Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword E3 trailer

Oh I am getting tired of the anti-Ganondorf crowd. Casting Ganondorf aside makes about as much sense as an Austin Powers movie without Dr. Evil.

And it appearance in Twilight Princess wasn't sudden either, it was hinted and for-shadowed all along.
I've had this argument with Zelda fans for a long time, but I guess I'll just have to agree to disagree with them. Ganon's presence in TP was like one of the better things about the story for me. I just don't see how the story would have made sense otherwise.

My biggest wish for this game would be when I finish it I get a message that says...

Another quest will start from here.

Please press the start button.

Anyone else not care for the "sliced lime" stamina meter? I don't like the speech bubble middle-of-the-screen implementation at all. I'd much rather have it be another meter along the side.

Why would they keep it right on Link like that?

Holy exposition, Batman. I guess Nintendo's off the hook now.

How much more do you really need though? Ganon came back, people prayed to be saved and the goddesses flooded Hyrule to prevent Ganon from taking over it.

I'm hyped for this game again after seeing the gamespot footage. Do we have a confirmed list of items in the game yet?

-Bow+Arrow
-Slingshot
-Whip
-Beetle
-Bombs
-Mole Mitts

Not sure if I like only seeing 8 item slots on the item screen in the footage though.

iirc, that's how it was in TP too. And then as you accrued more items, more slots would appear in the circle. I wouldn't read anything into that.

Except the games without Ganondorf are still just as good. Sometimes better. For an example of the latter, see the best Zelda game to date: Link's Awakening.

However, since Ocarina was Ganon's origin story, and there is no plausable way to retcon around that, if Ganon appears in SS, it really won't make any sense.

This is Hyrule's origin story. I just hope they do a better job of explaining the creation of Hyrule then they did explaining it's destruction (Wind Waker). I am still waiting for Nintendo to explain how the world became flooded.
The Gerudo have a male born every 100 years. This game most likely takes place more than 100 years before OoT. I like Ganon, but having him in this game would be extremely forced.

Also, I think this summed the flood up. I have no idea why people want a game based around it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujEZQbBi2Yc

A game where you just pray to the gods for 20 hours and then the world ends?

Why would they have a persistent meter for something only visible when Link is dashing? Why? And why does it matter where it is?

Re: Siren world. The bigger issue with the siren world aside from the already annoying idea of conducting a fetch quest, is that apparently you don't have your sword. And the 'guardians' that patrol that world can kill you in one hit and you have no way of fighting back. Sounds like shit gameplay. :/

Also, hope Ganon's in it and that they handle his character better than they did in TP. *fingers crossed*

The best console and portable Zeldas don't have Ganon, so that's saying something

talking about majora's mask of course

and link's awakening

lol jk, i'm on about minish cap

I'll agree to disagree as well, and let me say that I loved the Wolf vs Boar animal theme...but Ganon never got any time during the pre-release stuff. Everything we saw was Zant. That's why everyone says he was forced in. It's not that the story didn't make sense; it's that people wanted to see someone else get some glory, like how Vaati did.

Its the potential! I would LOVE to play a Zelda game, with "mature" graphics (if that makes snese) where we see Link failing to stop Ganondorf once and for all the land flooding at the end. I mean... how epic would it be if Link managed to just restrain Ganondorf a bit and die in the end as the world is flooded?

That shit would be awesome. Will never happen though!

I'm with him. I always prefer the minimalistic approach to HUDs. Or something that fits into the game, such as Dead Space. Nintendo is great at making HUDs that really POP OUT at you. Constantly.

I am not a fan.

Good point. I can get behind that.

It obstructs the view somewhat. It's not huge or anything, but big and strange enough to be a little annoying. It's also just weird aesthetically. Doesn't seem to fit with the general style IMO.

But I honestly can't think of a better solution...

One of the gameplay videos had the booth operator girl basically confirm Zelda's gold harp is the musical item of the game.

I'll try looking for the video again.

Edit:
Argh! That girl was not from Nintendo, she was IGN's, but she does say the harp was equippable in the GDC demo (was it really? I've never seen that anywhere)

Ah yes, the Zelda where you must fail... Man, that sort of game would have all sorts of brilliance. Keep the hope and whimsy that I always love in Zelda games, and then turn around and crush it, crush it under tons and tons of water, the fallen hero's last sacrifice moving the Gods to stop Ganondorf from his evil... Bah, I'm giving myself chills. With every new Zelda, I always hope that it's the one to fill in the space between Adult End OoT and TWW. Maybe next time. Skyword Sword looks more than exemplary in the meantime. :D

Seeing Ganondorf's father would be nice, heck, let's put some irony into it and make Ganondorf's father HELP Link in his quest. That would be amazing.
Or even better, Link saves Ganondorf's father/grandfather! Talk about creating your own problems!

They did

It was the intro to Wind Waker

Just because it was a super simple explanation ("Shit was broken, pave over it with an ocean and try again") doesn't mean it wasn't explained.

Ok, so it looks like Link gets that Harp.

We see it as an item in a past screen shots.

It'd be cool if you weren't even a legitimate "Link" too. Just some guy who felt he had to do something so he took the Hero of Time as inspiration, sets off to defeat Ganondorf but ultimately fails. Plus, they could easily make it work ("real" Link or not) without retcons. Just say this hero was lost to history.

Zelda in Skyward Sword is the most adorable thing in video games i've seen in a long time. She's so
moe.

So is it safe to assume that this game will be the origin of hyrule as we know it in past games?

Well, the only thing I remember being said is that this is before Hyrule was established as a kingdom, and that this is before people lived on the land because the planet was uninhabitable or something like that. But it has been confirmed that this is a prequel to OOT, so who knows at this point. I won't get ahead of myself, but yeah, I think it'll probably explain things.

Yeah, it'd be silly to have it always on. But it's not just for dashing. Link uses the stamina meter for pushing boxes as well, which worries me a bit.

But TP didn't have empty slots like SS has.

Speaking of Minish Cap, that was a weird game, with Link and Zelda being childhood best friends despite her being fucking highest royalty in the goddamn land, and Link leaving with some blacksmith dude. Eh? This game at least makes sense with regards to the Link/Zelda friendship.
looks like they're smanging each other

Strange question, I know, but is the "painting" effect some kind of dynamic L.O.D. graphics filter, or is it just the art style they used when drawing the flat textures? I can't really tell from these videos.

In all likelihood, based on the established continuity/lore, the following will probably happen/appear in the game:

- Sages come into being/appear
- Master Sword forged (yes, this is obviously confirmed)
- Twili have established dominion, Lord Demon Yaoi being one of their tribe
- Temple of Time is erected, and the Sacred Realm is officially sealed off to protect the Triforce
- Royal Family of Hyrule is established, or at least we see the origins of formal Hyrule sovereignty (why the Phoenix is part of the Royal Seal/Crest/Emblem)
- Entirely possible the "fierce war" is part of this game because people mistake the thing about being a civil war between tribes when it was just a war that resulted in the formation of Hyrule proper as its known in OoT
- The Spiritual Stones will be created/appear
- Kokiri, Zoras, and Gorons exist
- We should also probably see what is City in the Sky from Twilight Princess, probably in a much more active state than the ruins it has become by Twilight Princess

Things I personally hope will be explained/transpire:
- Ending or something similar which shows the Twili being punished by the gods for their transgressions and sealed away in the Siren World, which becomes the Twili Realm.
- Proper backstory on Ganondorf that explains who he was and what he was up to prior to Ocarina of Time (his days as a thief and how he learned of the Triforce). Possibly he learned of it during the events of Skyward Sword, and saw what fate awaited those who outright challenged the gods, so he had to figure out a more cunning plan
- More backstory on the Sheikah/Royal Family history alluded to in the Shadow Temple's cryptic messages

Also, seems Zelda's attire is sorta like this ALttP artwork for what typical Hylians wore:
g-hylian-woman.jpg

Finally, really would be cool if the reason Lord Demon Yaoi is after Zelda is because she already has the Triforce of Wisdom because the Twili failed to obtain the entire Triforce and it split on them. So they can sense her "holiness" because she has the Triforce piece. Means the Triforce of Courage is probably with Link. Also means that at the end the Triforce should be reunited by probably Zelda or somebody, and that's another reason it's part of the Royal Family's symbol - the reclaimed the Triforce, and then were charged with its protection (or something similar).

Edit: Pretty sure the events of SS and OoT will collectively account for The Imprisoning/Seal War. Everyone's always had an issue with OoT's solely being that event, but this game, if it is in close enough proximity to OoT, could remedy that issue.

Here's what I would call a fan preview of skyward sword. It also shows late in the video how in the boss fight when he grabs your sword he can actually take it from you and attack with it.

Nice. They also said the shield meter is for blocking. Like if you block too much your shield can break.

Minish Cap is so brilliant. Shame they broke up the studio. :(
Didn't Nintendo scoop up the members of Flagship who worked on the Oracle games, Four Sword games and Minish Cap?

I believe the director of Skyward Sword is the same director as Minish Cap. Funny considering I believe Minish Cap was originally intended to be an origin story but Nintendo said no.

They say they're childhood friends in SS too.

I don't see problem with royalty/farmer relationships (the kingdom is a city and a town! there are like 10 kids there, and 1 school), not to mention the blacksmith was apparently the best one in Hyrule or something.

I do think the whole childhood friend concept is silly, though. Less anime in my games please.

Hidemaro Fujibayashi. And he was there on Day 1 watching people on the show floor play Skyward Sword.
