It doesn't even approximate the visuals of the average 360 (read: not FCK) game -- hell, with the lack of shader support, it doesn't even approximate the average Xbox game.

"mouse-like precision"? I have a fuckin' 4400x2 with 4GB RAM and 2x7800GTX in SLI mode -- if for some reason I demand something better than dual analog precision for my FPS experience, I'll get it on THAT rig and NOT a low-fi Gamecube Plus. Oddly, mouse-like precision didn't keep me from enjoying Halo more than any recent PC FPS. ZOMG!

Your act is old and no longer funny.

Will your dual analog or your mouse allow you to tilt the gun gangsta style? You lose.

TILT AND WAGGLE Y'ALL, WORD IS LIFE PEACE REV STYLE BITCHES

Edit: everyone keep feeding the Drinky machine with your comments like "mouse like precision."

"mouse like precision""mouse like precision.""mouse like precision.""mouse like precision.""mouse like precision.""mouse like precision.""mouse like precision.""mouse like precision.""mouse like precision."

HAHA don't lie. There is no way you would be playing the shitty port of Oblivion on your Xbox 360 if you had that system. Since Oblivion is by far the best game for 360 there's no reason to even have one if you have that PC.

I'm just wondering, did you miss the part where Nintendo said they aren't competing in a specs race? We know the Revolution is underpowered compared to 360/PS3. We also realize it is going to be much cheaper. We get it, we know it. We accept it. You don't. You don't have to. No one says you have to. Isn't it about time to move on? You were funny, like, a year ago. Every single one of your posts are the same. Why not create one sticky thread called "Wisdom of Drinky" and repeat the same post over and over. Just trying to make your life easier.

P.S. Your avatar isn't funny anymore either.

You just didn't have anything better to compare it to on consoles.

Didn't Drinky used to be a real poster? Back in the day, he'd make interesting, intelligent comments, especially in the OT forum. When did some douche take over his account and turn him into this neanderthalic HUAHUAHUAHUA poster?

Drinky is still funny.

Nintards telling him that he is not funny anymore is even more funny.
Drinky Crow really hasn't been funny since it was revealed that he is Andrew Vestal.

Maybe the GAF writers should have an episode where MAF wakes from a dream and finds Doug Erickson taking a shower. That'd get things back on the right track.

But for now I can only hope that the real Drinky sees his signal...

Well he was funny once, seriously. I laughed a lot at his posts. But lately they're just boring. It's like going to see your favourite stand up comedian for the 5th time doing the same material every single time.

And I get it, Drinky's act that is. He really does like Nintendo and the Revolution, but he finds amusement in making absurd posts and threads, because that's his job here. He gets people rilled up (not as much as he used to), makes people believe he's serious (I fall for it too), and is sometimes a nice change of pace from the usual gushing threads. He's a slice of OA whenever he posts, and the admins know this place needs that. A great forum has unique, radical, and just plain odd characters, whether they are a product of the admins or not. "Theatre of the mind" on a forum is just as important as it is on the radio.

Just wish he'd stop trying so hard and just start being funny again.

Oh God...

For one, it's 480p (and possibly 16:9) standard.
Targeting kids, all I can say is, again, GTFO.
And, you've gotta be REALLY fucking dense/materialistic/numberwhoreish/graphicswhoreish to not be able to play non HD stuff with a HDTV. I have a 50 inch HDTV. I fucking played 30+ hours of Shadow of the Colossus. It TORE GASHES IN MY EYES. It didn't make it any less incredible, not to mentioned my GOTY.

Get the fuck over it.

The DS was different. 2 screens in the palm of your hand one being a touch screen. You can see the potential for some useful gameplay application. But Revolution... is literally Gamecube with a point & click controller.

And I looked at the Red Steel images.
1st person sword fighting would be the extent of the good ideas I can think of for this thing. I suspect that we'll be seeing alot of sword fighting games on Revolution.

How about giving me a list of 10 good ideas for the Revmote controller. Right now I'm just not seeing the vision.

I didn't read the whole thing. How many bans so far?
It's been around a year that Drinky didn't had a big Nbot bait thread to purge this forum from evil.

Still, to answer it... I think it's more $$$$$ that brings innovation instead of hardware power. Super innovative games were obviously possible on PS2/XB/GC, they simply weren't risked. Next-gen isn't gonna be better than this. With costs to make a game being alot higher, publishers will take even less risk and this is going 100% against innovation. Less risk = sequels and proven formulas.
In this regard the Rev is supposed to drive more innovation that it's competitors. Games will cost shit to be made (probably around the $$$ for a PS2 project) then the risk will be ALOT lower than on the 360 and PS3.

At this point I think Drinky knows he's a caricature of his former GAF self. I don't even know what to think anymore.

But he still has the power to make bigger threads than anyone else without any actual information. :lol

che, the ds "games" everyone loves don't need the stylus

mario kart
castlevania
advance wars ds
mario and luigi 2
new super mario bros
animal crossing
tetris

even that embarrassing joke of an fps metroid prime hunters

Yeah, totally! I absolutely LOVE playing Trauma Center with the d-pad!

You can't play Trauma Center with the d-pad... wait a minute, you don't own a DS at all! You're just a big phony!

Been following the Revolution much? It is widely understood that devlopment costs are significantly lower than the other two consoles.

I agree with the general sentiment of your post, but on a small aside, they won't get FSAA "instantly" or "for free". They would if they were rendering at HD resolutions and then coming down SD - basically supersampling - but they're not, so AA will remain something they have to explicitly go about.

Actually Nintendo has a patent on some form AA that mentions "supersampling" alot, now I'm not saying it will be free, just bringing it to your attention.

Sword fighting, gun play, solving all types of puzzles in adventure games, new types of puzzle games or rebirthing old ones with more immersion like Meteos, Lumines, and Tetris, fishing, tennis, baseball, football, hockey, Super-Punchout, new types of rhythm games a la Drum Hero, casting spells in RPGs, controlling airplanes in shooters and such...

Just to name a few off the top of my head.

Now, I promised not to seriously respond in here again, but alas, I lied, to myself even.

Canada already said it, but thank fucking God you're not in a creative field, especially in gaming.

Now, I'm trying hard not to insult your intelligence, but after that comment, it's pretty damn hard.

Regardless, I'm not gonna waste more time, it will prove itself, as will the fact that you have absolutely 0 creativity, and many, many people out there do.

I saw the scans over at That Other Age and on some Ninfan's blog.

Scans aren't as good as having the magazine in your hands. The game does not look bad graphically.

And it's not like the game will look like that in November. It'll be improved.

Last gen game design? Hardly. If anyone thinks that the size of the gameworld and physics are what defines game game design, there is no hope for you. The price of advanced graphics means that indie devs for the most part cant compete with the likes of EA. Which is why XBLA > 360.

Even at NES level there is potential for new game design.

what does Red Steel offer visually that the Gamecube can't do?

good question! an attractive fps was no doubt a pleasant surprise when we all expected some graphically retarded nongame horseshit to unveil revolution, but red steel doesn't really contradict what we know about the hardware specs.

as for the "mouse-like precision," i ask again: anyone notice the GIANT crosshairs? if they mean what they must mean, it's more like sub-gamepad precision.

I did notice them. Maybe they are just there so you know where the revmote is pointing?

They are kinda big.

I think that the GI article said that the character gets more accurate as you progress through the game, so maybe the crosshair shrinks as your character becomes more skillful.

If the revmote is imprecise (which I don't think it is) Nintendo should just scrap the whole Revolution project and go back to the drawing board.

Have you ever played Call of Duty, yes or no? You didn't answer last time someone called you out.

In the final game the crosshairs will be smaller. But early in the game, it will more than likely be bigger as you play more brutally. As time progresses and you get more precise, the crosshair would get smaller.

The crosshair propably is so big because unlike with most shooters, it moves across the screen while the camera follows.
The game is about quick reaction and shooting enemies in both horizontal and vertical positions (Z-Combat called in UT). Something that Goldeneye 64 didn't do for example, that's why it worked with the controller.

game mags don't often do objective previews. but we don't need to trust anything; we'll get to play red steel soon enough. and if shots will hit anything within the bounds of those giant crosshairs, then red steel's controls are a joke, and talk of the waggle wand as an fps controller ought to be suspended.

i've played several games where the crosshairs grow and shrink based on player movement -- if that's what's happening here, then no worries.

Now you're talking about the objectivity of the preview? Lol welcome to game previews!:lol

You do know games can allow you to decide how big/small your crosshairs are too? God this is such a weak attempt at trolling. Desperation FTL.
