Lady Gaga JUDAS Hype Thread [It'll be better this time, promise!]

Judas is definitely far better than Born This Way. Neither match any songs from The Fame Monster, though. Let's hope she pulls out some better singles.

I just didn't find the "I was born this wuuuh-hey...I was born this wuuuh-hey," garbage very catchy at all. Just annoying.
More the chorus bit. Over, and over, and over. "I'm beautiful in my way.."

That said, I still enjoy the song.

Damn, neither of these are as good as tracks from The Fame Monster, which I didn't think was as good as The Fame.

Disappointing career downturn for sure.

You may not like them but as far as her career they are doing amazingly well.

But the Fame has so much filler junk on it :P Fame Monster was leagues ahead, imo.

Finally got my self a good copy of the track, Holy shit its great, can't wait to here this in a club,.

Gaga is back!

I think the backlash is twofold.

First, as many people argue, it is that Gaga is trying to create so much hype by getting crazier each day, using the social media to its fullest potential, trying to create controversies like Madonna did (about religion), ... that it's impossible for her music, which is "just pop", to deliver on it.

Second, which I find more perplexing considering it is "just pop", is that there seems to be some revisionist history on what Gaga has accomplished before Born This Way. Especially in regards to the Monster album. If I read people's posts, it sounds like that album is a timeless masterpiece. But when I look at the tracklisting, I see Bad Romance, Alejandro, Monster and Telephone as good songs. Bad Romance is a fantastic song, but it still is just 4 great songs. Just because it's an 8-song album, which gives it a 50/50 on good/bad songs, doesn't make it extraordinary in my book. I know lots of pop albums that have 4 songs that I like. As for the Fame album, the singles were great, but the album is full of Mandy Moore bubblegum pop as well, that I think many people hate.

I'm not saying all of this to be negative about Gaga's music. On the contrary. I don't know how people expect Gaga to deliver on the hype of BTW and want it to be a "typical awesome Lady Gaga song/album", while the woman herself doesn't even know what that means: her career basically consists of 20 songs total. People tend to forget that, and it's as if they're talking about Madonna or David Bowie when comparing new work to previous work. You can't deduct what Gaga's music is or should be, going from such a short discography. Also, as her previous outings are being heralded as the apex of pop music by most people, it seems that no song released now could ever be good enough for people's expectations. Fuck that! BTW is a giant turd the likes of the filler tracks on Fame, but I like Judas, and it fits perfectly between the better outings of both the Fame and Monster.

This is all a big "imho" off course.

Kinda how I feel.
The Fame was VERY hit and miss, much of it was throwaway aside from the singles, imo. The Fame Monster was certainly better. I don't mind listening to it all the way through. Loved Born This Way - I'm a sucker for a 'huge' sounding pop song - and Judas to me just feels like more refined and confident version of stuff on the Fame Monster. Love it.

I find her fascinating - I can't figure out whether she's just acting a 'character' and adopting the persona all the time, even in interviews, or just using the Lady Gaga name for herself as a performer. Probably totally over-reading into it, but all part of the fun. I really don't what to know - I love pop stars who remain mysterious.

That Gawker link - sounds like a rare moment she lost control in an interview and snapped. The guy sounded like a bit of a dickhead - "After all, you're not stupid..." The "god gave me this song!" thing was too much.

Take it to the Kobe thread :P You'll be told that words have evolved.

Eh, bad move on her behalf. She sounds so dramatic and annoying in those quotes. It's not like she's said something horribly wrong, but it definitely throws some of my respect for her up in the air.

She has usually never said anything negative. I know everyone thinks I am defending her all the time but just think how many times she's been asked this question. >_>

whats wrong with that?
retarded is an inherently negative word, gay is not

I get what you mean, but it's better to use "stupid" if you just want to use a word that's inherently negative for safety. Retarded is a medical term used to classify people with mental retardation. So yeah, stupid =/= retarded. But let's go to the Kobe Bryant thread with this, I hear they're having a blast over there!

Part of the job.

By now she should've just come up with a standard answer that's gracious and neutral on the subject. Like say:

"I get that question a lot. I try to make my own music, but I consciously and subconsciously take inspiration from the music I grew up with. I greatly respect Madonna (note: sucking up is crucial when giving standard answers), and my work is undoubtedly being influenced by hers, just as my music is influenced by *list of musicians that are more respected than Madonna because it's not 'cool' to like Madonna, say David Bowie, Dylan, Springsteen and the Beatles*. With Born This Way I personally wanted to bring homage to *obscure artist to show that you know your music history* but I understand why people see similarities with Madonna's work. The song is about self empowerment and being who you want to be. A theme that appears in many of her songs."

Tadaaa. If I read that, I would immediately know it's a bullshit answer, but denying the Madonna influence is even more bullshit and just makes you look bad. With a standard "I respect other artists" bullshit answer you just take the wind out of the sails of reporters to hammer down on the issue. Playing nice is just not interesting for them.

She shoulda known saying that was gonna bite her in the ass. Journalists in those industries always wanna exploit quotes like that. She coulda used a better word, though.

I lol'd when they said they were up till 5 AM editing Gagavision. Hire me Gaga! I'll do it in about 5 minutes, for FREE!

"Weird Al" Yankovic (Who I didn't know was still around) did a parody of Born This Way, but Gaga isn't allowing it on his next album, so he put it up on YouTube. I loved Weird Al as a kid, and this song made me laugh my ass off.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUxXKfQkswE
I'm surprised she didn't let him, I don't know why though. She should be flattered that Weird Al parodied one of her songs. Also, all of the profits from the song were supposed to go to the Human Rights Campaign.

Here's his blog post about talking to Gaga about trying to get it approved: The Gaga Saga. That whole "needing to hear it" thing is a pretty stuck-up thing to do, in my opinion.

Very disappointed that she said that, even though the interviewer seemed like an asshole.

Though it speaks (sad) volumes that the majority of the negative press is directed at how it's bad because she said it, instead of how it's bad because it is simply an awful thing to say.

Truth. Most people I know who avoid using that word do it because they know I'd call them out on it, not because it's just the wrong word to say.

And this is after saying that she "got Madonna's blessing to release Born This Way" on Jay Leno and a day later Madonna's publicist saying "no she didn't" - hahahaha.
Oh god gaga.. say it ain't so..

she's crumbling before our eyes at this point

She makes herself look terrible with those quotes.

IMO, this part in particular is especially bad:

Just because I'm the first f**king artist in 25 years to think of putting it on Top 40 radio, it doesn't mean I'm a plagiarist. It means I'm f**king smart. Sorry.

So MJ isn't too good for Weird Al, but Gaga is? Come on.

I'm a fan of a lot of her music, but her recent prima-donna antics are starting to bug me.

I just read the big blog he posted, didn't check the vid.

So she's changed her mind and approved it now? haha. Even if she's just covering her ass, it's great news on Al's behalf. He's always seemed like an awesome guy.

I finally gave this a listen along with born this way... I really liked the fame monster, but what the hell happened? I'm really not liking either of these =/

So she lies about Madonna's blessing, and now (seemingly) lies about saying no to Weird Al.

Me thinks there are many more lies still left to uncover about her music and image...

Did Gaga solicit Madonna's OK or did her people send a supportive email?

Lady Gaga has revealed that Madonna has given the 'Bad Romance' hitmaker's new single, 'Born This Way,' her blessing.

Gaga has recently received harsh criticism for the track since its release last Friday, with many saying it's too reminiscent of Madonna's 1989 hit 'Express Yourself.'

In an interview with Jay Leno last night, Gaga said, "The good news is I got an email from her people sending me their love and support on behalf of the single. And if the queen says it shall be, then it shall be."

Lady Gaga, who has always professed her admiration for Madonna, also responded to the criticism: "You know, there is really no one that is a more adoring and loving Madonna fan than me. I am the hugest fan, personally and professionally."

Gaga added that she wanted a specific vibe for 'Born This Way,' one that would help express more of a dance party feel. "The freedom in the song, the R&B, early '90s vibe that it has, it's so full of love and spirit, and I think that it's the spirit that people are reacting to the most. I just want everyone to rejoice and celebrate and be unafraid to be happy. It doesn't always have to be so dark. It doesn't always have to be so sexy. Sometimes it's wonderful just to celebrate life and kind of go to church with it."

The single is currently No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

I thought it was weird she wouldn't approve something like that, but allow the ridiculous - and awesome - Cartman Poker Face remix, which also ended up on Rock Band (are those choices approved by her?) Either way, I'm not a fan of his stuff but Al seems like a real cool guy so its good to see he got approval to do it. Can't wait to see the video.

monotone verses --> catchy chorus --> moaning

This is pretty formulaic for her and I like Fame Monster quite a bit.

Saw her last night in Nashville. Biggest boner deflation ever when her second encore was Born This Way and then the lights came on and fucking Judas played as we were leaving (not a performance, just the song on the speakers).

What the fuck, Gaga. I actually really like Judas.

I know! People started dancing and everything and then the cover or whatever for Judas was projected on the stage... and we left.

I was pissed, but it was one hell of a show so I can't complain too much.
