Just came out of Kingsman: The Secret Service.

Best action movie of 2015 already in the bag! If you've avoided any media, continue to do so. The action filmmaking is astounding. Lots of cheeky, darkly comic fun. There's a couple of scenes that are mindblowing ;) The finale is incredible. Matthew Vaughn really outdid himself. The whip pans, rotates, and zooms without any loss of what's going on makes for some of the most kinetic action I've seen. There's one reverse car chase that just made me go "whuuuuuut". I found X-Men First Class merely serviceable as an action movie but hoped Vaughn would get back to the R-rated unpredictable intensity of Kick Ass and here he outdoes himself. Easily the best western action movie of recent times. Better than John Wick, Dredd, Crank, Kick Ass, Casino Royale, Bourne, and even Edgar Wright's action movies. Up there with the Raid movies. Saw in the credits that Brad Allan was the stunt coordinator so it makes sense the action choreography is so sublime.

Mark Strong and Samuel L Jackson are a joy to watch. The flex-foot cheetah Gazelle is not one to mess with. Just wish there was more time given to Roxy. Colin Firth is an absolute badass. There's one battle scene with him that is just "oh my god", either he's up in the action or the editing with the stuntmen is so brisk that you believe it's him. Warmed up to Taron Egerton as the street smart aleck "chav Bond". I'm pretty sure he's actually doing the parkour in an early scene or the camerawork and editing is just that convincing.

Most of all, it's just well intentioned good fun with a heart, and all about teamwork no matter what your background is.

Don't think any action movie in 2015 will touch it. Doubt the next James Bond or superhero movies will even have a chance, with how bloated those things can be. This is just super tight and goes at a breakneck pace even if it's 129 minutes. Hope this does really well.

Been hearing this film is basically like an amped-up love-letter to the sort of over-the-top ridiculousness of Moore-era Bond. Except you know, way more fun/visually interesting/action-packed than any of those movies.

Absolutely agree. My post from the other thread.

I absolutely loved this film. Honestly, it topped John Wick as my favourite action film in recent months, and I didn't think that'd happen. Funny, slick, fun, well choreographed, written and filmed. Great characters and premise, and just overall over the top entertaining. Pains me that millions will go see tripe like Fifty Shades of Grey over this.

The UK version is disappointingly censored, but yeah it was incredible. Specially THAT scene.

Damn it is? I didn't realise :(

When
Free Bird started playing in the church scene
I had the biggest, dumbest grin on my face. An amazing movie to be sure.

edit:I think that maybe the entire church scene will be top runner for my favorite of the year. It's going to be seriously hard for someone to top that.

It's missing some blood, but there are no cut scenes so far as I know.

Anyway, I absolutely agree that it's a fantastic movie. Not sure I'd call action movie of the year, far too early. Best action movie of the year so far? I'd definitely agree with that.

That specific scene was probably one of the best action scenes I've seen. It's going to hard for any movie to top it.

Yeah it's incredible. I'm watching it a second time this weekend and might even see it a third time with another group of friends. I've never done that with any movie before.

Simply one of my favourite movies that I've seen, it's incredibly enjoyable, fun, great mix of adult humour and action with a likeable cast and brilliant pacing.

Have heard it's pretty mysoginist from a number of people whose opinions I value.

I don't see how outside of a cheeky scene that is satire.

I mean the film has a strong, non sexualized female character that is shown to be more competent than the men. My girlfriend thought she was a really cool character. There is nothing inherently misogynistic about the film. Most of the characters are men but that doesn't make it so.

If they thought the scene near the end was misogynistic the whole thing went over their heads quite frankly.

Great movie, such a fun ride.

Not that I let the views of critics bother me too much but I did hear some guy on Film 2015 complaining about the film's depiction of the white working class. I didn't think it was that bad, and the way it was presented provided a good contrast between Eggsy's life and the suave, sophisticated world he ends up in.

Not sure I'd agree with that. One of the female lead characters could certainly have used more of a focus in the second half, but one of the best characters is female and she is a very strong character who is more than a match for any of the male characters.

There's certainly no hint of hatred towards women. I was actually surprised by how non sexualised the female leads were.

Yeah it's pretty good. I rarely see a movie more than once in the cinema but I had to see this a second time because I enjoyed the first quite a lot.

By far the best spy movie I've seen though, just wish the villain's plan was a little better.

I thought it was pretty accurate there too be honest.

Overall I give it a thumbs up, but I found it a bit annoying that multiple times during the film they said things like "this isn't that kind of movie!" then would subvert some singular trope from a bond film. But for every other moment in the movie, it absolutely is "that kind of movie" to a tee. It felt like it couldn't decide if it wanted to be those movies or to subvert them.

Sounds like a Vaughn film.

Missed seeing it twice at early screenings :( First time cause of a snowstorm, second because I got there too late. Really hoping it lives up to the hype now.

Yeah, thinking of seeing it again with friends. Saw this only with my sister. She already finds Colin Firth attractive but him being a badass here made her swoon even more :p

Yeah I saw it with my girlfriend and two of her female friends and they all loved it. They loved the ending too, I think they were swooning over her more than Colin Firth. Going to watch it with dad and again with the boys.

That's exactly how Kick-Ass worked. At some point in the last 35 minutes, Kick-Ass became the superhero movie it was subverting, and then Vaughn turned it WAY up.

If that's what he's done here, but with Bond movies, I think I'll be pretty happy.

Can't say I agree it reaches the high praise that the OP throws at it. Pretty good film though. Colin Firth was great and the
Church
scene was standout. Nick Fury was fun and his hired muscle was wow.

John Wick is still the best action film of the year so far for me.

I mean. Yeah. It's february. It's competiton are two movies that were in development hell for almost 18 months before being shat into theaters.

You're a big guy.

Not to mention the villain's second in command.
It was nice to see a disabled powerful character too
Not the biggest spoiler there.

It's only a couple of lines and more of a setup with a payoff which you can see in many movies that do call-and-response with their dialogue. That line is more about just one specific action that's about to happen, didn't feel the whole movie was trying to be some Alan Moore level of genre deconstruction. But it definitely could've been more subversive if Vaughn wanted to go all out, although it might have lost the fun tone and been something as grating/preachy like Birdman.

It's still February, I wouldn't say anything like that just yet, but yes it does look awesome, I wanna see it.

Lol ok. They are wrong though.

I saw the movie just before Thanksgiving last year. It was alright. Sam Jack was HILARIOUS! However, it was one of those "just watch once" type of movies for me.

No idea if the comic says any differently, but I'm willing to bet she done it willingly, to be more efficient, unless I missed something in the movie.

I watched this movie at a screening back in January. Even got a poster signed by the cast out if it, which was cool.

That being said, it's a fun movie, but is it standard bearer for action movies this year? Nope. Is it a standard bearer for action movies any other year? Nope.

I think it was pretty telling that I watched this one week and felt almost nothing, then watched Whiplash the next week and felt my heart reach anxiety attack levels of pounding.

In retrospect, one thing that peeved me off in this one was
how the girl that was elected into Lancelot's position never really does anything for the final action scene although she's more of badass than the main character. Seemed like a cop-out for her character as a whole as well as a way of devaluing her role in order to make the guys the heroes.

Doc Holliday

SPOILER: Columbus finds America
Brad Allan?!!?

Brad Allan?!! The guy who along with jackie Chan is in my favorite fight scene of all time?

wow!
