like Diablo!"

Not Human Enough
Ironically, Denis Dyack - the head of Silicon Knights, creators of Too Human, and the man who went on record saying that games should not be shown or talked about until shortly before their release - has ruined Too Human for me by talking about it too much. And this is coming from a guy who was really rooting for the game. In fact, back at E3 2006 I named it the best 360 game on the show floor while everyone else was panning it. I enjoyed the combat, and thought the premise (what little of it I saw) was interesting.
Unfortunately, over the last year Dyack has put himself and his epic game out there so much that it has effected my anticipation and now my enjoyment of the freshly-released demo. How many times did I see or hear him on The 1up Show or 1up Yours or interviewed in magazines talking about the Norse mythology and how much research he did for the game? So much that while playing the demo, by the tenth time some character mentioned "Odin" or "Valhalla" I wanted to shut the damn thing off. We get it, Denis: Norse mythology.
And in every interview he beats us over the head with how well-read he is. "I've been reading this book or studying so-and-so or went to a lecture by what's-his-name." So can you blame me for rolling my eyes when the Too Human demo opened with a quote by Nietzsche? Oh Denis, you're so learned. Please enlighten us with your wisdom.
Again, I don't have it out for the guy and in fact respect him and his passion for his work. Furthermore, Eternal Darkness remains one of the most original and compelling games I have ever played. I've found his discussions with the 1up folks quite interesting, if a little overzealous. But he's done his game a great disservice, in my opinion, by getting into pissing matches with forums members and staunchly arguing the opinions of journalists who have played the game.
So what of the game, then, now that I've played the E3 demo and the new XBL demo? Frankly, it's fucking boring. Sure, there are interesting combat mechanics, and hints of Eternal Darkness are found at every corner. These are good things. But it's all drenched in an overhanded and frankly dull coating. The combat is ripped straight out of Diablo, with a twin-stick melee system that works pretty well, for the most part. Honestly, even after reading all the previews, I was surprised by how much of a dungeon-crawler this game is. But these spurts of action are interrupted by such thick, gooey bits of epic storyline that after listening to Dyack yammer on and on I can't help but picture him in his office listening to Der Ring des Nibelungen with a stack of Viking books and a highlighter pen. And it really pulled me out of the game.
The game does sound great, though, and I'll give SK props for putting out a great soundtrack. Unfortunately, the audio is extremely unbalanced as I'm unable to hear the dialog over the explosions and music. And let's not forget about that lawsuit with Epic Games. Frankly, the Unreal 3 engine (or is it? I forget) is doing this game no favors as it looks like nearly every other game based on that engine: overly-shiny with modified space marines running around everywhere in some sort of mystical world.
A couple years ago, David Jaffe, not known for subtlety, made a not-so-veiled comment towards Denis Dyack. I'm paraphrasing here, but he essentially developers need to shut up about how innovative their dual-stick combat is, how engrossing their game's mythology is, and how epic their trilogy is going to be and just make the fucking games. In retrospect, I couldn't agree more. After listening to Dyack blather on and on for nearly a decade now, I can't help but consider his credibility tainted after playing this demo. I can't help but wonder, "This is it? This is what you've been teasing since the PSone days? Seriously?" Sorry Denis, but I guess now that I've spent well over an hour with the game, I am firmly in the "against" column.

After spending a great deal of time with the demo, I have to wonder if the build available for download actually changed between this morning and the afternoon--the combat is relatively smooth, the rightstick control actually WORKS, as does the camera, which does a pretty admirable job of keeping up with the action. The animation is decent (except Baldur runs like his codpiece doesn't. quite. fit.), it has some hitches here and there, but people blasting it for being 'awful,' I honestly have to question what you are using as a basis for comparison. at its worst, the demo has some very 'average' moments.
Some of the character models could use some serious work, then again, so could some of the NPC models in Halo 3, so I'm able to look beyond that.Baldur looks great, as do some of the other major characters. The femal characters are nigh on hideous, however. Talk about too much makeup: Heimdall needs to tell his assistant that she's a secretary, not a whore. Otherwise, the environments are extremely well detailed, especially the great hall.
I got no significant framerate hitches during the opening cinematics, so I'm not understanding where some of the initial impressions (claiming it 'bogs down to a crawl?') were coming from (and frankly, I've seen far worse go by unnoticed in some other major titles of late).
The skill trees and item system look deep enough to keep me occupied for a long time, and I'm interested in giving more than one character class a whirl (berserker especially.)
Mr Dyack, to be quite honest you can keep your crusade to change society, but I'm impressed enough that I am going to be picking up Too Human.![]()

GhaleonEB really hit the nail on the head. Sorry man.
