Kojima is searching for a studio that will remake MGS1 in Fox Engine

Please god

People calling for MG1+2 remakes first, you do realize that Kojima is asking for another studio to do this, right?

KojiPro and this other studio could be making games at the same time. I doubt a MGS1 remake would interfere with KojiPro's continuing the timeline after MGSV.

Plus, with MG1, they could change it a bit to make it more like MGS5, with a big open map. You'd have the landscape around Outer Heaven, and Outer Heaven itself, and would go in and out and such.

Well, I thought
Shadow Moses in MGS4
played pretty well, so I'd say the layout of the levels is perfectly fine.

What might need tuning is the placement and movement patterns of the enemies. I wouldn't mind that, I just don't want them to change the "floor plan", so to speak.

That kind of highlights what I'm describing though. Sure, it plays fine, but Act 4 of Metal Gear Solid 4 basically shows us the entirety of the MGS1 in less than a couple of hours. The progression in mechanics we have now just doesn't fit the mold of what was the core design of the game was in 1998.

It's not a matter of time and resources, just necessity. MGS1 has been remade---by a studio that was not directly under Kojima's supervision already. It turned out---kind of divisive then, I don't understand the allure to have it yet again.

this.

mgs1 is great and doesn't need touching. everything in it works, and when you mess with it you get TTS.

MG1 on the other hand...

Metal Gear 1 in 2013+ needs Jesus.

It would essentially be an entirely new game with familiar landmarks cause there's only so much there to work with. 1987 was quite a while ago, and they wouldn't have a lot to work off except a basic framework of characters, locations, and a handful of well-known events (e.g. Snake rescuing Gray Fox). Metal Gear 2 has aged much better, but could still be revamped entirely in the FOX Engine as well.

Much more pertinent cases of what would constitute as a project I would willingly throw money at.

But that's because it was only one part of a greater whole, so they shut off some areas to make it shorter. I don't see why the progression mechanics wouldn't work today, isn't it pretty much the same keycard system they used in MGS2? That's only 12 years ago.

I'd imagine that remaking MGS2 would afford them the opportunity to bring it more in line with the greater Metal Gear series. It's still the odd duck in a lot of ways. You can tell it was never supposed to have a sequel.

Will this remake include David Hayter? Will they use the original soundtrack and voice recordings? Be interesting to find out.

"A Hind D??!"

Doubtful that they'd use the original voice recordings. They had to 're record them for Twin Snakes because the originals were recorded in a makeshift studio--they could hear cars drive by outside when they tried plugging it into Twin Snakes.

Holy shit yes.
This is the best news...
Imagine it... Just imagine it...

Hope this actually happens.
I'd love Fox Engine remakes of MG1 and 2 as well. Although I wouldn't be surprised if they're just completely done away with and the next game in the series is basically a re-do, being as Phantom Pain looks to be an immediate prequel to MG1; a game from 1987, it may be easier just to come full circle and overlap a little.
Then Kojima can be done with Metal Gear

And then in a few years I can buy all of the games again in yet another HD package. Put it in my veins. Take my money

Isn't this the second full remake and about the fifth re-release of this game? And everyone really wants it to happen?

I must say, MGS fans are nothing if not dedicated.

So long as they don't re-record the dialogue again. Just let me pick from the original, or heaven forbid someone actually liked it, the rerecord for Twin Snakes.

I'd rather see metal gear 1 & 2 remade first if I had to pick, but I'd happily buy all 3.

I could go either way with this (since I already played TTS).

MGS1 PSN sales must be good for him to consider this?

I want to blame Dennis Dyack but i'm pretty sure the cutscenes were directed by the same guy who did Devil May Cry. I have no idea why Kojima or Silicon Knights didn't tell the guy he was an idiot and hire someone who understands the grounded nature of MGS.

Grounded nature? Did you skip MGS3? The game where a woman does a backflip on a motorcycle by driving onto a guy?

Yep. Stop being weird, Kojima!

Honestly MG1 is pretty redundant when MG2 exists. The plot is paper thin, and the events could easily be summed up in a 1-2 hr opening mission. Thus, we have Kojipro remake both MG1 and 2 into one main game. Use MG1 for the Tanker/Virtuous Mission/Ground Zeros styled prelude and use the events of MG2 as the basis for the core campaign. Hell, the initial plot twist of Big Boss betraying you could work just like in MGS3's Virtuous Mission. Except with uh, opposite results. Could make for a pretty compelling game.

We're never going to see Twin Snakes on a non-GameCube console, aren't we?

Shit, it'd make sense if Wii U got a MGSHD collection but got Twin Snakes instead of a emulated PS1 MGS.

A game with mechs that moo at people, crows that eat someone down to nothing in five seconds, also did I mention the mechs

It will probably have full 3d camera movement and end up being even easier than twin snakes. I'm betting the people that want this most will be the least happy.

I only want a full remake if they legitimately remake the game, so much so they overhaul the level design, AI, and boss encounters to better accommodate the MGS4/MGS5 level mechanics. Else you'll get yet another Twin Snakes situation where you're overpowered beyond belief. And with the original and Twin Snakes still playing more than well enough, I don't see much point of another remake except for graphics wank.

MG/MG2 would do far better to be remade/reimagined on FOX Engine, especially since I suspect there's a lot of Metal Gear fans who haven't played them.

Honestly they just should have gone the MGS1 PC version route and only let you use FPV aiming after you cleared the game once. As was--like you pointed out--it totally broke the game in a lot of situations, boss fights especially (Ocelot...ugh).

At this point it doesn't really matter if they've played them or not. Kojima has retconned so much of those games the specific events don't really matter as much, and even if you did play them you'd probably end up confused as some of the events later games call back to don't actually even happen.

It would be really cool if The Phantom Pain re-imagined the events of MG1/2 somehow.
I mean it makes more sense to remake those than MGS1.

Unless MGSV is going to retcon the games out and the remake of MGS1 will help bridge the games.
