Leaked off-screen trailer of Elden Ring is legit - but no one has a link

Is that the PS2 version?
Hell no bloodborne look like this

Were you recording from potato camera or what some kind of old tv?

Look like a blurry mess
It's from the original leaked Project Beast trailer. People were quick to deem the game a graphical disaster and a step back from Dark Souls back then, too.

The point is that judging the visuals of game that isn't even out yet based on low-quality second-hand snippets of trailers that were most likely never meant to be released to the public probably isn't such a great idea.

This comes from the leaks similar to Elden Ring now, back then Bloodborne was called Project beast. The trailer was never officially released and was supposed to remain internal.

My guess is that we have the same situation going on right now. It's more exciting to think about how much different Elden Ring will look like in the ACTUAL trailer.

Yo that FPS is horrendous.

Hopefully the rumors are true about an official trailer soon.

I can't say I am dissapointed but for sure I expected a bit different setting than Dark Souls series. By the look of the world (maybe beside world-tree) It looks like all Dark Souls games with it's medieval like aesthetics. I excpected some unique twist on Nordic aesthetic especially after those armour designs from first Elden Ring trailer. It is also possible that armours/designs in leaked trailer are just placeholder assets pulled straight from Dark Souls 3 (the sellsword armor for example) just for the purpose of showing the concept. I'll wait for official trailer because as far as I remember all leaked trailers from FROM games were looking super-janky and a bit out-of-place.

I still have no clue, why this shit has to be OPEN WORLD. Gonna drag, feel bad if you have to travel between different ruins, places. What if i don´t have the right weapon for the catacombs ... "ride back please & come back later!"
Also Open World kind of implies a red-line, a main quest line that player has to follow aka hand holding, and why even have an open world to traverse in a soulsgame? :Bleurgh:

In between various ruins, quest-hubs ... we will encounter endangered NPCs "screaming for help!": "HELP ME!! I WILL GIVE YOU MONIES AND A BJ! or a Quest "Escort me to the nearest Town!".

Calm down... It's not GTA style open world. Think of it as DKS1 but expanded.

I don't know. That open world concept doesn't resonate with me. Those low res early development clips don't change that obviously.

If I can't warp between areas like in all the other from software games I'm likely get bored really quickly.

Im hyped for this game but one thing disappointed me is the confirmation that there is no cities or npc, so its basically a game where you fight monsters and explore dead areas. When they said its going to be open world rpg, i thought it will have big city and villages and npcs to interact with and take quests and change the world..etc..etc. I also thought it will feature gameplay aspects other than just combat/fighting. But whatever im still hyped.
No cities and npc? That's a bummer, i was expecting a more alive world.

This will probably be a 2022 release right? If it does release this year I need to get my hands on a PS5 or XSX ASAP. Preferably the PS5 but not that important

I get what you're saying. I'd also like the world to feel dynamic, I kinda worry that'll feel empty and boring.
Yeah, like entering a mostly empty city and seeing people who get tortured or killed in brutal way, or seeing a mother who cries on the ground or some poor guy half dead starving on the street, all this stuff would help with atmosphere\immersion if dark age camelot is the vibe they are searching for.

Noone concerned that this could turn out like Arkham Knight?

You know bolting on "vehicular" transport onto a franchise that is mostly about melee combat is a tricky thing. The new stuff doesn't need to be bad to hurt the experience, its how much it gets in the way of doing the stuff you want to be doing.

Holy shit, what an amazing day this is. I've never dealt out so many "Praise the Sun" reactions in a single thread.

I've been hearing that these are all leaks from an internal trailer of build that's over a year old. Everything looks very promising. I bet the official trailer will catapult these initial impressions into the stratosphere.
  • Mounted combat looks cool. I wonder if we'll be restricted to certain weapons or if our full arsenal will be available? Imagine throwing spears or using magic from horseback.
  • I really, really hope they don't include a map in the game. Ghost of Tsushima made it clear that no map is the way to go for open world - the wind mechanic was genius! I bet the World Tree will serve as an easy landmark for orienting yourself in the world.
  • One scene shows the player entering a large cave. Do you think these are randomly littered throughout the world? I'm always down to go look for some ancient Dwarven treasure. This does look to be based on Nordic + Celtic mythology after all...
  • Nice to see that Sekiro-style stealth has returned. I hope they've adjusted AI visibility though; it was a bit janky in Sekiro.
  • It sounds like the player starts at the literal "edge of the map". Previous rumors suggest that there are multiple starting locations based on character class selection. There are supposedly 8 kingdoms to have starting allegiance to.
  • A Souls game with a jump button! I loved Sekiro's traversal and how it integrated jumping into the combat. Hopefully a dedicated jump button helps with the flow of traversal.
  • There was a clip with the player rolling through the flames spewed from a dragon overhead. The area looked very open, but close to some ruins. Could there possibly be boss encounters in the open field?
  • Another scene with what looks like a magician in room surrounded by pillars adorned with clock faces... The magician steps into a pool of water and the scenery fades to an open area with nothing but water stretching to the horizon and a large full moon. Could illusions be a special magical ability the player can acquire?
  • Graphics could be touched up, sure, but that's rarely FromSoft's priority on the visual side of things - art direction > graphics... fight me.
  • There's some obvious reuse of old assets (sellsword set from DS3, skeleton from King's Field, etc.), but that's to be expected in an internal trailer.
Oh i'm sorry i don't follow every sliver of info on a game that didn't show me anything to make interested in following it, IMO when you begin your announcement trailer with "a new world by Hidetaka Miyazaki and GRRM" you're basically telling the guy's involved in it's story.

No, I simply said the video leaked was too blurry and like 10 seconds long that shows something or someone on a horses slashing something, my whole point is that i'm fascinated by the utter madness people have for a game that they have only truly seen one gameplay-less video of and a highly blurry leaked video that shows basically nothing and just lose their shit over it because it's made by From (who people actually think they've made nothing but gold all their existence IE 2009 to some) and is directed by Miyazaki.

It's going to be funny if the actual game is the opposite of the fantasies some people have made up in their minds about it.
To be fair, you came into this thread shitting on a game that you haven't done any research on. Instead of admitting this and moving on, you end up backpedaling and get very defensive when confronted by this fact.

I believe the hype for this game is well warranted. FromSoftware has consistently gotten better and better with each game they release. It can't be considered a fluke at this point. They went from literal nobodies at the beginning of the decade to one of the most respected developers in all of gaming. Everything they have done has been building to this one game. Pretty exciting, wouldn't you agree?
He's right, though. They could broaden their horizons and make more intractable, alive worlds. Otherwise why make it open? Most Souls games are pretty open world anyway, you have hubs and can literally travel their worlds...

On second thought, it's best we don't have fetch quests where you just kill things anyway.
Miyazaki commented on this in the very first interview after the E3 2019 CGI reveal. He said that the game was quite ambitious compared to previous works (open world, working with another writer, updating traversal and combat mechanics, updated AI path finding and planning routines, integrating their level design in an open world, etc.); he stated that adding in towns would have been a bit too much for them handle so they wanted to stick to their guns.

so then whats red dead redemption's excuse
I love RDR2. It was made by Rockstar, the absolute cream of the crop of private game studios (some will disagree with me, I'm sure). Rockstar has more money than most AAA game studios combined and some country's GDPs! They have 10000s of talented engineers at their disposal. They also took 8-10 years to create RDR2. FromSoftware, a studio with probably less than 500 developers, has been developing Elden Ring for about 4 years while focusing on vastly different things gameplay-wise. I prefer FromSoftware tbh.

Looking forward to this, bros. We're in for a hell of a ride.

I'm really hyped but also sceptical of the Horse mechanic. However i was also very sceptical of it in Diablo 4 and so far it looks to be implemented quite well.

So i guess we'll see if they get it right with Elden Ring...scepticism is fine but it can turn out good too

Dude I AM a fan of Fromsoftware, BUT i also temper my expectations, their previous games were at least known and warnted the excitement because the followed the same Souls formula, Elden Ring is a different style and something they've not done before so it's uncertain how it will turn out.

Daemon X Machina was mediocre and ill designed and it was an attempt by from to evolve the Armored Core series and reach a new audience but it was just mediocre.

The trailer looks like a rather generic open world fantasy game with too much pastel colors and seriously unimpressive last-gen graphics. Yes, From were never ones to strive for technical excellence and this is still targeting last gen hardware, but I´m seriously underwhelmed by the visual fidelity here nonetheless.
And aside from the giants pulling that carriage I also barely see any "From"-genes in the artstyle. Someone could have told me that this was a modded Skyrim and I´d have had no reason to doubt that.

Ofc we´ll have to wait for more and higher res material, but at least this here is a big "meh" from me and I seriously hope that this leak is from a very early non-representative version of the game.

edit: on 2nd and 3rd glance I can see the DS genes in the animations and enemy designs...still overall very "meh".

Still thinking why did they target last gen, their fan will follow them wherever they are, they could have just targeted the new gen and people will consider it as a system seller even.

The leaked footage are too bland and really outdated, such a pity.

Private in what sense? Isn't Rockstar a subsidiary of Take-Two, which is a publicly traded company?
Private in the sense that they don't answer to Sony or Microsoft and so petty console warfare is left for others. On the other hand, they also miss out on potential bucketloads of cash and resources that come with exclusivity + partnerships. CDPR and Ubisoft would also fall under this umbrella. I think a better term to use would be "third-party".

Fair enough. Still, they have a consistent streak of success following the Souls + Sekiro + Bloodborne trail. There's a constant there. That constant is Miyazaki placed at the helm. I can understand not wanting to blindly put your faith into a single person though.

The game went through most of its development while next gen consoles had not even been announced, and "making it next gen" in the sense that it has to take full advantage of the new hardware is not like flipping a switch.

Also, as of now both PS5 and XSX have a much smaller install base than PS4 and XOne, and in a lot of countries it's still very hard (if not impossible) to buy one. So, if you release it on next-gen only let's say by the end of 2021, you're missing out on a huge number of potential sales.

I'm almost thinking it's an early/placeholder trailer or something. Because some of it looks great, and some of it looks dated. At least by the looks of the potato quality.

I really hope we get proper info about its release sooner than later.

I'm not expecting this year to be full of gang buster titles. But man, at least give us some great news, please. :(

If Bluepoint can make DeS look gorgeous then there should be no excuses for From to at least match that. Still though, I'll reserve judgement until we an official trailer release.

Elden Ring is not a next gen only game like the DS-Remake. Matching that in visual fidelity is pretty much out of the question. Graphics can be made scalable but not that scalable.

Bluepoint's job was to make a game for the new generation. Elden ring started development in the middle of last gen. I dont understand why people have a hardtime understanding this.

Modern Warfare was released in 2019 WITHOUT next gen in mind, Cold War was released in 2020 WITH next gen in mind. BOCW on PS5 does not look better than MW on PS4 Pro.

I don't understand why people are defending From so religiously. I am a huge fan of their work but it's okay for people to be critical of any dev because none of them are perfect. I'm an avid Kojima supporter but I understand almost every criticism that's thrown at him.

Looks fantastic.
I don't get the bitching about the graphics. This is cross gen, and FROM is known for their great art direction, not graphics. Not to mention they don't seem to work with the crazy AAA budgets of Sony First Party games or rockstar.

I can basically guarantee Demon Souls will look better. But Demon Souls is a 1:1 remake of an 11 years old game which was also the souls game with the least amount of content. And the team could spend years basically focusing on pushing the visuals as far as possible instead of worrying about level design, boss design, gear, weapons, gameplay, etc.

- The very vibrant color palette in use might be reinforced by weather, rumored to be key feature of the game as well and most shots look sunny afternoonish.

- Not a controlled leak. The trailer was never intended to be shown in public.

- No easy mode.

Not going to watch this crappy leak trailer. I've waited too long for a proper reveal trailer to be spoiled by the footage of a 2002 mobile phone.

Hopefully the rumors for a March trailer will end up being true.
