Larry Hryb (major Nelson) is leaving Xbox

The wrong person. Is leaving.

Good for him, I wonder where he'll end up?

Wild seeing so many people bash him, I thought folks still liked the guy. I remember seeing people repeatedly praise him back in the day. At one point he almost felt like the Reggie of Xbox.

Like him or not, Major Nelson was a big part of Xbox. It won't be the same without him. Many memories of him with his videos, podcasts, appearances at xbox launches and such. He always had a flair for the brand and promoting it. I wonder who will take his place and will they be able to last as long and do the many things he did accomplish. Will always remember when he traveled to visit Boogie2988 aka Francis an internet youtube gamer personality. It was after Boogie had ranted about the Xbox Ones initial DRM and online policies. He took his own Xbox One and went to his home and they made the video of him and Boogie using the new console and reviewing its features and games. Classic video and showed a side of Larry that makes you wonder how many other suites or execs would have actually done that. As I said, like him or not, Major Nelson leaving is a big loss for Xbox. Period. Won't be the same without him. Best of luck mate and its been a long wild ride.
So many people moving on and leaving positions as of late it seems. Just saw an article where another Playground games employee is leaving as well. One of the writers for Fable if I remember correctly. The part of life where people come and go it seems. Sucks to see it happen so much lately. Just my feelings on this is all.

Good luck to him. I don't think he's really been needed since the late 360 days, in my opinion. But he was a big part of making Xbox Live for the 360 era a massively social thing.

Larry's been great but I do think it's time for a changing of the guard from a branding standpoint.

His "old business-y looking guy" vibe just doesn't mesh with the Xbox brand any more.

I wish him the best though. He's gotten a lot of undue shit from the public.

It would be nice if Microsoft Xbox were actually cleaning up the upper management who enable the toxic influencers in their fanbase, and console-warring toxicity in general. So Hryb leaving is a good start. Best of luck to him.

Very much hoping Aaron Greenberg announces his retirement next. He's the worst offender IMHO.

Wish I could get a job where I did nothing for most of the time and got paid.

Willing to get a sex change, breast implants and a partnered Twitch account?

man was just promoted a couple of months ago

Came to post his, Major Nelson is part of the history of XBOX, I believe Greenberg is now the only one remaining from the OG XBOX era

And he needs to go. All the good upper management that gave Xbox a soul left right about or shortly before the Kinect. Seamus Blackley, J Allard, Peter Moore etc. were the real guts of the brand.

man was just promoted a couple of months ago

Please don't remind me 😭

I like Phil and Bonnie. Greenberg on the other hand can pound sand.

Phil's almost as bad as Aaron IMO. Where Aaron's just an outright troll and instigator, Phil dresses his up in "pro-consumer" PR talk. Bonnie was just completely incompetent at her own job.

Aaron is garbage but at least he's "good" at doing his job. Phil is condescending & disingenuous, but again, he actually does his job more or less.

Bonnie outright failed.

Another console warrior. Anyone remembers his console war articles on PS3 vs 360?

Well, he's been around for a while. I was honestly a bit surprised he didn't leave way before the Series X/S launched. Greenberg up next?

Fair play to the bloke, he did his job and can now do want he wants.

Some of you lot are way too emotionally invested in this videogames malarkey...did he murder your first-born or something???

To me he seemed to be a guy who is a genuine gamer and passionate about gaming.
I just didn't think he was very charismatic or good in that role.
When Xbox tanked, I felt sorry for him having to promote and be positive about a failing brand.
Imagine, as a gamer, having to be positive about the monthly Games with Gold games, knowing they're trash. Ugh, don't think I could do it, I probably would have had to quit.
But quitting as a 60 something year old community manager? Not a lot of opportunities in that field for old folk I'm thinking. May as well just push on to retirement right?

I doubt he got fired, he chose to leave. I actually thought he was good for xbox overall, especially in the early xbox and 360 days. He connected with the community and that wasn't something anyone did at a certain time.

Are you high or something?

The interview with Angry Joe kinda ruined his rep lol. The Xbone was a disaster from the moment it was revealed.
I just rewatched it and yes it is bad and he comes across as quite aggressive.

I'm grateful to any interviewer that asks hard hitting questions but Joe's weren't very refined as he kept framing everything in an overtly negative way. A more mature interview would have asked the 'fuck you' questions to the right person (not a fluff PR man for technical questions) and in the right way.
