Killzone: Shadow Fall DLC multiplayer maps will be free

This is the smart move. Ensures buyers keep their game well after release. Cuts down on used game sales. Paid DLC should only be for single player missions.

You know, if this is what Sony can give us with the PS+ paywall then I'm not pissed off anymore. I just hope they do the same on other games too.
Yup, they dropped online passes for the same reason. Paywall sucks, but at least they will do away with many of the other terrible practices. They said as much and now they are doing it :)

All guns unlocked from the start and all DLC maps free? Holy shit. Hopefully this sets a precedent for other games, at least from Sony's first party.

Seriously, THIS.

I hate this trend of locking away all the items/perks/loadouts from you, forcing you to grind to have them.

About a week ago, a tried to play the God of War Ascension multiplayer. Although I greatly enjoyed the beta, starting the game just now was frustating. I am a new player, this is enough disadvantage. Giving better weapons/armor to more experienced players just made me rage quit on my first match.

This trend just works in CoD because everyone dies so easily, so you just need to catch someone of guard to get kills. But in games with higher skillcap? No, just no. Keep the unlockables away, please. Make them like good multiplayer pc games were before.

My friend, my brother, and I are all getting this game now. We weren't sure before since we didn't really know about the multiplayer, but now it's a day one purchase for each of us, and I'm really excited.

Bingo! Want new people to come to your game months down the road? Then don't lock weapons, skills and other crap behind hours and hours of gameplay. Want working people with kids to continue playing your game when they can, then make it so 13 year olds with inherently more time can't just grind their way to the best stuff and let skill do the talking.

I can't believe how far removed the industry has become from this. It used to be standard practice that everyone on both sides regardless of time played had access to the same things the only thing that separated them were skill and teamwork. Now we have people you have access to faster health regen, extra armor, RPGs, better weapons, etc. In my mind you can't say your game is balanced if you lock skills and weapons behind hours of playing the game. DICE I am looking straight at you and your need to not only unlock guns but attachments for each gun, and unlocks for every vehicle for crying out loud. There is nothing balanced about that, it's the have time versus the have no time or look this is the only game I play.

Well that's freaking awesome. I hope this trends. Honestly it's actually a better thing for the game because it allows the community to never be separated from each other and ensures that the MP lasts a lot longer.

That's just shitty balance, it's not like it's inherent to unlock systems.

Well it's a good thing I pre-ordered this with my system back in June. Bring back the glory days of Killzone 2 MP Guerrilla!

Only three classes seems to be the only disappointment. But I guess if there's tons of abilities to swap between them it wont make much different.

Does look quite magnificent and made some smart choices.

Absolutely.

What happened to the days of "experience" making you a BETTER MORE SKILLED PLAYER rather than experience leading to unlocks which gives you an advantage?

Absolutely hate that garbage in MP games. I don't have the time to grind.

Woah, seriously this is great. The reason I stopped getting into multiplayer shooters is because of this dogshit. After 6 months you barely have anyone to play with unless you wanna play on the default maps anyway. Seriously, fuck paying for maps on multiplayer focused games. Think of fucking something else to nickle and dime us with.

Perhaps, but I don't need a stick dangled in front of me to keep playing. Just make it fun and that's enough. I had everything unlocked in Last of Us in the first 10 hours, didn't stop me from playing another 50+ after that, and still playing. Unlocks discourage more people than encourage in my opinion.

Most. Appropriate. Gif.

Is this going to be day one digital? I kind of want to be done with plastic boxes finally.
All indications are that Sony's going this path, so it's a safe assumption at the least. Heck, it was their showcase game for downloading functions in one of their E3 videos (though they did similar with Ridge Racer and the best you can get is Type 4.)

Definitely the better policy. I thought KZ2's DLC maps were fucking fantastic but barely anybody had the packs. Had to resort to bot matches to get something out of them.

Just pre-ordered. Yea, if this becomes a trend in the console space next gen then I'll be one happy gamer.

For people who are dissapointed to hear that the game will have only 3 classes, keep in mind that Killzone 2 was at its best when it first came out and people had only unlocked Soldier, Medic, and Engineer. It looks like the classes in Killzone Shadow Fall will probably be something like Light (stealth and support/healing) Medium (Soldier) and Heavy (Like Rico).

The custom warzone stuff seems like Killzone 2 ideology on steroids,. GUYS, GUERRILLA LISTENED TO US FOR ONCE!

Killzone SF has stuff like "Faster Health Regen"

I guess it's an ability, but I'm worried about the extent of those modifers they have. If I'm not mistaken, abilities are locked, aren't they? Maybe they are not, I don't know.

Even if they aren't, I absolutely hated the ribbons in KZ3. Utter garbage. I hope it doesn't happen with SF.

Man, good decisions all around for the PS4 right now. I hope more games follow suit instead of dividing the player-base.

Is there any footage of the MP besides the conference footage?

Fuck! I was considering just getting BF4 and maybe picking this when it goes on sale, but I can't say no to them offering free maps for a title this big on a console. Might have to get both at launch now....

I'm so happy this is a launch game, have my launch bundle ready to go and if the amount of hours I spent playing KZ2 mp is any indication this is the only PS4 game I'll need for months :D

Absolutely.

Absolutely hate that garbage in MP games. I don't have the time to grind.

They found a way to monetize it. A lot of people say we get things we'd otherwise not get thanks to paid DLC and such, but much is taken away. (It's an argument nobody will win because it's all conjecture and beside the point in this case.)

Also, not sure why you put experience in quotes, that should be done for the "experience" you can buy booster packs for.

I know I said the same thing about dedicated servers yesterday but it's year 2013 and free maps is a blockbuster news piece today.

I wish someone said that to me on 2003 and I would have laughed in their face. But very awesome of Guerilla, not gonna happen for BF/COD/Titalfall/any other game and that's a huge bummer.

Good on them. All the maps in Killzone 2 and 3 were quality stuff and knowing that future maps will be free makes me so happy I'm getting this at launch. I'm sure Call of Duty and Battlefield will be really good but this holiday Killzone Shadow Fall will be the shooter I spent ridiculous hours in.

Warzone customization seems very interesting to me as well. It harkens back to the days of Perfect Dark and TimeSplitters. Big chance I'll get this at launch instead of Battlefield 4.
