Konami Announces Lords of Shadow Pachislot

Is the pachinko market going better for them than gaming did? I mean... it's possible, even if it would suck.

If they fail here surely there's room for a wild shakeup and a leader who'll take the reigns in another direction? Or is that too much of an American business move for a don't-rock-the-boat Japanese company?

If their last earnings report is anything to go by iirc their revenue went down while their profits went up so... Yeah kinda.

real talk, pachislot news should be banned from GAF.
1.) it is not the kind of gaming GAF covers or anyone here is interested in
2.) only posted because it's about konami, triggeralert
3.) therefore you know what the thread will be about even before entering it.

Not to defend pachislots as a concept, but for this one, like the MGS3 one, the fact that it's made by Konami is tangential to the fact that is based on a video game license. Talking about it should be the same as talking about the new Mega Man cartoon or any other product derived from video games.

Besides, those graphics look amazing!

Step by step breakdown of how I saw it:
konami (meh)
Lords of Shadows (holy shit yes!)
Pachislot (oh for fuck sake)

I really don't know why I did it to myself... maybe after those job listings deep down I had something resembling hope. Oh well #fuckonami

This is a dream crusher, I know it will never happen, but here I am sitting and waiting for Castlevania Lords of Shadow 3, something to wrap up the franchise.

Thing is I really wish MercurySteam had gone with the original ending for LoS.2, that would have been an unforgettable ending.

Honestly, I'd never thought Lord's of Shadow + Classic soundtrack would fit so PERFECTLY.

IKR. This is basically me. A part of me thinks LoS2 was just a DMC2 situation and there's a brilliant third game waiting somewhere

:(

Is there a more unfairly hated franchise than LoS? There's zero reasons to hate on it unless you really liked the classic music over.. anything else in the series. Let's face it, the old Canon's story was a mess, and let's not start with the old 3D games.

Their biggest mistake was hubris, the whole "forget everything you know about Castlevania" PR and not using IGA's team for Mirror of Fate.

I know pachislot is a thing, and game companies have their own version of pachislots, but why is Konami putting in AAA levels of development into this shit? That music would sound like it belongs in a kick ass remake of the earlier Castlevania's, and they've redone MGS3 cutscenes in the FOX Engine again that would be a kick ass remake as well.

I cannot comprehend this part of Konami, going all in on pachislot is one thing the effort they're doing to update their franchises and wasting it on pachislot is on another level.

FY 2016 Q1-3 vs FY 2017 Q1-3. Their revenue only went down slightly. From 179.3b yen to 163.9b. But their profit (after deduction of taxes and interest) went up by more than 3 times. From 6.3b yen to 20.7b yen. They make the most money with mobile though.

To be honest, I really loved LoS2, I am not ignorant to its flaws but it was a dream come true, playing as Dracul (though lesser evil than his MoF version) was a blast, loved it alot.

There are many memorable moments for me in LoS2, and it breaks my heart that we won't see a 3rd game, it is a gem that needed refinement.

Even if there was, I believe Lords of Shadow Saga did a good job of distancing itself from old Castlevania titles, It was its own universe, nothing wrong with that.

Bruh... theres whole tv channels for it here in Japan.

I really really REALLY think GAF still does not want to understand how big this business is here in Japan.

There is a pachislot for everything. Go ahead and get offended by -insert series- having a pachislot now cause it probably already exists.

no, it really isn't sadly.

How big could the crossover market be for such things? Or is it just that people will play any pachislot and new themed ones regularly are simply to keep people entertained?

Cashing in on their franchises that they'll never develop for again.

Saddening really. Double saddening because I'd rather play this than Lords of Shadow 2.

Hearing the NES music makes me want to play Castlevania 3...

I wish that Konami would just license these properties out. It's not like they can taint brands that are just being used as pachislot window dressing.

I don't get the point of these threads. This isn't a pachinko forum. The only reason these threads are made is to rile people up. Pachinko makes money in Japan, so what? It's not as if they chose between making this or a new Castlevania game.

Meh. I'm not surprised nor does this make me worry about future Konami projects. Konami make Pachinko machines based on their franchises, so do lots of Japanese companies.

Of course the major difference here is Konami went crazy 2 years ago but they've slowly began making their way back into the console space with Super Bomberman R and Metal Gear Survive. We'll probably have even more Konami games at E3 this year.

Packinko machines are just par of the course with Konami now, I honestly don't get the "#FUCKKONAMI" reactions. We all want a new Castlevania, even a Lords of Shadow game, but I seriously doubt this is holding back any potential new project.

On a less ranty note at least we can still play as Simon Belmont in Super Bomberman R:

How? These aren't for us, they're for people who like pachislot. If they were canceling traditional games in favor of making pachislots then I'd understand your logic. But they're not, they're just not making traditional games right now. These things are cheap and fast to make, so they churn them out and they make them shitloads of money.

If these aren't meant for people like "us," then why wrap them up in a license which has been meant for us for the past 30 years? Why use characters and music that are sure to pull on the nostalgia strings of those people? Is it so difficult to understand why people would be confused and angered by this? I mean, what if Disney suddenly decided that character-themed pornography (cheap and fast to make) was a more profitable venture?

Yeah, great comparison there...Keep getting angered about pachinko machines you have no interest in. They have the IPs and they make pachinko machines. It makes sense they'd combine them. Does Disney make porn? How do you know people interested in those franchises don't play the machines in Japan?

I think it's more just vented anger against Konami, in almost any Konami thread you get someone saying "Can't wait for Jim Sterling to tear this apart!", it's just a big ol' anger rally. I honestly expect a new game from Konami at E3 this year, I don't think Super Bomberman R was a one off fluke and we know Metal Gear Survive will be playable on the show floor.
