Kay Plays |OT|

Okay then. Weird, maybe when I get around to it I'll check for myself but even Kay did not notice the usually obvious pop-up messages you get from DLC telling you where you can access the new stuff like most games usually do.

In a compromise that feels kinda right for Dark Souls, that information is
semi-cryptically attached to the item descriptions of items that you automatically have in your inventory after buying each DLC.

No insane scavenger hunts like in Dark, though, just following the description and being a little bit observant. :D

Surprised no one has suggested King's Field! Especially the second and fourth games. Very similar to Dark Souls, but also quite different.

I'd love to see Planescape Torment but I dont know if she can deal with an old school iso rpg. It can turn off a lot of people.
I think she would love the lore, dialogues, hidden details, etc... but at the same time I doubt it's the kind of game that would work well for a streaming/let's play.
You spend way too much time reading text and picking dialogue options to make it look good in a video format.

Eh, not a big fan and like for Torment I don't think they would make for a particular good streaming.

Someone in the past weeks (before Antichamber) suggested XCOM. I think that would be enjoyable to watch.

If she is discussing what is being said to herself like she does in Dark Souls, I dont think it would be a problem. For me at least.

Is all the DLC out, and if so, when does the GotY edition come out so I can play it?

DLC is all out (unless the rumor of a second season turns out to be true).
There will probably be a GOTY edition, again, assuming the above rumor isn't true, otherwise they might want to wait for those to come out.

New mic is creepy, i can hear her breathing down my neck.

Very glad she's back to the Souls series though, the DLC are the best content DkS2 has to offer (Bosses notwithstanding) so it would've been a shame if she skipped them.

Episode 6 is up, the twists and turns of the first DLC are perfect for her. :D

Even the enemies need some detective work and figuring out how to best defeat them. Too bad inspiration didn't struck her this time.
"I wonder what will happen if I hit this" should be the default mode of investigation in Souls games, and that goes doubly for RED, OMINOUSLY GLOWING BODIES. :p

I was afraid about hitting them (or even getting close) to them too.
Curses and such being a thing in the game.

Also, her attempt to sneak past the sleeping dragon was great, i wish it would've worked. :P

So she got to the bosses of Sunken King.

She seemed to really enjoy the Elana battle. I agree with her on that. The criticism that fight got soon after the release of the DLC was very unfair. Just because Elana is a tall woman, just like Nashandra, it doesn't mean she is a re-skin, like many people were saying back then. Her moves are very different, much more focused on range attacks Similarly, Sinh is not a re-skin just because he is a dragon. That fight plays significantly differently than Kalameet and Ancient Dragon.

Anyway, she had a lot of trouble with the drakeblood knights, just like I had. Those guys are assholes. It's good to see her updating her channel regularly again.

She has proven - in donning full Havel's and still regularly taking hits that do 33-50% dmg - that armour does literally next to nothing in this game.

Great episodes so far in the DLC! Really cool that she decided to go back and do them. :D Greatly enjoying her exploration of the DLC and looking forward to when she finds the other areas.

It is kinda crazy that she has played through DS2 one and a half times right now and still didn't realise that fully depleting the stamina bar is the thing that prevents her from immediately sprinting again (though it might be tough to notice in the heat of battle). She also seemed to forgot about equipment load impacting jump height/distance (dismissing two jumps as undoable she could've easily made without Havel's).

But overall, she's doing a superb job again.

Gahh, so conflicted. I love Kay's videos, especially the Souls ones, but I haven't got a chance to play any of the Dark Souls 2 DLC's yet. I want to watch but I also want to not be spoiled.

Once school is over for the semester, I'm gonna marathon DS2 so hard until I beat it, so I can watch these again. Then I suppose when Bloodborne comes out I'll have the same issue, lol.

It's the DLC in NG+. From what I heard the DLC in particular gets way more difficult the higher you go.

Armor in general, sure (it's why i only dress for fashion souls, really) but Havel's is pretty OP.
Look at her fight with the Gargoyles in Belfry Luna for proof of that.

Anyhow, i'm glad to see she found the DLC fun, i think they're better than the base game.

Btw Kay, i'm glad you got to see the Velstadt summon in that boss fight.
I kind of ruined it for myself, since i left the skellys around for the whole fight, while i destroyed the Squalid Queen very quickly.
That was probably my gaming habit of "don't waste your time with the mob, when the big boss is around" kicking in.

Good ep.
I liked that she got rid of Havel's by the and that she understood that, when Sinh is on the ground breathing fire in front of him, you're not supposed to run away... it's Pinata time!

Also, since when does Poison Moss cures Toxic? Toxic was a death sentence when i did Sinh, weird.

-
Sinh's music is pretty badass, too.
For me it's on par with Ornstein and Smough's.

It's been a month or two since I played DS2, but I can't think of another item that cured toxic, afaik it was always just poison moss.

My point is it simply wasn't curable, you had to avoid it or chug estus/life gems through it.

There are a bunch of internet discussions around this assumption, too.
So it was either a common misconception that spread out, or they patched it to be cured with poison moss.

I mean it's the whole reason why people hated Royal Rat Authority, because once the minions intoxicated you,the fight was over.
If it was curable that easily people wouldn't have been so annoyed by it.

Toxic in Dark Souls II was always cured by the same means as Poison.

I think people found cracking Life Gems easier than having Poison Moss on the hot bar.

Man, that pain in the ass dragon fight was nuts!

Don't think I've ever heard Kay curse that much (well, cursing by Kay standards, i.e. 'damn' and 'ass' :p) in a single fight before.

Loved when she started shit-talking the dragon, lol!
'Tough-Talk Kay' needs to make another appearance down the road. ;)

New Ep. up, where Kay takes on the Gank squad.

It is a better use of the slot. It serves as regular healing, and anti poison, so you don't have to worry about switching equipment.

There's 10 item slots, how many are you using? I got overwhelmed and flustered in the heat of the moment in DS1 if I had a full item bar of 5 items, I don't know how people juggle 10!

This is where I'm in the same boat as Kay with regards to the 3 weapon slots, as nice as that is, for the same reasons I only keep two in each hand, it all gets very confusing especially with DS2 not having the queuing of actions like DS1 does.

I usually never keep more than 4 or 5 items on, for that reason.

Estus, Gems, a Buff for the weapon and depending on the area, poison cure.
I know the game well enough know, that i rarely get poisoned, though, so i usually just roll with simply Estus and gems out of habit.

I recently started keeping repair powder though, since they patched some shit and my swords break like paper. (against one of the bosses i won't mention, because it's from the DLC, i had to use FIVE fucking repair powders just to get them down).
Was using a Katana admittedly, but it's not like the Espada Ropera (my previous main weapon) was much more durable.

Durability is worse now? That means I'm never playing Dark Souls II again.
lol.

Kay's run through the Sunken City DLC has made me want to go back actually. Watching I realise this is probably my favourite of the 3 in terms of level design. I didn't finish the second two DLCs I was just burnt out on DS2 and didn't enjoy any of it, but I think part of that was just the burn out and the character I had at the time of buying them was pure STR, which is about as far away from my usual playstyles as possible. I just got so sick of smashing everything with the Demon's Great Hammer, I didn't want to see any of those areas ever again. I need to give them a fair crack with a playstyle I'm more comfortable with.

Why does kay insist on parrying every single enemy in the game

'cause she's good at it.
Also it's a pretty effective way to deal with a lot of enemies, even if in DkS2 parrying is nerfed and much more of a pain in the ass.
I hope they go back to DkS1's system, in Bloodborne.

Tough-Talk Kay is like Prison Trump.

Hilariously untypical and just that little bit awkward that makes it kinda endearing again.

I was actually surprised how long she survived against the gank squad on her very first try, I got obliterated real quick. Good times.

edit: OUTPARRIED AND OUTPLAYED holy shit what a fun fight :lol

I think I used a different build for each area, sometimes even two depending on which weapons I found in them.

Variety keeps things interesting and if there's anything objectively better in DS2 compared to the other Souls games that even the haters have to acknowledge, it's that it has more varied and viable equipment/builds than the others.

The zone Kay is in the latest episodes looks great, reminds me of a good Demon's Soul level with lots of shortcuts and exploration.

The first DLC zone she did looked really drab and boring, not even the moving platforms seemed very interesting.

Second DLC is the best one, with the third one being a close second.

After some downtime, she is back to posting videos again.

She has now reached Fume Knight. Seeing her reasoning as she learns how to deal with this boss is very interesting.

I agree that the second DLC is the best, but I prefer the first one to the third one personally.
