Just Cause 2 Demo Impressions - 360/PS3/PC

Dynoro said:
Good point - hope they confirm before release though

Apparently over a dozen JC2 DLC items were added to the registry a while ago, sure I remember LovingSteam saying that. If there's DLC it'll be available for the PC release as well, since its a Steamworks title releasing DLC for the PC release is no more difficult than it is on consoles and if they're creating it for the consoles already its free money.

Edit: Heck, the limited edition in the UK comes with free DLC, so there you go, that's basically confirmation for DLC for the PC release.

So, having never played Just Cause before and trying out this demo and loving it, is there any point to me getting the first game while I wait for the second to drop in price?

No. This game is infinitely superior, at least based on the demo.

I'm going to leave this here:

I have the .png if you want to make some changes to it.

Dude that is an awesome banner. Just the right amount of awesomeness to represent the game.

Just watching it gave me a bit of vertigo. [/quote]
That is indeed, pretty cool, but I'm starting to wonder how hard these stunts will be to replicate in the game.

These videos are clearly edited (not just the camera angles) so we don't know if they're cheating.

That looks really good!

Just had an idea. Why don't we create a Youtube account strictly for GAF members who want to upload videos of their experience in JC2? I realize that PS3 offers it directly and the PC has fraps but just an idea.

FYI: For PC users bummed about not having the rolling replay save ability that PS3 users will have

I would recommend you sign up (free) and start using XFire. It has a video/broadcast engine built in that will allow you to use a feature called Flashback. It will essentially do the same thing and buffer an amount of time within your memory of what's happening in game and you can press your hotkey whenever you like to immediately capture the action.

These videos store locally on your system obviously, but can be compressed and uploaded to xfire (or any other site like youtube) using xfire's interface.

More info: http://wiki.xfire.com/wiki/index.php/Help:Video_capture_options

While you're at it, send me a friend request on there, username Artadius. I personally LOVE xfire as it's an in game overlayed chat client just like Steam. I like it a bit more though because it has a wider support of games out there and can also integrate to your AIM/MSN/ICQ accounts.

Total noob question, how do you access the black market?

The controls really clicked with me last night and everything came together.

Just Cause 2 Demo Nets 2 Million Downloads

Since its launch on March 4th, the Just Cause 2 playable demo has taken the internet by storm, receiving well over 2 million downloads. In that time, players have driven a distance equivalent to a trip from the earth to the moon and back four times; Panau Island has lost almost 30 million of its population (with approximately 2.5 million headshots, almost a million drivers hurled from hijacked vehicles and 27,000 Piñata kills); and players have BASE jumped the equivalent of a freefall through the Earth's core, pole-to-pole, twice.

HOLY SHIT! :lol

I can't believe they were logging our stats! If they launch something similar to the Rockstar Social Club, that will be so great.

Great news. I hope the game is successful for Avalanche.

I really like the demo. I love a good sandbox game and this seem to fit my needs. My favorite thing to do (so far) is to take a Heli to maximum altitude, bail out and then try to get back in it and back in control before I hit the ground. So fun.
My only concern is that the actual missions and story will suck. Also, the voice acting is just terrible, BOLO might be the worst I've ever heard.

Sheesh, shut up. You mean the most amazing, yeah? My grandchildren will be quoting that shit all day.

WOAAAAAAh, SCOPPIO

Game is fun as hell, can't wait for the full release. I just hope people buy it, they did a great job considering how much of a mess the first game was.

DAH REAPAHS.

What tactics do you use to get back into the chopper? I tried this a few times and as I was falling I was able to get the aiming cursor on the chopper and get the icon for the grapple to appear, but it was red and when I shot the grapple it just hit the chopper and immediately disconnected.

that mission with the towers seemed pretty damn cool, I totally forgot the game has missions and stuff, everytime I load up the demo im just going out causing havoc and exploring :lol

don't you mean causing....chaos

I don't really have any specific tactics, I just get as close as I can and try to connect without it hitting the propellers. I've only pulled it off a couple times, the first time I got into the Heli but it was spinning out of controller so I ended up crashing into the dirt.

Even if you land the heli and try and take off it is still out of control. Hopefully they fixed it in the final game.
Edit: thats some impressive support if they fixed it in the actual demo.

Just Cause 2 was just updated on Steam:

Just Cause 2 PC Demo Updated
Mar 19, 2010 at 9:16 AM - Andrew Burnes - 0 Comments

Can't really remember the last time a PC demo was updated with useful changes, let alone ones that weren't addressing game or system crashes:

Changes in the demo patch include:

  • Added benchmark (available from the main menu)
  • Localization fixes.
  • New MSAA options added.
  • Problem with CUDA water while using SLI configurations fixed.
  • SSAO intensity tweaked.
  • Bokeh option not shown when it isn't supported.
  • Helicopter controls functional when re-entering a spinning helicopter in mid-air.
  • Improved default video card selection in multi-GPU systems.

Added comandline options:

  • Improved default video card selection in multi-GPU systems (override with command line option /dxadapter=)
  • Framerate cap command line option (/frameratecap=, default: disabled)
  • SwapChain buffer count command line option (/dxbuffers=, default: 1)
  • FOV factor command line option (/fovfactor=, typical values 1.0 - 2.0)

Load up Steam to snag the auto-update.

Yay, you can (partly) thank me for the option of the framerate cap, asked the engine lead over at B3D if he could implement it and he duly obliged! :D

Lots of multiplatform devs need to take note, this is how you claim to still be supporting / pro-PC and actually back that up with what you do.

Gearbox should take note. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Borderlands, but the PC 'support', especially since it was supposedly the lead platform, was pretty abysmal.

Oh, there's a bunch of other commandline options you can play about with as well, just simply right click on the link in Steam and enter these under "Set Launch options" seperated by a single space:

I highly recommend disabling the film grain, as well as trying out the other AO implementation

I'd like to see some comparisons of the FOV changes. I thought it was fine in the demo but it wouldn't hurt to have a bit larger.

Certainly nice to have the option, either way, especially for anyone with an Eyefinity setup.

yeah, I'm reading the thread on B3D and I'll disable film grain and edge fade in the final game. I'm trying not to play the demo that much since the game is out next week. I think I already put five hours into the demo :lol

well i feel a lot less bad about buying the steam version vs the 360 version now, even though the 360 version here is cheaper.
It may be fun pissing around with those options.
