Killzone: Shadow Fall launch trailer & tech trailer

It looks great, too bad it's rated M because it would've been a decent showcase in those PS4 kiosks. The games I played looked like crap

Kind of pointless to make an animated PNG comparison out of YouTube footage, but here it is, anyways. From nicely clear and crisp to a washed out look in 3 seconds.

from just sharp to atmospheric and immersive. Not washed out.

My take on it is that it goes from nicely clear and crisp to a washed out look in 3 seconds.

I think the post processing gives it a better look overall, specially with the added DOF. However, the characters could look a bit more crisp with the added processes.

I just can't comprehend this, the whole background looks like a load of untextured blocks without the effects. This isn't even debatable.
Everything is debatable. If that's not the case then the terrorists have won.

Post processed looks colorless, almost black-and-white. It's also hazy/fuzzy, thus covering a lot of crisp details, and then there's them lens flares which always annoy me. I don't mind the Depth Of Field, in this case.

It looks much better with the post processing effects.

Although I'm not feeling the cool blue gradient filter overlay.
It crushes a bit of the detail. Maybe GG should lower it opacity a bit.

Let me introduce you to DoF and blur. It looks so much better post processed.

That's great, I specifically noted how nice the track was while watching. It has a real Chaos Theory Amon Tobin funk to it.

Yes, that was one of the first names that popped into my head. Has it been announced who's doing the soundtrack? That tweet seems to make a big deal out of it. I'll definitely want a proper uncompressed soundtrack.

A lot of those changes in that image are also artisitc color grading choices. People will prefer the other look cause its a subjective thing. I prefer having a bunch of cool post effects on screen but the other images dont look bad at all.

It's entirely possible to make a fantastic-looking game WITHOUT the use of such cheap post processing effects. It of course takes talent, which these guys don't seem to have. I've never been a fan of the Killzone visual style, to be honest.

You meant to say "From standard and boring, to grimy and Killzone," correct? I'll never understand some of you that seem to want every game to look pristine with no color timing or effects going on. The shot without post-processing looks like behind the scenes footage from a movie.

The soundtrack in that Tech video sounds really good, as have the rest of the snippets we've heard. I hope that carries over into the rest of the game.

Pretty obvious what your goal was from your first post.

Goddamn this thrills me to no end. I don't know why but I keep getting serious Half Life 2 vibes from this game, the whole slick-looking oppressed city, the forests, trains, next-gen feel.... It's giving me a weird nostalgia for when I was hyped for HL2. To me this is the first really exciting straight-up FPS since then. Tech demo delivered also, really exciting that all that can fit inside a $399 console.

I am not really sure how you can say that. I can understand that you don't care for the KZ aesthetic, but to say they lack talent seems baseless.

But that's the artistic intent of the game's setting. The post process allows them to make the game world vibrant underneath and use post processing effects to turn the pristine world into the dusty war-torn setting.

Where in the previous gen, they would have had to accomplish this by making the surface textures appear dirty which is what gave us the bland, colorless images we've endured.

We have now reached a point where they can create the landscape to appear as beautiful and colorful as it should, then use other more realistic looking techniques to "dirty it up".

Hahahaha, and now we know your real intentions here.

how do people make posts like this and expect to be taken seriously?

In the old gif, the raindrops don't actually do anything to the ground and it looks thicker for some reason. Notice how the rain reacts with the ground.

The rain drops in the scene where it looked bad a month ago still look bad in the launch trailer, rain doesn't seem to do anything to the ground.

Yeah, on second thought, perhaps that was a bit uncalled for.

it was quite laughable

GG have made 2 of the most impressive looking games on the ps3. When KZ2 came out, it demolished any other console game graphically. Honestly, it still looks better than most of them

I'm picking SF up on Launch, but that trailer left me feeling cold. I dunno... after the shittastic stories of KZ2 and KZ3, it's hard to imagine that GG actually wrote something good. The trailer didn't impress me in that regard.

I'm sure the game will look pretty and play well. I just wish that there's a great story to go along with that.

Me too, i wish the stories were better in these games, but everything cant be perfect i guess. Such a shame too cause everything else is great.

Jesus, dude. Even ignoring your comments about GG's talent, I don't know how anyone in their right mind could watch the tech video and call their post processing work "cheap." Comments like that are enough to make a graphics programmer cry.

Anyone else really into the music of the tech trailer? That soundtrack seems actually promising, and boy is a decent soundtrack important to me.
