Larry Hryb (major Nelson) is leaving Xbox

One of the worst, hypocritical, highly unlikeable PR mouthpieces in the history of gaming PR bullshit.
The real question is : why and how the fuck he lasted that long at MS/xbox, he always was the equivalent of the "how you doin' fellow kids" meme.

Having talked with him a couple of times in person and while gaming I can't argue with you

Why are people so angry at Phil? He made Microsoft focus on PC gaming again.
I don't know…because he has been in charge of the brand for over 10 years and hasn't moved the needle in terms of marketshare. He has been an absolute failure in getting system selling high quality exclusive first party games, while the competition puts out multiple AAA exclusives each year.

It's not hard to figure out.

To me he seemed to be a guy who is a genuine gamer and passionate about gaming.
I just didn't think he was very charismatic or good in that role.
When Xbox tanked, I felt sorry for him having to promote and be positive about a failing brand.
Imagine, as a gamer, having to be positive about the monthly Games with Gold games, knowing they're trash. Ugh, don't think I could do it, I probably would have had to quit.
But quitting as a 60 something year old community manager? Not a lot of opportunities in that field for old folk I'm thinking. May as well just push on to retirement right?

Well, there's a lot of people doing that kind of job for all kinds of brands and businesses around the world. I guess they detach themselves from reality to some extent and put the corporate mask on. Even Reggie Fils-Aime was playing that game during the Wii U era. It's a bit painful today to look at the interviews with him during that time.

I just rewatched it and yes it is bad and he comes across as quite aggressive.

I'm grateful to any interviewer that asks hard hitting questions but Joe's weren't very refined as he kept framing everything in an overtly negative way. A more mature interview would have asked the 'fuck you' questions to the right person (not a fluff PR man for technical questions) and in the right way.
Angry Joe was very clear afterwards, though, that he liked Major Nelson and didn't think he was treated badly in any way.

Heis, you know brother when people say not to judge people by their looks ? Except when you absolutely can and should - this guy looks (and most probably is) like the office snitch, the guy that always talks shit behind your back but does a 180 when confronted, he looks like the nerdy, outcast snitch kid at school, he looks like the guy that talks big but has a micro penis, he looks like...you get the idea.
also, I always found his mannerisms to be weird (to say the least), dude had this creepy quality about him.

He always, always looked like a soulless company shill devoid of any charisma and personality, I seriously can't understand how these kind of people get PR positions that have to also interconnect and interact with a fan base and/or customers.

Dude always looked like my elderly neighbor before even getting old - at least my neighbor wasn't a complete charisma black hole.

Used to watch him often in the 360 days when there were a lot fewer sources for this type of information. Congrats to him, he had a gamer's dream job to be sure.

He's been associated with a lot less content since the series launch, so a bit expected.

I don't blame him. He had a kid a few years ago and when they hit that elementary age, that's when you realize you are missing them as they grow up. I liked the original group on his podcast with E and Stepto.

Wish I could get a job where I did nothing for most of the time and got paid.
He wasn't happy, you could see him in many videos before actual recording, you shouldn't assume these jobs makes people happy, people would rather give actual effort cause it feels natural, authentic and rewarding, you can't go against human natural Instincts.

He certainly fits the job description

No, he is not original, I despise people who most of their talk filled with recyclable words which eliminates 90 percent of youtubers, you can't assume yters representing the majority of the community.

Eh, never really had an impact for me. Could barely get through his videos and Xbox game announcements on the console, but hey he had a long career and I'm sure there are those who appreciated his work. Best of luck to him in his new endeavor.

Never forget... :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Comment From Joe
Hi Larry. There seems to be some confusion in the media on how frequently users must connect to the internet to use the Xbox One. Will this be as frequent as once a day as rumored or will we be able to use the console for extended periods of time without an active connection? Thank you.

Major Nelson
Answer: No. It does not have to be always connected but it does require an internet connection.

Thank God, who the helo thought this guy was good at… at… whatever the fuck he was doing there?

Since the early Xbox days I always though he looked like that "how do you do, fellow kids" meme.

I think MS wants to bring in some younger blood for his job so He decided to leave for Sony.

I kid,,,,,,,I kid!

If it's hard to envision Xbox without Major Nelson, it's because it's hard to envision Xbox in 2023. The brand is on the struggle bus and shows no signs of disembarking.

Back in the days of Gears 1 and Halo 3 (or Halo 2) Xbox was a real brand, and Major Nelson was part of that. Today, it doesn't have that hard-hitting exclusive AAA IP that demands you go out and buy a console, but it also doesn't really have the Xbox lifestyle, as cringe as the term may be, surrounding it.
