Still wish Spielberg could have made an R rated movie the way the book was.
Are you s*itting me?!

Saw it today with a couple of friends and it looked and sounds amazing! I can't believe the visual effects still hold up to this day even after 20 years! There are movies that are only 3 years old that show their age. Truly a product of a labor of love situation.

I have never been a fan of this recent trend of 3D, but slap me silly, damn JP looked good in 3D. That is the way 3D should be done!

Took my little brother to see it! I was only 3 when it came out, and never had a chance to watch it in theaters (though I've seen it countless times since). Maybe in my top 5 movies of all time due to how goddamn entertaining and memorable it is.

Loved seeing my 12 year of bro who's amazingly never seen it (I always thought i had showed it to him as I have done with a lot of before-his-time movies and shows) react to everything. Can't count how many times he was jumping from his seat or covering his eyes in suspense. Amazingly the most suspenseful scene for him was where Tim is climbing down the fence while Ellie powers on everything made him freak the fuck out, jumping up and down.

Also enjoyed hearing/seeing audience reactions from people who were also JP-virgins.

Just a great movie experience, top to bottom.

How long is this supposed to be in available? I was trying to purchase tickets for this Friday here in Indianapolis, but no one has it listed anymore past Thursday. Closet is Navy Pier in Chicago for Friday lol

I'm so excited about this. Is there any movie I always hoped would really utilize 3D well, it was Jurassic Park. It have been so many years since I last saw it but I'm so ready to buy this on 3D Bluray and watch it on my HMZ-T1!

The 3d wasn't halfass, but it's quite jarring sometime when image quality jumped from scenes to scenes.

Oh gawd, the computer scenes in this film are even more cringeworthy than I remembered. Nedly using QuickTime file to do phone call, CD ROM!, Unix!

Box Office:

In fourth place, Jurassic Park 3D opened to an estimated $18.2 million from 2,771 locations. Among live-action 3D re-releases, that's between Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace ($22.5 million) and Titanic 3D ($15.5 million three-day start, $17.3 million opening weekend).

This solid start can be attributed to the ongoing popularity of Jurassic Park, which became one of the highest-grossing movies ever when it played in theaters in 1993 and went on to spawn two successful sequels (and a third that's on the way for next Summer). Universal also made the shrewd decision to tie the re-release in with the 20th anniversary of the movie's release, which made it seem more like a celebration and less like a cash-grab.

IMAX showings accounted for over $6 million—or around 32 percent—of the $18.2 million debut. That's the highest IMAX share ever for a nationwide release, and is a huge win for the large-format exhibitor.

Jurassic Park 3D's audience was 55 percent male and 54 percent were 25 years of age or older. There wasn't a CinemaScore reported, but anecdotally it appears the 3D is being well-received for the most part.

I was hoping JP3D would do closer to 20+million, but 18.2 isn't terrible.

Saw this in 3D Imax... Is was ok. I wonder if regular 3D looks better because it didn't blow me away. It also looked like they "painted" in/over certain foreground and background objects to make them pop. The pillars on the raptor pen when they were feeding them comes to mind. They looked too sharp and void of texture.

The best scene that absolutely worked was the T-Rex escape. The PoVs from within the cars really heightened the tension. But I felt underwhelmed in scenes that I thought would have looked unbelievable. The gallimimus herd looked flat, the raptors in the kitchen scene didn't have enough depth etc.

Also, there was some distracting crosstalk or whatever term you want to use to describe the double vision on up close objects.

Will still buy the Bluray for that enhanced brachiosaur skin and sound quality, though. Hopefully the 3D will be better at home.

The funny part about the film is how amazing the effects etc. stand up to 20 years yet the moment the computer scenes are shown boom movies dated lol. I will say this though Jurassic Park is one of those rare movies that belongs on a big screen with a loud sound system. Full nostalgia overload watching it again after 20 years
Watching this movie again made me realize that Laura Dern was my first movie crush :/

Welcome to the Club

This movie was still magical, I'm glad I finally got ton see it in theaters. Its one of those top tier blockbusters which only a few movies since have managed to reach that level.

I love how the T-Rex behavior is more that of a curious animal than some mindless killing machine (unlike jaws or the spinosaurs from jp3)

Yup. I really hope they go this route with the Dinosaurs in JP4.

Made the mistake of seeing it while sleep-deprived. The dialogue scenes lulled me to sleep (mainly because I've seen the movie so many times).

Random thoughts:
* For the most part, the 3D conversion works well and sometimes VERY well.
* The beams from Ellie and Muldoon's flashlights as they inspect the Trex attack site look fake, too opaque and added on in post production.
* Image quality seems noticeably improved over the bluray release.
* I did NOT see an improvement in the brachiosaurus textures in their first Dino sighting.
* I may have missed it, but I think they fixed the "hand on the raptor's tail" mistake as the raptor enters the kitchen.
* I also think they fixed the visible rod / cable that unfurls the Dilophosaur neck frill
* The 3D in the rain sequences is very good (and I imagine it was be a nightmare to do it)
* I was awake for most of the Dino sequences, with the exception of the one my wife said was the most impressive instance of 3D - when Lex almost falls through the ceiling tile and the raptor jumps up and snaps at her. She said this really made her jump because of how close the raptor seemed to come. I'm sorry I missed it. :(
* I do NOT enjoy 3D glasses. I hate hate hate them.

It impresses me how it wasn't posted :

Phil, this wasn’t fucking amateur hour. PEOPLE DIED BECAUSE OF YOUR LACK OF SUPERVISION. THERE WERE RAPTORS ALL UP IN THE KITCHEN PHIL. IN THE GOD DAMN KITCHEN.

This is really my one minor gripe with the film. The textures of the dino are pretty awful. Couldn't they have updated it a bit? It looks really bad sometime.

Yes, this part was AWESOME

Hrmmmm..... I really wonder if I should watch this. I was one of those kids that never got to see Jurrassic park in the theater and had to settle for seeing 2 and 3 much later..... perhaps because of that I don't have nearly the attachment to it that most other people my age do.

I just got off the phone with my brother. Apparently when this was released my pops took us both out of school early to go see it. Little pre-k me was apparently completely enraptured with the movie, but thought it was too loud. I had my hands over my ears the entire movie, and even afterwards.

I'm so glad my bro remembers that; I can't wait to see this again in theaters.

My wife and I went to see it on Friday. 3d was underwhelming, but may have been a combo of shitty theater equipment (the same theater didn't have the HFR 3d Hobbit) and 3d-glasses-over-2d-glasses.

More mind blowing was the family behind us who had apparently never seen Jurassic Park before.

Just saw it, 3D was underwhelming, but dat 3D Star Trek trailer.

Nice to see it on the big screen, the effects still hold up.

The 3D was actually pretty good. I saw it in theaters in 93, now my son watched it in theaters 20 years later. Damn, time flies.

Went to see it today...

I thought the movie held up incredibly well!

I thought the 3D was nice and subtle and not thrown in our faces.

I loved hearing the T-Rex roar on the big screen. Makes you realize how much better this movie is on the big screen with a kick ass sound system.

Saw it with my mum yesterday at Melbourne's IMAX. Still one of the best adventure films ever made.

3D was mostly pretty good. Still had that rough post production look from time to time, and I think I spotted some depth errors on the edges of objects once or twice. Rain looked really great, as did the scene where the Raptor jumps up to bite Lex' foot. Climbing the fence looked pretty good too.

The T-Rex break out scene is legitimately one of my favourite cinema scenes of all time, and I think it will be that way until I die. It looks so fucking good, and it's so well shot. Not a scene missing. The perfect climax to shit hitting the fan.

The cinema was packed, though I had to endure a mother with a crying/giggling baby (she eventually left), and a ton of people leaving to go to the toilet or whatever. Of all the times I've been to IMAX I've never, ever had people leave the cinema, not until now. Lots of kids too. The little girl with her mum next to me was shitting herself during Ellie's rebooting of the park's systems, just as the raptor breaks out.

God damn Laura Dern is/was a babe.

It was a fun watch on Saturday. I think the gentleman next to me had never seen it before, because he was literally jumping out of his seat. I didn't even have to get up to hit the head, either.

Makes me feel old seeing this again, but whatever. It was worth it.
