KS8000 settings for gaming at 4k/HDR

Anybody connect Bluetooth headphones to their TV? Does it support 5.1 or 7.1 passthrough from HDMI?

Do you mean via ARC? I have my ps4 pro and TiVo connected directly to my tv then back to my receiver and get 5.1 Dolby or DTS fine. Just need to fiddle with the settings so they match I.e. Select Bitstream and Dolby on ps4 then select bitstream and Dolby in the Samsung tv audio settings.

Only issue I've had is when I put a Blu-ray on it changes to linear pcm and i lose surround sound, but i think that's a ps4 issue not the tv.
Update on the above: just a seem to have to select DTS or Dolby on the PS4 depending on what the film is encoded in.

Is there a difference between UE55KS7000SXXN and UE55KS7000SXX

Most likely nothing, maybe just coded differently in different places. The S before the xx is for Silver, don't think there are many variations otherwise, if there are it will be just something minor and cosmetic.

Huh, so I randomly noticed on the main screen of Uncharted 4 Multiplayer, if I have the picture mode set to movie and don't have game mode enabled, it actually blurs details in the mountain in the background and other areas on the screen, and when Game mode is on, those areas are clear. How does that make sense ? I'm seeing kind of blurry picture quality a lot actually and that's with sharpness even turned up. It's like textures that should be crisp have a slight vaseline over them. Is that supposed to be like that ? Using UC4 as an example again, in the story mode, stone that should look hard and clear often looks smooth and blurred and I don't know why that's a thing.

Oh, and is there a fix for flickering in motion that I think people called strobing ? I put on Vanishing of Ethan Carter on PS4 Pro and it looks terrible. Every time you move the camera, every tree and plant or bush has subtle flickers and it's really awful looking.

When game mode isn't enabled do you have Digital Clean View on? Don't think it works well with games. Turning the sharpness down might help the flickering, it will be more obvious on older games because antialiasing etc. Isn't as good.

I tried with clean view on and off. Clean view seems bad for newer/Pro games or games at 4k, but on games like Ethan Carter or older titles the clean view helps with some of the shimmering (and there's a lot). Also I tried sharpness from 100 to 0 and the flickering of trees/ shimmering in motion didn't change much. I'm finding in general, game mode or anything without auto motion enabled is making everything flicker when the camera moves. Even in Uncharted 4, in game mode or with auto motion off, you rotate the camera slowly and every piece of grass or tree or object subtly flickers.

Has anyone who purchased directly from Samsung exchanged a set with them? I'm curious if there's better quality control with the replacement sets. It took me three months and a botched repair to finally get an opportunity to get an exchange or refund, and I really don't want to start the whole process over again if I can avoid it so I'm tempted to take the refund. That said, if I knew I was getting a good panel then I will just opt for the exchange.

Just ordered one of these last night and getting it delivered next weekend. Anything I should be looking for in terms of defects etc. as far as quality control issues go?

Nah, I meant setting the audio channel output directly from the TV to Bluetooth, but using a headset rather than a sound bar.

Try not to get a straight up busted panel right out of the box that you have to wait three weeks to be replaced like me. :P

So I have an opportunity to get a 65" for 1200.00, it's an open box, but not one that was used in a store. Was an event display at some conference. Used for 3 days or so. It will have the full warranty and guarantees of buying one unopened...am I crazy for not taking this deal?

I'd take it. Just make sure you actually have a warranty.

Idk. Maybe that's a good deal. I'm part of the crop that used one of the perks websites to get my 55" for under $800, so that price makes me flinch, but if you can afford it I say go ahead. It's a damn good TV. But I'd probably investigate whether you can hop on someone's Perks at Work or Perkspot account if those deals are still active (no idea if they are).

So...most games have a dark black loading screen with a white loading icon (RE7 and FFXV are recent examples).

I have my KS8000 settings per Eurogamer's video, and the entire left or right side of the screen (where the tiny load icon is), lights up.

Is there any way to mitigate this effect?

What you're seeing is blooming/clouding. When I owned the KS8000, the seasons intro screens in "The Last of Us" would cause the same to happen. It is what it is with an edge lit display like this one.

Turning "Smart LED" to low or off would mitigate it, but doing so will negatively impact your blacks. It's something that's only noticeable to me during loading screens, so I keep Smart LED on high and accept the quirk.

Does anyone have any recommended picture settings for a PS3? My PS4 Pro is looking great with settings close to those in the OP but my PS3 just doesn't seem right. Or maybe I've just gotten used to looking at PS4 games that look a lot better?

I posted about this possible issue on the previous page, but I didn't have photos at the time to demonstrate it. Basically, I noticed a tiny gap, maybe 1 or 2 mm, between the black screen and the silver frame on the left side. This gap is consistent all the way down the left side. On the right side, it's flush, so it's almost like the screen isn't seated correctly, or the frame was made ever-so-slightly too wide.

I'm curious -- anyone notice something similar on their TV? Is there any precedent for this? The screen isn't popping outward at all, so I don't think it's a glue issue like the back panel gets.

I noticed this as soon as I got my tv but turns out it's just what happens with edge lit tv's. Changing the smart LED settings and turning the backlight down are the only things that have much effect. As long as it's not excessive then is normal. Get used to it after a while.

So it is a known issue that Samsung is aware of? It's disconcerting that it's still not been fixed.
I was really disappointed it wasn't rolled up into the last firmware update. There's mentions of it on every product forum with a thread on the tv, so Samsung has to be aware of the issue.

What's annoying for someone who has the wherewithal to troll around on product forums, is probably extremely baffling and frustrating to a regular human being, just wanting it to work straight out the box.

Does it actually impact the blacks that much? I turned mine to low/off which at the time seemed to make the blacks better as there was much less white column effect going on when it was a white graphic on black background.

Does it look something like this?

This is the BF1 loading screen after my TV was "repaired". The tech clearly had no idea what he was doing and even banged the back of the set several times trying to snap the plastic back on. Not sure if I should get an exchange or refund, but this is absolute shit.

That's exactly what it's supposed to look like. That's called Local Dimming and it doesn't work all that well on any edge-lit sets, including the KS8000. All edge-lit sets are going to have similar problems. The only way you can achieve "true" local dimming is with an OLED or FALD set, both much much much more expensive than the KS8000.

If the effect bothers you, you can turn it off by disabling Smart LED in the KS8000's menu. This will, of course, elevate black levels across the board but will disable local dimming.

It was nowhere near that bad before the tech "repaired" it.

I'm taking the same approach. I hate it, but ultimately I don't want to sacrifice the important image quality for less bloom on loading screens.

Still, when I finally splurge on a 4k screen for my living room (the KS8000 is for my bedroom), I'm going all out with a full-array display.

Well yours was messed up before he repaired it then. Hate to break it to you, but as others have echoed, that's how it supposed to look with smart LED enabled.

Well damn, I hate that's how it's supposed to look. The guy never even completely reconnected the back plastic to the panel so I just assumed he screwed up elsewhere.

Actually you can't fully disable local dimming on the KS8000. Probably can via the service menu but I wouldn't recommend it.

Mine's like 10% of that. So no it's not what it's supposed to look like.

Edit: well I use Smart Led on low so maybe that's why?

Sorry for the bump. It would be fantastic if a few folks could look at their screens and see if they notice the same gap. It's not the back panel issue that many have described. Rather, there's a tiny horizontal gap when the TV is viewed straight-on.

Hoping somebody can help me out here.

Ive noticed an issue where a bright or light colored surface on an otherwise dark scene almost creates a light source-like bloom.

I noticed it in the Witcher 3 with Regis.

This is not from my tv but in a scene like this, his face would produce a blooming effect around his head. What setting should I be fiddling with to eliminate this

I had the same blooming issues a lot of you are posting and it ultimately led to me returning the TV. I went through two KS8000s before I gave up and decided to get a refund. The blooming becomes unbearable when watching an HDR movie or playing any game that is dark like Until Dawn.

The blooming is just a part of LED television tech. It's worse on edge-lit sets like the KS8000 though even FALD sets suffer from it. Plasma/OLED is the way to avoid it completely but I don't feel my set has much of a problem with it.

Backlight: 7
Smart LED: Low

With these settings I almost never notice the blooming from a normal seating position. I also do not watch TV in the dark and utilize bias lighting behind my set. If I get up and look down on the set or from the sides it is more noticeable but that's not an issue for me. I can live with this flaw more than others.

If it really bothers you your best bet is to spend twice as much for an OLED set.

I noticed this too, pretty sure it's more to do with the game's graphics though and not the tv. Was much worse for me when I had the in game gamma settings too high so try checking that. Also try -1 on the tv gamma settings, I use that for everything now. Peru much eliminated it when I turned the in game gamma down though.

Check the ps4 rgb mode ties in with the tv settings also. So you either want the ps4 rgb set to limited, with the tv HDMI black level set to low OR the Ps4 rgb set to full and the tv HDMI black level set to normal. If this is wrong it may have caused crushed blacks and in turn caused you to set the in game gamma too high.

It's even both sides on mine, but a tiny gap still. Looks like a manufacturing issue on yours.

What settings are you using on the TV for Backlight and Smart LED?

Probably the latter, but would keep the sharpness low. Imagine dynamic contrast could help a lot on ps3 if you don't use that.

You can easily see this problem with rtings local dimming video test. If you use it, Smart LED compounds this issue, but disabling it means you sort of lose out on darker blacks and whiter whites unfortunately. OLEDs are probably what you are looking for if you do not want to encounter this issue. Full array TVs should also do better, though I've never owned one to know how much better.

Is anyone using headphones with this TV? Living in an apartment right now so I'd like to keep the sound levels reasonable and trying to figure out whether to grab some bluetooth headphones to pair with it or just find some kind of adapter to use a wired set.

Any recommendations on a bluetooth pair or info on what kind of adapter I could use for a wired headset?

I've noticed that whenever finger prints touch this TV screen, they basically never leave. What the hell is up with that? And what is an acceptable way to clean this damn thing safely?

Use the cloth that came with the tv. Worked fine for me.

May have already been addressed, but anyone have issues playing standard BluRays from Ps4 Pro?

Tonight was the first time I played a standard blu ray on my new PS4Pro...shows up on loading menu (so PS4Pro recognizes the disc) ...hooked up PS4Pro to my 1080p plasma HDTV and disc(movie) plays fine, but on my 65" 4K set the movie won't display says cannot find input source...check HDMI cable.....yet when I go back to the menu or play a game disc everything runs/looks great. So what gives? I tried latest firmware update on TV but that didn't fix it either. What now? Contact Samsung?

I got rid of this issue, pretty sure it's nothing to do with the smart LED as I have mine on high. Think it's to do with the lighting in the game and gamma settings. I've got Witcher 3 looking absolutely stunning on my tv now.

What are you talking about? PS4 PRO can't play bluray movies, it doesn't have the feature to be a bluray player.

I had this problem after my son touched it, the cloth included with the TV just seemed to spread the smudge around, rather than clean it off and it looked blue in certain light.

I ended up buying some Monster Screenclean (This appears to be recommended by Samsung for oily fingerprints) and that appeared to get 90% of it off and it's much less visible now. The only time I can see it now is if the sun is shining on it and I look at the screen at a certain angle.

Same issue here. I slightly dampened a microfiber cloth with water and managed to remove mine. Just be very careful as a lot of screen cleaners will take off the antiglare coating I think. Maybe put some barbed wire in front of the TV to stop it happening again.

Are you serious? It won't play standard blu rays? Not 4K. But standard 1080p HD BluRays won't work? Your wrong it worked on my 1080p Panasonic but for whatever reason my Samsung 4K tv won't recognize the output. Seems like a tv firmware problem?
