Killzone: Shadow Fall DLC multiplayer maps will be free

So, even though guns are all unlocked, you can still earn attachments. I wonder if the same goes for abilities.

I am really concerned about stuff like wallhacks, which I saw in the Yoshida playthrough. Hoping it is very limited to classes and not attachments like in COD. And even then, I hope they are very limited. I also really hope weapons are locked to classes. I don't ever want to see Cloak + AR's for Snipers.

Killzone 3 suffered from the same kind of "The more you play, the better and more unbalanced your abilities are" mentality. I hope there aren't crazy abilities like that.

Also, I am worried about Honor Badges, which sound like Uncharted 2's thing where you earn more points if you choose a handicap for yourself like "Have half health, run slower", etc. I don't want that crap in games. Since there's no XP, I doubt this will be the case, but I'm curious as to what Honor Badges are. Speaking of which, I hope they bring back the Honor Badge system from KZ2. That was cool.

I pray that there are no modifiers to health or damage, though it seems there is a "heal quicker after you take damage" option. I assume that's an ability, though it'd be a weird one. I'm expecting lots of class-specific abilities that strengthen teamwork.

There seems to be no evidence of teamwork features, and that concerns me. The big hint being no squad on the HUD. I really do hope they maintain all the awesome class features of KZ2...Engineers fixing everything on the map, ammo boxes, turrets, etc

Now this is some wonderfully great news. Now why can't other games follow this trend...wishful thinking.

I severly doubt it will start a trend.

Do you see EA giving away DLC for free any time soon?

They do when it's the most profitable option, which is most of the time. Mass Effect 3 for example, where they give maps as free DLC to sell more gambling packs.

The only games that should be selling map packs are the 6+ million sellers. Anything else doesn't have the community to support paid DLC.

I like this skill based objectives... and by having all the guns unlocked and later unlocking new skills, attachments, ammo types like that combustion fire shotgun bullets it makes it a fair and also inciting aspect

oh and the map/game mode customization where you can not only change the I.S.A options but also the Helghast separately is very much welcomed

the IGN rewind where they discuss about this increases that

Thanks for this.

Does anyone have a hands-on with this game that describes how the controls feel? Considering this over BF4 but I don't want the "realistic" sluggish feeling thing in MP.

Then buy BF4
They aren't changing the physics of the game just for mp
Killzone is Killzone

When are we finally going to see more of the single player?

All we've seen is really one level of the game and that brief intro level.

SHOW THE FRIGGIN GAME!!!

Great vid. Thanks for posting.

Explosion at 7min 40 looks so good. So do so many of the weapons. That rail gun charge attack, those shotgun incendiary rounds. Damn.

They should really only attach customization to the only thing that should matter, TEAM WINS.

Valve has been doing this for years (though less on the X360 side due to Microsoft's insistence that DLC releases have a price attached). Keeping actual content free and charging for trivial things such as cosmetic items is the ideal approach as the community isn't fractured and the added value entices those more hesitant to purchase the game.

is any one else worried that with the elimination of XP and the promotion of completing challenges people are just gonna send hours boosting with their friends?

Holy hell.

Free?

I won't even know what to do with myself with Killzone SF, Battlefield 4, Driveclub+ and Watchdogs all at launch.

If Planetside 2 makes launch I am fucked.

More companies should follow this, I get that working post release on something that will be released for free is not a great incentive but they should look into other forms of transactions maybe micro-transactions for cosmetic changes rather than splitting the community after each subsequent release of a map pack

There were a couple unlocks that would put you at a disadvantage in Battlefield but not that many. For the most part, your starting equipment is pretty damn good.

Also, you don't have to 'grind'. Just playing the game generally gets you lots of unlocks. You could, of course, spend time grinding for something specific if you wanted to, but that's your own choice.

Most multiplayer games I've played are far more balanced to start out than people like you like to suggest.

Only a couple? Every vehicle in BF3 has something important locked until you grind your life for them. You can't even fire missiles with your jet unless you "level" it up.

XP has been thrown out the window, and instead of the usual levelling, progress is tied to a variety of challenges. Every gun, character class and game mode has its own, and put together there are over 1500 of them. Completing the challenges is rewarded with cosmetic stuff like new skins for the guns and characters alike, but there are also some more useful prizes like different ammo types and add-ons for the weapons. The game's director wanted to emphasize though, that players won't be able to gain the upper hand based simply on those, but that in the end it'll be individual skill that decides the winner.
We only got this short taste of the action, but Ter Heider promised that they will be releasing a lot of new info about the game during the autumn. The final product will feature, among other things, bots for both on and offline bouts, new downloadable maps, as well as clan-support, which is meant to take advantage of the PS4's Share features. On release, Killzone: Shadow Fall will feature 10 maps, and the later additions will be released free of charge.

We have got to get one of the Sony people to say "Have you seen Killzone" during an interview.

Based on what they have shown, this game derserve the love that all the sales ranking sites (ie amazon) have showed it since GC.

Hype for this has surpassed BF4, which also looks stupid good.

Day 1 is a friday...thank god.

I never understood the problem with boosting.

If people want to play against bots or level up with friends, what the big deal?

I'm actually a little bummed the progression is strictly limited to online.

I really really need to see a full round or two of this game. At the moment I'm hyped - I'm imagining Killzone 2 mechanics meeting Timesplitters levels of fun. However, if it plays like Killzone 3 then I'll have to settle for a copy of BF4 with my PS4 instead.
