"Extra" has confirmed that Jay Leno's longtime bandleader and sidekick, Kevin Eubanks, is leaving "The Tonight ," as first reported by Lisa Stanley on K-EARTH 101.

A source tells "Extra" Eubanks "wanted a change" and decided to leave the show, adding that Eubanks wanted to pursue other opportunities. Another source says he will appear on the debut of the revamped "Tonight " when it returns on March 1.
In 1992, Eubanks joined "The Tonight Show" band, becoming bandleader two years later. Before he joined the show, Eubanks released numerous albums.

Eubanks was also bandleader on "The Jay Leno ."

Yes...yes it is.

It was originally a Lions logo and then made into a Yoshi for the release of Smash Bros. Brawl. I need something new. Hopefully when Conan comes back he'll give me something good.

Conan didn't lose the Tonight Show because Leno was on the network..

Zucker on Charlie Rose explicitly states that the affiliates threatening to bail on Leno's show is what 'started the whole chain of events.'

Leno staying on the network was a huge albatross around the neck of any host that took over The Tonight Show.
