Just Cause 2 Demo Impressions - 360/PS3/PC

Drive-by shootings will never be as awesome as the fly-by shooting i just did on my parachute with a rocket launcher.

The AI is pretty funny too when it comes to car chases. This one crazy SOB chased me for a good 2 minutes before I drove off a massive cliff and he followed me down. I was in a car that got completely wrecked by the time I reached the bottom, but that bamf made it the whole way to the bottom without wrecking, on a motorcycle!

wow this game is tons of fun! i have never played a demo as much as i've played this one.

As with all of the demos I love that eventually turn into day 1 buys, I had to delete this one. I was just playing it too much, especially considering that it's only a tiny segment of the full island. I would be lying if I said I didn't have a huge urge to redownload it and skydive one more time, but I have other games to play, and Just Cause 2 will get its time soon enough.

This demo is pretty fun. Never played the first, so it reminds me of Saboteur and Mercenaries.

Gotta say, though... Bolo Santosi is the worst name I've ever heard.

I'm leaning toward this. It's so much fun but since beating the faction mission, but I want to have not played it for a little while before I start the real game... plus I have to unlock that goddamn defib on BC2 and I beat Bioshock 2 so I am doing decent work on my backlog, and can't keep getting distracted. :lol

Motorcycles seem way too stable.

I've hit many of them (sideways) while driving a car, and they always just move aside, without falling over or anything.

I laugh every time the demo starts cos of the way she says Bolo. Anyway a tip I found out whilst doing the time glitch and going outside the demo borders. If you find yourself stuck then order anything from the Black Market. The game'll realise your outside the demo area but it wont turn the demo off, it'll take you back to the Reapers hideout still with unlimited time

Played the demo for the first time last night and I must same the game is gorgeous. Best looking open world I've seen.

That said, I have almost exactly the recommended machine (2.6 c2d, o/c'd 4830 512mb, 3GB RAM) and it doesn't like running at 1680x1050. I'm using the recommended settings at that res, with model detail bumped up and vsync on, and man, it slows right down.

What do you guys think is the bottleneck here?

My bud and I were talking like her all last night.

"Rea-PERS!"

I have to mute the cutscene every time I play the demo, it's that bad. Hope the entire game isn't like that, though I'm sure it will be...

you should rent some Steven Segal movies.

I just read up about this game in Wiki. Found something interesting about Pandak Panay (antagonist I believe):

Pandak in my language (Filipino) means Short. Panay is a location somewhere in Visayas (one of the 3 major regions of the Philippines).

I used the hacked DS3 drivers on my PC last night to play the game with a controller. (the hacked drivers turn the DS3 for all intents and purposes into an emulated 360 controller). The game is a lot more playable on PC with a controller.

Now to decide if I want to buy the game on Steam for $44 USD or for the 360 for $69 CAD.
I'm pretty strapped for cash the next while so saving some moneyies may be nice.

Are you using MotionInJoy?

If you're on PC, pretty sure the mod removes it along with the time limit :lol

Oh Christ, I was using the old version of the mod that just upped the timer and removed the boundaries. Why did you have to inform me of this new one, Now I will have less to play BC2 and everyone will rape me with their unlocks:lol .

The writing for this game is some the most laughably bad stuff I've heard.
Favorite examples:
Bolo Santiosi: You've got him! Now bring him here. How my heart is beating!

Scorpio (after hearing Bolo say there will be backup):I like what you say, and I like how you say it lady.

That said, every time I play it I'm tempted to pre-order it even though I should be saving money.

Tether one to a helicopter and fly it up.

Always thinking outside the box :D

Yeah, I think I'm just gonna uninstall it and preorder when my GOW3 $10 comes in. BC2 is a ton of fun and I'm only like rank 4 :lol

Do you know if this works for Ps3???
Yep.

I'm so tempted to load up the demo whenever I see a new video, but I don't wanna burn myself out on it. Just Cause 2 is going to be hilariously easy at first because of how much I've played the demo. I don't know if that's a good thing or bad thing :lol.

Hell yeah!!!! thanks alot... :D

If you suffer from OCD, how long would you think you'll be playing this game?
I'd almost think we won't have time to mess around.

Will the grappling hook be upgradable in the full game? Already I can see myself wanting to increase the length of it as well as tethering more than two objects together at once.

According to one of their podcasts, no. But apparently we will be able to upgrade other things that "affect the grappling hook". Whether that refers to weapons or something else, I don't know.

I did read somewhere that the hook is easier to snap in the demo than in the full version -- not sure if there's any truth to that, though.

I'm trying to install this demo by Steam but whenever I click 'Install Demo' nothing happens. Anyone know how to fix it?
I had the same problem. I ended up just going through the Steam website and it worked.

the lady said something kinda freaky, I forgot what it was, but it turned me on....it was in the mission to get the key from one of the guards.

u do hear tagalog in the game.

try hopping on top on one those tricycle until u hear one.

hearing the guy swear in tagalog. :lol

For a game that tries so hard to be stuntatisc and plain ol' fun, the driving is really awful. Most cars drive like a drunk mule, explode after average falls and even the slightest collision will slow them to a crawl. If a developer choses to disregard physics in order to make the game funner, go all the way please.

Oh well, I still enjoyed it... just not enough to buy it.

Huh? You say that like its a bad thing. :lol
I really like how the cars and bikes handle. While shitty cars handle pretty terribly, nicer cars handle much better. This seems to me like the way it should be.

You should also remember that they've said that terrain effects how cars handle in this game. Desert and snow will handle like crap, but I'm guessing the city and jungle areas are better.

Bolo Santosi is like Crackdown's Disembodied Voice, with the awesomeness replaced with hilarity. Instead of "That was an impressive ascent, Agent" you get "This is BO-lo San-TOES-ZEEEEEE, we are exPANding our opeRAYtions".

Has anyone heard her humming Ride of the Valkyries? It was either her or Rico, but I'm guessing her. I was raining destruction on the army base from my chopper and all of a sudden this humming started :lol

I've racked up about 6 hours on the demo and this is just... untrue.

Cars will always explode if you bail out when they hit something to create a more cinematic experience, but while you're driving them they're pretty sturdy in terms of performance.

Even the faster cars take a nice beating before their performance noticeably decreases.

And I'm loving all these Anatomy of a Stunt videos. "Curiously placed ramp" :lol It's a game that's so blatantly designed for pure unconstrained fun that it's just awesome.
