You do know the dinos in the original films were also genetically engineered too right lol? "Frog DNA"?
Indeed, and it is also mentioned in the film that they just use the frog DNA to plug the gaps from the sames taken from the amber, not go out of their way to make a new species.

My favorite was the people at the aquadrome taking pictures with their tablets.

Also, the amount of water that would be splashed by that thing would be far higher wouldn't it? It seemed giant yet a tiny splash.

common thing with CG is forgetting scale and what that does. Bay's Transformers excels at showing this particular problem (but that's pretty much a franchise thing), Godzilla thankfully didn't ignore it, with that semi-tsunami happening as it comes to land.

And of course the original JP casually ignored it, despite making it explicit with the paddock scene (which is word for word from the novel), to have to the T-rex show up at the end. If we take the movie's logic at face value, we should conclude that the T-Rex had been standing right next to the center the entire time.

Believe it or not, but filmmakers are actually getting better at dealing with scale properly.

I like the stego scene though. oh, and the raptors running seems to reference Muldoon's remarks about cheeta speed. We never actually did see them do that in the first two movies.

Not thrilled about the movie saving the hybrid plot from all the previous scripts though.

edit: and the obvious use of 'roar' (godzilla) in the trailer.

-Category 1: People who love the original and only the original
-Category 2: People who love the first two JP films
-Category 3: People who love all three JP films

Category 1 will hate this trailer
Category 2 will be cautiously optimistic about it
Category 3 will claim GOAT

What about
JP1 = Love
Lost World = Despise
JP3 = Enjoyed somewhat?

I get that angle, I understand it. But how it then doesn't work is the stupid lax security angle on the whole thing again. Fine, sure, make a super-dinosaur. But keep it somewhere with a fucking laser ceiling or some shit, with concrete over the top too as a secondary. Jurassic Park happened, where the electric fences failed and they chewed on through.

The follow up isn't "oh, well we built like some wooden wall high up and... oh it climbed it huh?" Thats just when an entire cinema audience is making "DUH-DOY?!" noises and getting frustrated. Even more with whatever system they have to stop a giant boat sized alligator in a specific body of water and not swim on out to fuck a tugboat in Jamaica or whatever for hijinx.

All this in a world where the military has had to step in multiple times to deal "with this dinosaur bullshit again".

Maybe you should actually see the film before deciding all this?

The idea of a hybrid dinosaur just seems monstrously stupid - in universe and in terms of story. Maybe the film will justify it but I'm not optimistic.

I haven't been following the movie so apologies if this is a silly question, but... is this a reboot? I'm assuming so, otherwise who in their right mind would finance another round of these terrible ideas (i.e. dinosaur park + genetically engineered monsters). Is this the case?

The park has been running fine for 10 years. Obviously they learned from their mistakes, as Hammond would say.

You're right. But in the case of the film, the reason for creating the hybrid has been explained in this thread. Whether you accept that reason or not...well, up to the individual I suppose.

Nah, it's a sequel, where the park was bought by a large corporations, and has been running smoothly for 10 years.

Exciting but also slightly underwhelming but the film isn't out until next June and I imagine most of the effects shots are still being worked on.

I hope they don't show the new Dino until the actual movie though.

They will try to do that, not doubt. But I bet a pic (probably of the a toy) will leak, just like it did with Godzilla in 1998 (they tried to hide the monster's appearance there too).

They only showed the male dinosaurs in the trailer

But in real life, males are the ones with extravagant feather designs.

Fuck this unscientific bullshit of a movie. It's not better than creationist trying to spread their stupid ass beliefs.

Not watching it even if it was free.

I was fully with it till the hybrid stuff.

The park opened at it was just as I thought!!!

Hybrid?!? Why do they need to add more punches to Dinos?!? Why?!

We all know it's gona be a T-Rex/Raptor

I will re-read the thread and hopefully it will click for me. Initial reaction is a resounding yuk but we will see..

Looks kinda terrible.

I guess I am an idiot; for all the hype I actually expected the film would at least have Jeff Goldblum or some of the other old JP folks.

I have been cautiously optimistic, but that left me completely uninterested. I'm obviously not writing it off, but my reaction isn't related to hype; it's just a bad, bad trailer.

For the complaints about genetically engineered dinos. Is not a major part of Jurassic Park, the novel, and the film too, that the dinosaurs are not really dinosaurs, but genetically engineered monsters roughly based on the dinosaurs' fragmented DNA? Grant makes this exact complaint. They were designed to look like dinosaurs but they aren't true dinosaurs, dinosaurs are extinct.

Taking it further to make original species is hardly farfetched.

But in their mind people go once see T-Rex, Raptors, etc.
Do you ever need to go again? Not really, there is no real dinosaur that you could add that would make the majority of people who have gone go
"Holy shit we have to go back".

Its not like Disney etc where you can go over and over and ride fun rides each time.
You are spending thousands for the spectacle of seeing real life dinosaurs and the two that most people care about have been done since day 1.

If that's the case then I don't think a made up dinosaur would attract them either.

Let's be honest, there is no way a trip to Jurassic World is affordable for most people. It's going to be a once in a lifetime for those that even get to go there.

You realize that Sea World and Disneyland are competitors, right? I bet that they will provide their rationale for their fake movie decision in the movie.

Of course I know that, what does that have to do with this? Disney squashes Sea World in attendance and Sea World is getting all kinds of flack for their animal shows.

Jurassic World is on a secluded island with no direct competitors worldwide. It has to be super expensive to go there. I'm sure they will justify the dino-hybrid by saying they need to bring in new attractions because attendance and/or profits are down. But to create such a dangerous one is an infinitely bad idea.

Believe I'm going to see the movie, but to act like this is an intelligent film is silly. It's a big loud fun movie about Dinosaurs wreaking havoc and eating people, also children in danger.

Ehhhh I'm not sold in the Pratt character. Some of those deliveries seemed off.

Felt that way to me too. I'm hoping it's more the editing of the trailer (cobbling together lines that aren't necessarily in proximity), than Pratt himself.

The CG looked pretty bad too. Looked way worse than JP1 somehow (probably because of broad daylight, but still, you'd think 20 years later that would be achievable).

Nevertheless, I'm still pretty hyped. I like the idea of one big bad dinosaur wreaking havoc and one guy essentially being tasked with taking it out. It's like the "clever girl" guy from JP1 getting his own movie.

Agree. I think this is a very natural escalation of that initial idea from JP1. Frankly, I'm surprised it took until the fourth movie for this to come to fruition.

It goes with the whole "theme park" theme.
You need new stuff every few years to draw people in even if you already have the best stuff in the world.

Universal Studios didn't stop with the Harry Potter addition (one of the most successful theme park attractions ever), they just recently expanded it, now there is some KingKong shit getting added as well as the Jurassic Park section supposedly getting huge additions.

This. I do understand concerns about sequelitis, but honestly from what I've read of the plot, this seems like the best way to deal with it--confront it head-on in the story.

Watch Jurassic Park again on Blu Ray and come back to me, my friend.

Raptors still look solid. Saw it on the big screen when it was re-released. That's partially due to how they're used, sparingly, and the selection of shots. The only time they don't really feel meshed into the environment are a few shots in the kitchen.

At the end of the day im just glad its a park again.
Lost World and 3 I felt lost alot of what made 1 interesting by being set in mostly jungles.

I had always hoped they would return to Nublar and show ruins of the original park.

Even Steven Spielberg couldn't make a good sequel to Jurassic Park. We'll see how this one turns out. BTW, I expect the dinosaur CGI to look better than it did in 1993. The trailer does not meet that expectation.

But to create such a dangerous one is an infinitely bad idea.

Kind of like putting plants around the island because they look "authentic" and failing to check if they were poisonous to the dinosaurs, or assuming the frog DNA would have no unforeseen effects on the dinosaurs (leading to them being able to breed), or relying on a contingency to deal with all the dinos if they were ever out of control that the dinos could easily solve themselves with their diet (leading to the lysine contingency not working)?

Bad ideas by Jurassic Park owners is sort of the franchise's bread and butter and they're addressed as bad ideas in the films.

Was the original park in the northern "restricted area"? Would be sooooo cool if they go back there...
