Kotaku: Three Weeks Later, DriveClub Still Doesn't Work Properly

Jesus, hyperbole much. Actually this whole thread is full of shit...

Hyperbolic wondering just what level of broken/barebones the product must have been 12 months ago?

We're about 1 month down the line and multiplayer stuff still isn't working according to reports. Thats not a "oops, needs more servers" thing, or a "just need to tweak some stuff", thats a "oh jesus fuck, the entire online core wasn't programmed properly" situation, and thats after a year delay, a promotional program for PS+ now thrown to the wayside almost entirely possibly for the year, and of course the middling reviews.

I've personally been part of some terrible launches like Realm Reborn, but thankfully I've dodged ones like Battlefield 4 and now, seemingly the crown taker, DriveClub.

Probably the worst launch of a game since SimCity. It's amazing how badly this launched. I understand a few days but 3 weeks? Wtf?!
Weird, I could has sworn I spent the last 3 weeks putting 30 hours into this game.

Your post is full of shit. Their product doesn't work. They deserve the shit slinging.

Exactly and if it were MS or EA or Ubisoft, you would have bigger threads with meaner posts made about their lack of a working product almost a month after it was put on the market at full price. Sony and Evolution deserve no special consideration for a game based on online play and social features...and still missing a PS+ version promised at launch.

The only things Sony succeeded on this generation is coming out with decent hardware at an attractive price and making it easy for developers, AAA and indie, to make games on it. Everything else from their exclusive game lineup to their super-slow correction of network and OS issues has been a severe disappointment.

Sony's seeing too much success and they seem to lack the hunger that MS has demonstrated lately.

It's still early in the console life cycle, and they have plenty of time to turn things around, but they're really fumbling around with shit they should have had locked down.

Not sure what the surprise is. The long term plan is that people will stop playing and servers will stabilize. Sony isn't gonna fix this any other way!

I love the game too, I really do. I've been having a lot of fun with it.

But this server situation is fairly indefensible. Such a shame.

I think DC will be pretty good in February, after they've finally fixed everything and added the missing bits (replay, weather, some DLC). It's a testament to how good the core game is that I've just been overlooking the online portion and racing the Tour. (sorry Gerstmann)

Such a blemish, though. I can't even imagine what could be the issue at this point.

DrivelClub is more like it, amirite??

Hope Sony will give us some free PS+ months or bring back the 50℅ discount on the 1 year PS+ thingy, somehow they need to make something for goodwills sake.

Under all this debacle there is a beautiful and intense racer, I for one love it!

if sony has still so many problems with their promised ps+ stuff, why does ms always get the hate?

i dont get it. a friend of mine saw the trailer back then in feb.2013 and bought a few days ago drive club for ps4. he asked me if its the same game which was shown back then....

Disastrous, they should be slated for this. 3 days is unacceptable but 3 weeks? Heads need to roll, a colossal brand damaging mistake.

oh well..., I'm enjoying the game despite it's network issues.
network issues suck no doubt, but not as much as the posts in this thread.
maybe i should cry about a refund like an entitled child.

This was posted on Facebook about 27 min ago.. maybe the Kotaku article goosed them...

Hi everyone,

We know we have been quiet over the last few days which was because we wanted to offer you news when it has a meaningful impact on your experience of DRIVECLUB. The feedback you offered has been invaluable to the team because it’s informed our updates to iron out the major issues affecting you as quickly as possible.

Our diagnostics show the majority of you are now able to get online and racing. This increased stability has meant that statistics and accolades are updating efficiently now, so hopefully you have been having fun boosting your fame and watching how you compare to your friends and other racers around the world.

Today we also released a server update to optimise multiplayer matchmaking so you will now be matched with more suitable players based on the type of internet connection you have, which means matchmaking should be more reliable. This update will also fix some bugs we had with clubs where some players couldn't join or leave a club.

Improvements continue to be made to the servers and our next significant game update will be released this week. This will boost connectivity and provide a better overall experience.

Thanks for your support and we will provide more news as soon as we have it.

You say entitled like it's always a bad word. If people are entitled to anything it's that a product they paid money for works correctly.

Sometimes I think some people on GAF don't even understand the words they're using or what they mean. It's like they first heard "Hyperbole" and "Entitled" here and never bothered looking up the definition.

Must admit as much as I like the game the online situation has made me think about sending it back to Amazon for a refund. In 3 weeks I think I've connected briefly twice, I tried to join a club to and progress but it just isn't stable. Real shame tbh.

Man this is a precautionary tale to buying digitally. I feel bad for the folks that are stuck with this purchase. Luckily FH2 and TF worked out for me buying digitally but this fiasco has made me wait post release to buy digitally.

They should have delayed this for another year, I mean they already have dlc planned for a year so why not release the complete game with dlc, replay, weather and online working too? Now they have to live with this half assed game forever.

What? I don't need a refund, but I want my game to work. Others wanting refund for a game that doesn't work that they paid $60 for... how is this crying like an entitled child. smh

Um.. what is so entitled about wanting a game with a functioning online component as advertised? If the game does not deliver because of incompetence than customers are well within their right to ask for a refund. What if you buy a PS4 and you cant go online for a long time? Would you say well ... I am enjoying playing single player games offline so I cant believe people are crying about a refund like an entitled child?

Don't ever buy anything that relies on online digitally or you're just asking to be burned.

Entitled.. you paid money for a product to work correctly and it hasn't for 3 weeks, if that's "entitled" consumerism is fucked. Might as well roll over and ask companies to screw you now.

I could see this defense a day or two after release. But at three weeks it's wearing pretty thin.

the e word.

people paid for a product and it still has issues weeks after release. While many games have server issues out the gate, it's not like this came out yesterday.

I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure Evolution set out to make a game that functions properly.

Wrong. You don't understand the neo-futurist vision of this game. Art is dead, games are broken. The world is nothing more than an ever turning cog in the infinte universe. If you want to experience true société, play Driveclub.

You say entitled like it's always a bad word. If people are entitled to anything it's that a product they paid money for works correctly.
Game's been working correctly for me (online and off) for the last week.
The frustration of the first two weeks was eclipsed by the stellar gameplay.

But what do I know. I'm just some dude who owns and plays the game.

Anyway, I'm off to sue Nvidia for every game that's been released without proper SLI drivers available on launch day. The frustration of waiting a week or two for my GPU's to blaze in tandem has resulted in truly agonizing pain and suffer, I'm owed something.

So cancel the PS+ version you figure?

They would have to actually come out and say that at some point wouldn't they?

Under all this debacle there is a beautiful and intense racer, I for one love it!

I feel so incredibly sorry for those working on this that had nothing to do with this. A disgrace, really.
Right there with you on both of these sentiments. There is an awesome racer being buried under these issues.

It was always my intention to try the PS+ version first and let that experience decide whether I wanted to buy the full game. But, given they can't even get the full game running and from watching live streams of this game and realizing just how boring it is, I have pretty much decided against a buy even if this game drops to $20 or $30. I'm not a racer but I enjoying hopping into a race every now and then. I have the stomach for maybe two racers tops per generation. This won't be one of those games.

Guild wars 2 did.

I want to say Guild Wars 2 was pulled from market for server strain issues I think.

FF14:ARR halted sales until they could get their servers stable.

Many games have, you speak like there is some sort of geneva convention treaty that forbids the developers to freaking do THE RIGHT THING until the game is fixed.

Good examples.

All of those games are online only so you wouldn't be able to play them if they didn't work. Driveclub has a large single player component and I'm sure there would be people angered by the fact they wouldn't be able to buy it to play offline mode. I still don't know a single game that wasn't online only that got pulled from sale.

Why is anyone surprised. Evo packed as little as possible into the game and this is just more of the same.

I really love this game but even I stopped playing it, waiting for the servers to work completely because there is just so much of the experience centered around online. I loved when I had the game before release date, everything was smooth as butter. The game is still great, it just would be so much better if the online worked.
