Just Cause 2 Demo Impressions - 360/PS3/PC

Any other good just cause 2 videos?? I loving the stuff I've seen in the thread so far.:lol

Here's all of the Anatomy of a Stunt trailers so far, I think. The related videos has some more sweet stuff.

Vehicle Upgrade Trailer
Midair Sabotage Trailer
Fuel Tanks Trailer
Gravity Trailer
Firetruck / Jet Chicken Trailer

I just did some altitude tests on the Demo. It seems that the highest possible altitude is 5 Kilometres (16400 feet) from sea-level.

A free-fall at this height will take you almost exactly 3 minutes to hit the ground, if you don't push forward so he goes into a dive. If you do dive all the way down it takes about 1:35 to hit the ground, so it looks like you go twice as fast when you dive than if you just stay in a level position in the air.

Also, I've only just realised the birds eye view map is in 3D! Not only is the terrain in 3D but the player position cursor is in 3D relative to the map. When I was at about 5km and checked the map, the cursor was pixelated and close to the screen.

Mind blown by the HUUUGE snowy mountains in the top right of the map. I didn't realise before that they where so tall until I saw the 3D map. This game keeps getting better and better.

Holy shit.
I grappled one dude and while he was struggled I grappled another. Next thing I know they both fly into the air and crash into each other, killing them both. Then I found a tank and paratroopers just started rolling in. I was shooting them out of the air like Duck Hunt.

This is already my favorite game ever.

Game Informer Review - 9

* Story weakest link.
* Virtually everything improved over the first.
* Even the most formulaic side missions are fun.
* No penalty for dying outside of missions and checkpoints are generous.
* Can call in a helicopter for extraction to cutdown on travel time.
* Attention to detail is unparalleled and makes open-world games that solely focus on urban environments feel downright mundane.
* 368 locations to discover and explore.
* Until you upgrade your weapons or get your hands on some heavy-duty firepower, the gunplay feels underwhelming.
* Difficulty later in the game borders on being frustrating.
* No multiplayer a disappointment.
* None of the issues diminish the countless memorable moments Just Cause 2 provides, born out of the spontaneous chaos the player creates while simply exploring the world.

* Even the most formulaic side missions are fun.
Hell yeah. At this point, that was my only remaining concern about the game. IIRC, the press was pretty hard on the first game (and with good reason), so seeing these positive reviews is really encouraging.

Don't care for reviews much myself, but hopefully, critics love this game as much as we do and the sales reflect that. Really want to see a JC3 with 4 player co-op (and/or Deathmatch, but aiming would have to become much more precise.).

i wish you could use two or three grapple hooks at once. im guessing it's too much for the physics to handle but the insanity would be fantastic.

This is what I want. Hanging from my own helicopter, I want to string two enemy copters together and watch them collide and rain fire.. great explosions in this game, btw

So I was not really impressed with the demo, but I only spent like 30 min with it.

I am re downloading it now, but I really can't believe all the hype this game is getting in this thread.

I'll spend more time in the demo and put my grudges aside, but one thing's for sure - the controls need to be polished up more in the final version for me to even consider getting this.

I could care less about the story and crappy VA since that's obviously not the main point of this game, but it's all the open useless space that concerns me. I just got bored with the demo and the clunky controls, but I'll give it another shot just due to the GAF hype.

Can you imagine multiplayer in this type of world?!?! Also, someone had a great idea that is hopefully implemented later on in this game: upgrades to your grapple hook. Imagine being able to shoot the grapple from the ground all the way up to the summit of a mountain!

I thought I heard that there were upgrades for the grappling hook in the full game.

Hey, X360 magazine gave it a very positive 80. I really expect only a marginal critical success from this one, since so much of it seems to be based on making your own fun. But damn if that's not my favorite kind of game :D

What version are you playing? The PC version is begging to be played with a gamepad, but I find the controls... well, great. Once you get used to them you can pretty much do anything you want.

If you don't like it, you don't like it, but surely you can see where the appeal is?

I've never had so much fun driving cars off of cliffs. :lol This game is completely insane. I haven't had this much fun with a demo in a long time, and since people came up with workarounds to stop the demo from ending, it seems like many of others feel the same.

How was the original Just Cause, btw? I played the demo before it's release, but it just fell off my radar. Would it be worth trying it out the full game?

The original was alright but highly flawed even in 2006. I imagine it's got worse since. By all accounts this is vastly superior, so I wouldn't see the point in going back.

New to me! By the way, I downloaded this on the 360 and it is a much better version to play over the PC, mainly because of the controller. Any word on PC controller support?

Full 360 controller support, including on-screen button prompts. I don't know about other gamepads, though. After seeing the glorious PC graffix I couldn't betray the Master Race on this one.

Has perfect 360 controller support. So much so that I do everything with the pad until I need to shoot stuff in a chopper where I use my mouse since it aims much faster, then put my hand back on the pad and continue flying. All works flawlessly.

Antonio Banderas Simulator 2 is gonna make this month hurt my wallet even more.

I kind wish the PC version didn't even exist so I couldn't want it. I can't settle for a xbox rental after playing that demo with that sexy CUDA water. Fuck.

Indeed, as far as I'm concerned this game is setting the bar for future open-world games in terms of graphics.
They used some nice cheats to keep it looking nice, I think. Like when you go underwater, there is a distinct transition between underwater and above water, like they are using completely different assets.
I am surprised they didn't include more area with water in the demo as it looks fantastic.

It is indeed quite beautiful, though the pop-in of buildings and especially roads can be a bit distracting. It is understandable in a world of this size, but it would be nice if they had some super low-detail assets for far off roads and buildings. I think just a fade-in for buildings coming into view would work better then what they have now, with them just instantly 'popping' up.

But enough of my nitpicking, this game looks and plays great, it's too bad it has to be coming out right after I get back from break!

edit: Also I think it needs to be said that nighttime gameplay in Just Cause 2 is awesome. They got the lighting levels right without being too dark or too bright (Far Cry 2 night ick), there are lights from every settlement on the islands, and the lighting from explosions and fire cutting through the dark looks amazing.

I still dont understand how night and day works. In the demo, I usually only get daytime, wtf

Just leave the game running in the opening area for half an hour or so, where the 30 minute countdown doesn't start. If you start the countdown right away, the demo will be over before night hits.

Also, to all the people asking about whether the original Just Cause is worth it, I'd recommend picking up the Just Cause demo off of Live, it should give you a pretty good idea of whether or not you can handle the aging gameplay.

I initially thought this too but found once you had a controller plugged in the PC version was a lot better. If you have a decent enough rig the PC version will walk circles around the console versions in all aspects (pop in, general graphics, performance, resolutions, etc).

If the game had multiplayer I would probably have bought the 360 version but since it doesn't I'm thinking I'll buy the PC version and just use my DS3 and USB for now. Saves me around 23$ as well what with the Steam deal.

The only thing I miss about the original is parasailing behind cars/boats. Is there any way to do that in this game, or does the grapple automatically pull you to the vehicle? I guess it's a little less useful in this game since you can slingshot-parachute yourself on any terrain, but it was always fun to just attach yourself behind a car and coast.

Also, GoGamer has the PC version for about $40 after shipping right now. Not quite as good as the Amazon deal, but better than the Steam price for those who don't want to go the Amazon route.

Going by the demo, I'm going to have just as much fun (if not more) just screwing around in the world. That hasn't happened to me in this type of game since GTA3 and Vice City.

Got stuck in a bug last night too. Tried to grapple from one helicopter to another (in hopes of stealing it).
1) wouldn't let me take over the helicopter for some reason
2) when I released I floated falling in mid-air endlessly as the helicopter circled around my flying body endlessly trying to kill me.

Seemed like I was invincible and immovable. Funny but annoying because I had to quit to the main menu in order to fix it.

Maybe thats a upgrade in the full game?

I just downloaded the demo from Steam. Man I am getting some really shitty frame rates. With everything on the lowest settings I can get 40FPS. When I mix and match settings I get about 20-30FPS. Game is fun though.

It would be wonderful for Just Cause 2 to have some modding support on the PC but I guess that'd be wishful thinking - it's a shame all those open world games are, ironically, among the most closed off games when it comes to modding..just look at GTA 4 or Far Cry 2.
