KS8000 settings for gaming at 4k/HDR

Are you serious? It won't play standard blu rays? Not 4K. But standard 1080p HD BluRays won't work? Your wrong it worked on my 1080p Panasonic but for whatever reason my Samsung 4K tv won't recognize the output. Seems like a tv firmware problem?

It plays standard blu rays just fine. It is just not a UHD 4k Blu Ray player. Ive watched blu rays on my ks8000 with the ps4 pro and have not had this issue. Have you tried another HDMI input on your TV and are you using the hdmi cable that the ps4 came with out of curiosity?

Doubt it's the firmware, unless you've never updated it. I have no issues playing blu-rays on the Pro.

Since it works fine with everything BUT movies I would guess it has something to do with the HDCP copy protection. Something in your chain between the PS4 Pro and the TV isn't supporting it correctly.

- Try a different cable
- Try a different port on the TV box
- If there is anything in the middle between the PS4 pro and the TV such as a receiver, try bypassing it just as an experiment to see if that clears up the problem.

Using monster cable paid over 100 bucks for that damn thing I'm gonna be pissed if that's the issue.😩

I'll try the cable it came with/ different HDMI port tonight.

holy crap. why would you pay that much? it's not like analog where super expensive cables give you better picture quality. As long as it supports HDMI 2.0b you're good.

I got rid of this issue, pretty sure it's nothing to do with the smart LED as I have mine on high. Think it's to do with the lighting in the game and gamma settings. I've got Witcher 3 looking absolutely stunning on my tv now.
Interesting. Isn't Smart LED Samsung's local dimming option? That's what causes blooming for me, but I like darker blacks so I just live with it.

I have a bunch of dirt cheap, high speed hdmi cables that do have problems with either 4k, hdr or deep color (or all of them together). I noticed the longer cables being more problematic.

I would expect a $100 cable to have no issues though...

The issue is really that Monster cables are mostly markup rather than quality.

I have mentioned it earlier in this thread but to connect my PC to my TV I needed at least 7 meter long cables. I tried nearly all the HDMI High Speed cables a couple of local electronics stores sold and none of them worked properly. The issues I experienced:
  • Missing refresh rates, e.g. 4K @ 30 Hz only or 4K @ 60 Hz but 1440p @ 30 Hz. Adding custom resolutions or refresh rates didn't work.
  • Picture randomly dropping out and coming back.
  • Not showing picture at all with UHD Color enabled for the input in the TV
  • Only allowing 4:2:0 color.

I eventually had to buy a fancy ass hifi Audioquest Pearl 8 m HDMI cable that cost me about 159 euros. This cable has absolutely none of the issues listed above and works perfectly. So yeah, cable quality does matter but it should only be an issue with cable lengths above 5-6 meters. Many HDMI High Speed cables seem to be just plain crap and not actually up to the task.

I've noticed that whenever finger prints touch this TV screen, they basically never leave. What the hell is up with that? And what is an acceptable way to clean this damn thing safely?

lol i know, my cat put her nose on my screen and i tried to wipe if off with my thumb, what a mistake!!!! lol

I know lots of people are taking the piss for my monster cable but my setup required a 12 foot HDMI cord. The next step down was still 50 bucks, so I figured I'd splurge on the $85 monster since I got em on sale after Christmas mark down. My old HDMI cable (even though it was labeled HDMI 2) DID NOT support 4K when I first hooked up my pro.

Have you ever checked Monoprice?

HDMI 15 feet for $9.99. There may even be other versions cheaper. The 10 foot one is $4.99.

Yes it is. Need it set to high to get the highest contrast levels apparently, but I don't get any negative issues with it set to high.

Think the issue on the Witcher on ps4 is a bit of ghosting, and a glow around objects due to the lighting in the game, most noticeable on faces.

Alright guys, need to ask a potentially dumb question. I'm torn between a 55 and 65 inch ks8000 currently. I sit about 8 and a half feet away from my current tv so from what I read online it sounds like I'm kind of in that sweet spot where both sizes could potentially work. I just wanted some GAF insight, for 8-9 feet away would a 65 inch set be too much?

I don't know any technical answer to give except I got the 65" and sit about that far away and love it. Love it.

damn I thought I was the only one!!!!! The smudges look terrible especially when theres sunlight in the room!
Use the cloth that came with the tv. Worked fine for me.

It didnt work for me, it just made it worse! lol
I had this problem after my son touched it, the cloth included with the TV just seemed to spread the smudge around, rather than clean it off and it looked blue in certain light.

I ended up buying some Monster Screenclean (This appears to be recommended by Samsung for oily fingerprints) and that appeared to get 90% of it off and it's much less visible now. The only time I can see it now is if the sun is shining on it and I look at the screen at a certain angle.

Is this what you used?

is there an equivalent of this under a different name? It says shipping would be 1-2 months lol

Personally, at that distance I would get the 55" and save the extra dough for an OLED set a few years down the line. That's what I did. And also keep in mind that the viewing angles on this set are pretty narrow so if you are sitting close and the screen is wider, you will notice the effects (slight lowered contrast/color saturation) on the edges of the screen more at 65".

Hmm, I wonder if I was talking about something else. It's been a while since I last played Witcher 3 to remember how some of the lighting was set up.

With Smart LED enabled (especially at high), do you not get blooming when viewing the rtings local dimming test for example?

Not gaming related, but I have this stupid issue where the TV netflix app stops responding to a remote.

I can open the app, and it takes me to the profile choice screen, but then nothing works. The only way to quit is to hold the back button, but if I relaunch the same thing occurs.

What doesn't make sense is if I choose a title from the quick access menu thing without just launching netflix, it plays fine. But still, no button presses work (so can't pause, go back, stop, etc). Still the only way to quit things is to hold the back button.

What can I do to fix this? It's happened multiple times now. So far the only way to fix is just not use Netflix for awhile, as in like turn the TV off and try again tomorrow.

All one needs is a high speed hdmi cable.. The signal is digital monster was only good for the analog days. Over 6 feet yes you want a quality cable but 90% off them are high speed the other 10% are not and hence problems.. Monster and all theese fancy companies for HDMI cables are all PR.. Cable is either high speed or not and over 6 feet check to make sure it's high speed and built sturdy,

I decided if I was in for a penny I'd be in for a pound, and got the 65" and don't regret it one bit. The bigger size is kind to the fidelity of 4K content, and I no longer feel like I lose a lot of detail by sitting across my 8' living room.

Always get the largest size you can. Screen sizes tend to feel smaller the longer you live with them.

I have the 65 in my bedroom. Normally I'm not that close, but when I play games, I pull up a chair and sit about 5 feet away from it.

So pissed off right now, turns out the f'ing monster cable was the reason that I can't watch standard BluRays....ugh what a freaking joke. I hooked up my PS4Pro with Sonys supplied HDMI and bam-no problem (the Good Dinosaur looks AMAZING on this set btw)

Guess I'll find out if Monster really stand by their lifetime guarantee. I'll report back..

...just noticed, that my KS7090 (equals KS8000 in US) automatically cranks up brightness to 20 with HDR-games on PS4. This was definitely not the case before PS4 Firmware 4.50, but it is definitely a fact. Just booted up "First Light" with the picture settings menu on the TV opened and as soon as the game started, brightness went from 7 to 20 and back to 7 after I closed the game.
Please check and confirm. Can up to video to youtube later, if someone doubts this...

What firmware version are you on? Are you playing in Game Mode?

...did you read my posting? My 7090 works perfectly with HDR content after I updated the PS4 to FW4.5 Beta3. Maybe PS4-Firmware was the reason why this did not work after all...

What TV firmware are you on? I dont think amything but the TV forces HDR

Are you in Special Setting Game Mode?? Not movie , dynamic , or normal?

This TV never automatically changed settings in game mode HDR playback.

So your saying on 1165 GAME MODE your PS4 automatically put backlight to 20?

no, my TV is on FW1160 in Game Mode, no Movie Setting. Brightness goes to 20 automatically on HDR-content and back to 7 after closing the game.

...sorry, forgot this info! Yes, gaming mode is on and I'm on 1160 so PS4 firmware is definitely the reason

Does it allow you to change other settings on the TV in Game Mode, that revert back when you aren't playing an HDR-specific game? or is it just specifically brightness?

It would definitely explain why this hasn't been fixed after countless updates from Samsung.

Alright, thanks for the help guys. Picking up a 65 inch KS8000 in a few hours. So, besides the stuff in the OP is there anything else I need to be heads up about? Make sure all HDMI ports have HDMI UHD enabled, check the brightness in game mode, anything else?

Set your inputs correctly. Some may set correctly automatically, but it's good to check. Make sure Game Mode is on for the appropriate inputs.

Be careful taking the screen out of the box.

It's very easy to put pressure on it because the borders are so thin.

Also keep a look out for the legs. They are labelled left and right, but right and left if you are looking at the TV from the back.

Ok, so basically put the legs on from the perspective of the TV.

Ok, everyone's recommending sharpness at 0 but it just looks really blurry to me, playing FFXV. When playing everybodys gone the rapture in game mode I had to turn it up to like 40-50 also since it was sooo blurry. Do I just have weird vision?
