last game you gave up on

RDR2 Online. It's an utter dumpster fire of buggy bullshit where even accepting a mission is a coin toss on whether or not the mission will even appear or if you'll even get any XP. And then there's the camp mechanic where if you try to spawn your camp from the menu it'll just keep blinking for 30 seconds and then tell you to try again. How in the fuck rockstar make so much money off of their garbage online modes is a mystery to me.

I might give up on Gears 5 because shit is so mediocre so far. The hub-world has to be the most bland I've seen in forever. But I'll probably beat it because I'm a champ.

Sekiro, stopped at the snowy monkey guy.
My biggest tip with that guy in his first phase use Firecracker and oil+fire which give you opening for some damage. When he goes for jump grape, jump backwards, don't not try doge step because it doesn't work with grape attacks. His second phase is much easier, you can deflect most his attack and run away when he screams to avoid his terror attacks.

Lord of the Rings: Aragorns Quest on PS3. Got myself in a middle earth mood and wanted a game. Its pretty trash but it was scratching the itch regardless so I put a good amount of hours in to it. Eventually though, I could no longer ignore look how bad it was and dropped it.

Vampyr. Like some sort of dribbling idiot I decided to play on hard despite there being no benefit to do so. It was a struggle but I got to the end. I was level 40-ish and every enemy was under me in level. Boom, last boss is over lvl50 and at the point I'm at it's literally impossible to level up any more so I'm fucked. This game's level system is utter trash and I can't be bothered dealing with it anymore.
I gave up on that, too, after about 18 hours. I did evil shit constantly and reduced every area to chaos. It made the game ridiculous so I moved on.

Shadow of War.

It was basically the first game, but with microtransactions shoehorned in. Even when they removed the loot boxes (which is when I finally bought it), it still felt like Shadow of Mordor 1.5.

Alien Isolation. Started off great and then went on way, way, way too long. After a while I realised the game had become a monotonous chore and I had no desire to see the ending.

Yep.

Once you get the flamethrower the xenomorph becomes more of a nuisance than an actual threat. Up until that point, I thought the game was terrifying. Well, okay, the androids were annoying and I wish they'd only made some of them hostile by default. The game should've ended when Amanda spaced the creature and jumped into the suit to get back to the station.

Dragon Quest VII 3DS.

I think I'm close to being halfway done. I just don't really find it compelling.

Maybe someday I'll go back and finish it.

The division 2 - I can't really pinpoint exactly what I dislike about the game. Its just boring and felt like it lacked any substance or soul.

Gears of war 5 - The main protagonist makes me want to go paint a wall.

Same game for me. I love the mechanics, but when they first released the raid and it did not have match making, the rest of the game grew boring essentially overnight.

I might add RDR2. Around the same time I just lost interest in playing it. Not even sure why. But I do plan to finish that someday.

Metro Exodus.

Dug the first two. Got about 6-8 hours into Exodus, and I couldnt do it any more. I realized I was forcing myself top play it.

I dont remember ever giving up on a game. Maybe stopped playing for some reason and forgot to pick it up again, but never intentionally quit.

Someone doest know the Inverted Song of Time.
Ya, that definitely helps. The first time (circa 2000) I had no idea about it, but the last couple times, ya. I just can't get into the gameplay loop.

The game is too much of a chore for me. I get why people like it, it's just not for me - probably my least favorite mainline console Zelda.

Gave up on Gravity Rush 2. Just wasn't feeling it.

I do this with practically every game I play. Part of it is because I do mostly multiplayer gaming so a game is never really "done", but the singleplayer stuff I play rarely holds my interest until the end.

It is easier to list games I finished. GTA5 and the new Prey are the only two that come to mind.

Ori. When games waste my time just trying to figure out where to go they get tossed.

I tend to be very careful of buying a game of interest, that I try to finish the game (at least run thru the main portion) - but there are a few that I've given up.

The last one was Gravity Rush on Vita. I just couldn't get used to the control scheme, that had a hard time fighting off enemies in early-mid game. I really liked the premise of the game... but had to give up due to frustration. So much so, I gave up buying PS4 versions... as I would feel more comfortable playing on larger screen, but just couldn't convince myself of a game that I might not be able to finish. :(

I wouldn't bother. It's an okay game but if you're halfway done as you say--the game usually clocks in at a few hundo hours for most people--you're not going to suddenly start enjoying it.

The Last of Us. I got past that room with all the Clickers near the beginning of the game after forever, then got outside and couldn't get past the clickers there. I don't game much anymore. Hoping I'm just missing something but it just frustrated the hell out of me. Shame really because I wanted to play through.

Getting close with Ancestors Odyssey...... brilliant concept/graphics/sound........ WORST controls/UI of any time in the last 10 fucking years.

Holy shit there's a hidden gem behind this cluster fuck of a control scheme that's too frustrating to work through. I'd like to believe otherwise, game is not fun :-(

Original Deus-Ex. But I think I'll have to play just for a cultural background
Are you playing the vanilla version or Revision? Revision might be more appealing for people new to the game. It's free on Steam. Worth checking out.

Last game I gave up on was Green Hell. It felt like an inferior version of The Forest with A LOT more dying. I have a backlog of shit to play and didn't have the patience to get past the game's initial learning curve.

You're just playing it the wrong way, you can't rush through those starting bits, they are easy once you get a grasp on those clickers. It's not a game where you just shoot your way through, It's a survival. The game really is phenomenal, its the only game i played and finished twice, once on PS3 and then the remastered on PS4 and that's saying something because I generally don't finish games, I'm a quitter.

Two recent ones.

Pillars of Eternity - I think it's a good game and has an interesting world and lore to explore. But for some reason I couldn't be arsed to finish it. Maybe isometric RPG's aren't appealing to me anymore and the interface just to old school for me.

Divinity Original Sin 2 - Now don't get me wrong. I think Original Sin 2 is a fantastic game and definitely a big step forward for isometric rpgs. But alas, some newer games caught my interest more and some of the games' annoying issues kept me from playing it further.

All of the Just Cause games. I see webms of people doing really funny things or interesting stunts so I get sucked in and pick it up.

Then when I play it I just get bored quick. It gives you this big wide explodey world and says "just go nuts." But that's only so compelling after a short while. You've seen one explosions you've seen in a thousand times.

I understand why some people love a cathartic explode 'em up, but it just feels laborious to me. I'd rather spend that time in Factorio.

Borderlands 3, loved the first 2 when they first came out - but I just couldn't get into this. It feels bland, floaty, story missions are literally all go and get A and bring it back here.

They were talking about it on Giant Bomb and summarised it best when they said the game almost gets 'better', when you find a gun that 'breaks the game'. This is not the sign of a good game to me.

Usually it is not as much as giving up but losing interest near the end when you have all equipment, upgrades, stats etc but the last one that made me go "fuck this" was
Druidstone: The Secret of the Menhir Forest
Fantasy rpg with xcom type combat. Should be fine for RPG and XCOM fan right?

I believe I had over 50% of the game done when I ran into a timed mission. The game had one at the start and that almost made me give up but then I grinded through it and liked the rest of the game. Until I ran into this mission which had library full of enemies and I was supposed to find just some item there in certain time limit.

It pissed me off, I couldn't deal with the enemies through careful planning and tactics at my own pace. Instead I was expected to deal with it in a specific way devs came up with that probably would've required re-speccing some character abilities and tuning their equipment. All that hassle for one mission.

You know, a game I SHOULD have given up on is Resident Evil 5. I played it on Professional mode solo, and Sheva's AI was simply not equipped for that shit. She was the one dying for the most part so I just spent the whole damn time trying to wrangle her so she doesn't get her dumb ass killed. I imagine it was like handling a toddler.... While in a pit of laser Nazi snakes.

Apex Legends. I was deeply in it, "doing pretty good". But then I started to realize it made me feel frustrated, empty and depressed. Best decision I've made lately btw, it really made a tangible difference.

Think it's got to be The Division 2 for me. I played a good three to four hours and I could not bring myself to continue forward. I wasnt having any fun one bit. A shame too as I quite enjoyed the first and have always been fond of the Tom Clancy brand.
Me too. Granted, I played more than four hours, but still.

That would have to be RDR2 for me. God, that game is so damn boring and the controls don't help either.

At least I have a PS4 now to play better games.

I am playing vanilla with enhanced graphics (not replaced models, but hi-res textures). I think I'll finish it eventually, but i get tired after 1-2 hours of gaming session

I really wanted to like Cross Code. Really. I love the characters, and the combat is good. But the world is bad-MMO levels of uninteresting, the game showers you with optional "get me 10 bear asses" sidequests, there's a lot of backtracking, the dungeons go on and on and on and the pace is generally all over the place.

I was 10h in and I couldnt bear the thought of playing for 30 more

The Surge 2

I love souls like games, but idk, the surge never really interested me, and the sequel, although having some good ideas, it wasn't enough to make want to continue, and the pc port has some really big performance issues that need to be solved, so im glad i tried the game through steam family share, i ended up not wasting money in it.
