L.A. Noire news coming next month

Oh yeah, and I pretty much like everything about what I heard about the game. I'll probably buy and like it just for the effort even though the execution may be bad.

I wasn't a huge fan of the Getaway series so I dont really know what to expect from Team Bondi but that cover amazing. I cant wait to find out more.

When you interview someone, you'll need to watch their face and determine if they're lying.

Confirmed: main hero is Deckard from the future!

A game that pushes facial animation technology . Finally. I'm sick of seeing lifeless faces in high definition.(heavy rain is a big offender of this imo)

Have you seen your own face?

Holy shit. The first impressions read like Team Bondi has made my favorite videogame concept real. Awesome! :D

This came out of nowhere and is now my most wanted game! Can't wait to see first screenshots and footage.

Sounds interesting, but I'll remain skeptical.

Loving the sound of the direction they're aiming for; seems a little like a blend of Heavy Rain, Mass Effect and Shenmue (my fav game of all time!) filtered through L.A. Confidential. Hoping that this and Heavy Rain are able to find a profitable niche, Rockstar need to advertise the hell out of the game. As the industry needs more experimental games like this rather than another Generic sci-fi/wartime FPS.
So happy this game is multi-platform now :D

There's actually nothing new here that we didn't know already because of leaks and rumors, but the part about progressing "through a series of "desks" in the department, including traffic, vice and, ultimately, homicide" is new. Guess that will be one of the ways to show some kind of character progression/evolution. Sounds cool.

This is probably my most anticipated game ever, but I have my reservations until I see more of it (or play it). Concepts like these on paper sound great, but the interviewing system, as well as the crime scene investigation, may end up beying frustating and/or boring exercizes if not done properly. I do love the concept but I'll have to wait and see.

I wonder if there's any overarching plot. The summary doesn't really mention if there is. I hope it's not just a whole bunch of cases, then you're done.

I'm convinced there will be one, and I think it will be related to the Black Dhalia case. But we'll have to wait and see.

Sounds absolutely fantastic, a sandbox game with all those features in it? It might even justify the amount of time/money spent on it. Either way, glad to be excited about this game again ;)

Glad this game is coming to Xbox 360 as well but I would really like if they made a PC version, guess it will probably come like 6 months after release :(

I'm not trying to troll, but, is anyone else a bit more worried than before about how the quality of this game will end up now because it's going to be multi-platform?

I've noticed exclusive games in this generation generally ending up to be better critically-accepted games, and multi-platform games are usually missing pieces of content and re-releasing as DLC, or having stuff cut out, or having unequal versions among the platforms.

My favorite games this gen are exclusive, and I suppose because of the extra focus on one console, one target, and a close bond/funding with their respective console's company, it really tends to drive quality, as far as I see.

Like I said, just honestly asking if this was a concern of anyone else's?

I mean I really should be concerned for other reasons, such as its long development cycle and the fact that we haven't seen any gameplay yet. But this is a factor as well for me.

Of course they are connected. It's a noir. And I will bet 100 buck the mastermind is the good guy major/police chief you meet in the beginning.

However this game will not sell. I have said many times 50s don't sell.

Bioshock didn't sell...?

It does sound cool...but wasn't that the same thing you do in the first Police Quest game? I seem to recall being promoted to narcotics and then homicide in that game too.

It really depends on the developer and publisher. In this case, we're not even sure what engine they're using to make L.A Noire. If it was RAGE, I'd be less worried as they used that in GTAIV. If it was a new engine? Hmm...

Nowhere close to the authentic 50s. Many of the BioShock steanpunk designs are from Jules Vernes era (pre-20th century).

?

The only things 'steam punk' were the Big Daddies, and even then they were more adaptations of existing dive equipment. Everything else was based purely on marine technology and 50s deco/kitsch/modernism.

And I must ask, have you ever heard of the game Fallout 3?

I'd be surprised if it was running on RAGE. This game was in development for several years as a PS3 exclusive because Sony was the publisher initially.

It's not completely out of the realm of possibility, but I think both versions will be well optimised; also, if McNamara's history is anything to go by, he won't want to make his game any less great than his vision.

The game is set in 1947, so 40's. ;P

No. If the game is crap it certainly isn't because it's now multiplatform.

You know what I meant. Post-WW2, communism paranoia, black-and-white, ugly American car roaming, where people were still guided by the pre-war morale...era.

There is no popular 50's property besides James Ellroy novels. It rings right up there with WWI for the people don't give a shit time period.

This is a ridiculous argument and you should feel bad for making it.

No popular 1940s properties? How about the fucking Godfather (post-war 1945) or the Shawshank Redemption (1947). How early Cold War paranoia, the early days of the CIA (officially formed in 1947), almost every film noir and noir novel (1942 - early 1950s).

The setting alone makes me excited for the game.

I guess the Agent will use Rage , but this game was in development years before Rockstar pick it , it will be crazy for them to redo the entire thing on a different engine just because Rockstar is the publisher now.

The 40's post WW2 era might not be dudebro: explosion material but for any fan of detective/noir films this is a dream come true.
Yeah, glad they seem to have stayed with the concept. Probably the game I'm most looking forward to. Again.

I wish i could find this magazine where i live. I'm dying to read the full article. Does anyone know if Game Informer got an exclusive preview, or are the online media going to follow soon?

GI only, peons are not allowed to see it until next week.

oh my god the investigation thing is pretty much exactly like my wishful thinking idea when this game was first announced to be what it was

Super fucking hyped now

Well, I'm not too concerned about the shift to multiplatform destroying the game because I have the magazine here, and it is not impressing me at all visually. It reminds me very much of what I remember of The Getaway. Pockets of impressive detail in square corridors and zoned streets. Generally flat lighting but with perhaps the ability to do nice highlighting in the dark. (A dingy interrogation room on page 51 looks good; a nighttime alley with cops and flashlights on 52 looks weak.) Repeated textures with little decaling or other random detail to break up long surfaces and structures. Stocky characters with decent detailing in the face. Some effects work but not any one thing that knocks you over (in stills, at least.)

I'm not declaring anything about its quality, and I am still very interested in the facial expressions and other techniques going into the game (I'm also glad it's not just GTA 1940s, out of 10 shots only two pictures have guys with guns, neither of them shooting at anybody.) But if people are expecting this game to have instant killer app written all over it because it's been in development so long and was for a while there was assumed to be a showcase title for what only PS3 could do, I think I would set your expectation levels down a peg or two now or else you'll find yourself whiplashed by the hype.

If they can pull this off, it'll be pretty brilliant.

This sounds incredible.

What does the Getaway Series have to do with it?

Also why are people surprised about the game being multi-platform? I thought Rockstar only said AGENT was a ps3 exclusive.
