Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword E3 trailer

Direct Feed Footage of the Dungeon.

The game looks fantastic and the Sky Temple music is incredible.

This is the oldest Link has ever sound.

You guys NEED to watch this, it's the best video so far we have of Skyward Sword this E3!

The music is incredible, really feels like you are part of something epic. I love how all the Nintendo reps are saying the story is going to be amazing, they've never really mentioned story in Zelda before so it shows that they are confident.

please explain? this interests me greatly

The intentional design similarities of various characters, like Link's bird with King of Red Lions, the villain with the Gilded Sword, the bird looking like the Hyrule shield bird, and such.

Not only that, the spokesperson going on about it being a prequel to OoT and tying things up.

Yeah, really awesome music. I just hope the pacing of the game will be excellent as well. I think that's what made Ocarina so enjoyable.

Yeah Miyamoto said on the nintendo press conference "It's finally done."

I hope they're only delaying it for the holidays for bug testing. If it's only for selling extra thousands of copies in the first month... well fuck you Nintendo! I could be playing this this summer!

Intentional or not, I love how Link's bird is red. He's already well represented with green and blue, having some red thrown on them makes him even more vibrant. When you stop and think about it, Link is often easily Nintendo's most colourful character.

Things I really like about Skyward Sword right now:

4. You can upgrade your stuff.
5. You can sprint now! Hated rolling in past Zelda games.
8. Hearts grow on the ground like plants, and are no longer sprites but polygonal objects.
i think they really try to change the playing format of Zelda, theres a lot of changes in design compare to the traditional Zelda design

Skyward Sword will tell us a few things about Hyrule's history, I think:

- How the Triforce Symbol came to become part of the Bird Symbol of Skyloft.
- How the Hyrule Royal Family came to be.

i disagree, I believe it needs to be retired. As a audio man, it's clear whenever midi is being utilized due to the inferior nature of its sound output quality, even on its best day

The only midis that don't suck are the ones coming from the soundtracks of Donkey Kong Country series on SNES.

I'm not surprised by the PH, Sprit Tracks, inspirations.
The director of those games is very much involved with Skyward Sword.
I really enjoyed them so I'm cool with it.

This is what I'm excited about plus the MasterSword backstory.

The story I'm guessing is set way before the events of Ocarina of Time, like centuries. Though the Nintendo rep did say that the story will "lead up" to the events of Ocarina of Time. One thing for sure is we will see the creation of the master sword, that's a major part of the plot.

Yes, of course there's that too.

You know, correct me if I'm wrong, but this would be the first 3D Zelda with Zelda, the Master Sword, the Triforce and WIHTOUT Ganon/Ganondorf. (Assuming here, of course.)

How fucking cool would it be if at the end of the game we place the Master Sword in the Temple of Time for safe keeping until the Hero of Time comes to pull it out?

Holy shit I'm so excited for this game. I don't think I've ever been this excited for a new Zelda game since Ocarina of Time.

Man, it would be awesome if we could see the construction of the Temple of Time. And the guy that looks like Rauru would actually stay as the Temple's sage!

hmm now i remember from Zelda OOT, the first opening scene having the triforce, courage wisdom, and power coming from the sky, they are probably talking about the story of this game

The designers have probably asked themselves a million times "is this really essential to Zelda" while making the game. If it's not, you can change it.

You can see this even in the little things. In previous 3D Zeldas Link has moved faster by rolling because someone thought it was a good idea in OOT, heart container has looked the way it looks just because someone designed it that way in OOT, etc, etc.

I think they're finally moving on from OOT's burden on to new fresh things.

My hunch is that the people (or just the Royal Family) of Skyloft are tasked with protecting the Triforce.

Zelda is referred to as 'her holiness' in one of the walkthroughs, so I'm guessing she is a part of the Skyloft Royal Family. Perhaps at the end of the game, the population of Skyloft move down to the once evil-ridden surface and proclaim the land as Hyrule. Therefore, the Skyloft royal family = Hyrule royal family.

Twist! What if Skyloft then becomes the Sacred Realm? Hmm...

I guess releasing a remake of OOT the same year as SS was well planned, if the 2 stories are somehow linked in the end. So both stories will be fresh in everyone's mind and everyone playing SS will be "Oooh, i remember that small detail from OOT a few months ago!".

What we know of the timeline before Ocarina is a bit murky. The two major events are the Hyrulean Civil War and the attempt by Dark Interlopers to obtain the Triforce. These two events could be the same thing actually. The issue with Skyward Sword leading upto Ocarina is that it means there is already an established society beneath the sky with a royal family and everything. The way they've described it so far it seems like the world beneath the sky doesn't have a government, it's kind of a lawless place. That makes me believe that Skyward Sword is actually set many centuries before Ocarina of Time and the Hyrulean Civil War. What is the age of the Master Sword, have they ever said in one of the games?

I promise you that Ganondorf will be in Skyward Sword.

I'd be lying if I said that I wouldn't prefer something akin to the Wii U footage they showed off. The whole atmosphere of entering that room, the boss, the torches. It honestly needs to happen. As for this game, the previous showings didn't have my hopes up in the least. The more I have heard about the combat gives me hope though, and while I think the whole bird thing, and the enemies that have been shown, are way too cutesy for my taste, I know Nintendo will give us a great game.

But please Nintendo for the love of God add those combat elements to the Wii U game that was shown. So much promise in that clip.

The timeline just confuses me..I just play each game not thinking too hard about it..if it links to the other games great..I'd not I'm not worried.

This is what I am most excited about really. OoT never had a strong story, but the mythology and characterizations were all there in stone. I haven't touched OoT in a serious manner since it was initially released so I am thankful to be afforded this situation to refresh my memory proper.

The easiest thing to think about is that there are two timelines. Basically alternate universes of the "same" people and the lands that are affected by them.

How could he? If the game takes place before Ocarina of Time (like, centuries before OoT), Ganondorf shouldn't even be born at this point.

The three headed stalfo monster thing did 1 heart of damage to link in the gamespot preview.
It seems enemies will be a bit more threatening this time around.

Zelda's got a harp. Looks like the one Sheik uses in OoT.

Wonder if it will be Link's music item for this game.

Also, upgrading items isn't completely new to the series. ALttP had that thing where the swordsmith could temper the master sword to make it more powerful, and then the great fairy would power it up even more. Majora's Mask had sword forging. You could possibly count OoT's Biggoron sword quest. PH and ST had customization for the boats and trains. Oh yeah, and the bombs/bomb arrows in TP. It just seems much more widespread in this game, and possibly deeper.

I love Zelda's expressions and her design. She just may end up being my favorite incarnation of Zelda depending on how much of her we end up seeing.

Complementary colors, color design 101.

It is without a doubt Link's musical item in the game.

Another thing I noticed is how they changed the design of the Hylian shield since the E3 2010/GDC trailer:

Fuck this game got me hyped. God dammit. I want this now. The story, for the first time since Wind Waker, seems to actually be awesome. The game seems more like WW than TP so that's a bigger plus. Fuck. Yeah. Zelda.

That's Ryan Scott. Of GFW Radio "fame".

I'm pretty sure he's joking/exaggerating about his arm being tired. But he genuinely isn't a fan of motion controls in general, it's true.

I remember thinking that it was bizarre that he didn't like the ball rolling in Mario Galaxy. I thought that was a clever use of motion controls because it was so restrained. To each their own, but it's a bit troubling that a person who writes about games for a living cannot recognize that the core of this game is the motion controls. It's fine if he doesn't like that, but it's bizarre that he doesn't realize that the game just would not work well with a regular control pad. I'm still a fan of Ryan Scott's podcast work, but come on.

Also, am I the only one bothered by the way Gamespy does previews? It seems like a waste of manpower. Why do they need two people to tell readers about a game? They aren't even doing anything interesting with the two people; it's just a relatively depthless preview with inane questions bolted on.

Wow. The music sounds like something straight of a Dragon Quest dungeon/tower. Superbly yummy.

I was thinking the same thing. With each page or so in this thread I become more and more impressed in this game.
