Kitty has a swollen eye, does she look alright? :(

I woke up and her eye is swollen, no discharge and she isn't flinching or anything when I was examining it. I plan on taking her to the vet tomorrow if it didn't clear up over night.

We do have a kitten that plays with her and she's an inside cat so I'm assuming she was playing too roughly with the little one :(

Shit I was hoping it was nothing... I don't have a lot of money right now :/

Any idea how much this would run for antibiotics?

I'm going to guess anywhere between $30 - $70, depending on where you are and what they give you. Sometimes "staple" medications and treatments will stay in the under $40 range though. It's really hard to say if we don't know what she'll be prescribed. Wonder if there are any vets or vet techs about.

My cat recently had a similar swelling with his upper eyelid

the vet gave me two option... a operation that was near $900 Canadian dollars or some medication

antiboitic pills, eyedrop, and a optional cream.... came around $357 which I decided to take since the operation had a chance of damaging him permanently in anyway

Ugh... Can't afford something like that, although I'm in the US.

Sad to hear. Is there any possibility she was bitten by something?

Sometimes mine squints suddenly for a day and the next day he is fine, I tend to think he simply had something irritating it. Hopefully that is more likely.

it could be cheaper in the US

for me my cat got in a scuffle with a outside cat (dirty cat claws)

his wound on his eyelid sealed up and got infected by this.... I took him to the vet and they told me those options since it wouldn't swell down

took around 2 weeks for it to settle down with the medication

She's an indoor cat and we live upstairs so an insect bite sounds unlikely. I'm thinking she just got beat up by our kitten while we were sleeping.

Good news is that the eyeball looks fine and the third eyelid isnt swollen. Probably something foreign stuck in her lower eyelid or some kind of injury. You should get some antibiotics and take her to the vet for sure before it gets worse but it doesnt look like its super serious. Best get it taken care of before it becomes problematic.

Yeah this is my plan if it doesn't clear up by morning.

I see some redness around her lower eye lid around the eye in question. It does look like an infection so I suggest you take the cat into a vet for further examination.

Just take her in to the vet. Explain everything including your financial situation. Vet will guide you from there.

You can always check online .. The meds might be cheaper in Canada. I had to do that for my old dog that needed medication daily, otherwise it would have been ridiculously expensive.

Vet is closed currently and I have no car, so it'll have to wait until morning unfortunately.

I took a look and the ointments and drops seem to be $50-60 at their most expensive.

One of our cats got an infection of some sort in one of his eyes, though it manifested more as redness than swelling. The medication was cheap, some sort of antibiotic ointment. Obviously I'm not a vet, so I'd say get it checked out. There are a lot of options, at least here in the states, for credit cards that are meant specifically for pet expenses. The one we have is "Care Credit." Most vet offices will figure something out, they're usually just happy when pet owners are responsible and try to get care.

I had my cat die this year. I got him (and his sister) when I was living with my ex-girlfriend and I kept them after we broke up. And he was pretty important to me.

He had cancer which I didn't know. He started internally bleeding a couple days before (due to I guess the tumour finally growing large enough to start bleeding) but to me he just seemed sort of sluggish and wasn't eating much. I thought maybe he had a flu and would see if he got better before taking him to the vet. Then the next day I woke up and he was barely moving so then I went into panic mode and went to the vet (and it got considerably worse as I was going to the vet, he was slowly dieing in my arms :( ). Vet couldn't save him (well from the vet to a pet hospital). He said there was nothing I could have done, even if earlier, but there is so many thoughts and guilt feelings that come up when you've taken a bit of time to take your pet to the vet.

Just don't delay it. Best situation it's nothing and you may have wasted a bit of money. Worst thing there's nothing you can do. But you can avoid the guilt I feel, even though logically I know it would have ended up the same, you may not be able to stop feeling it.

I'm sorry to hear that, and I understand the feeling of guilt and "what if". That's why I plan on taking her tomorrow morning if she doesn't clear up.

Fwiw she is calmly snoozing on my lap right now and was running down the hall earlier, other than the eye being squinted she seems fine for now.

Yeah I'm probably projecting on your situation, I just think it's worth the $50 whatever checkup fee and the time inconvenience if anything is off just incase. Because they don't show symptoms well.

I took her to the vet, turns out it's an abscess tooth :/

Thankfully I can pay for the removal this weekend but I was only able to get antibiotics for the next few days.

Damn, 350?

I had a dog that never lost his puppy teeth. Like, the adult teeth grew in in front of his baby teeth. He had two rows of teeth like a shark.

Vet said it'd be best to remove them when we got him neutered. So we waited until then.

Neutering, extracting like, 15 teeth, and an overnight stay at the vets was only 150 bucks :(
I live bum fuck nowhere basically and have no car so I just opted to take her to the best clinic in town. Sucks but it is what it is.

I would like to see a shark dog, that sounds interesting.
