Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword E3 trailer

Crap, just registered in Chrome on Windows XP and didn't get the pop-up. I don't have any kind of pop up blocker enabled or anything.

grrr. I just sent the support team an email.

Haha, wrong thread?

I know that feeling, though.

<-- yeah, this is my favorite image so far in SS. If anyone could get a better close-up on his face, and turn it into an avatar, I would probably take that one. :P

Thanks for the Avatar! :D

Started replaying Minish Cap. Already finished the 4th dungeon. Game moves at a ridiculous pace, even though I know what to do. I would kill for a 3D console Zelda that has the shrinking mechanic- the close-ups of the bookshelves, flowering paths, heck, even fucking barrels look great.

So yeah. They should have a Minish thing in this game, to have that mechanic. Just a dungeon with it would be enough. :lol

Remember guys the bosses are supposed to be massive in this game. A trend we already saw with TP and they are sticking with. I really liked the Zant battle where he was a giant and then shrunk to a miniature size when he was hit. I'm sure this game will have a bunch of crazy moments like that. GOTY 2011, respect!

Can't fucking wait. Boss battles are always such highpoints in Zelda games.

I think we've seen one boss from the GDC trailer. A metallic weird looking thing. It could be a mini-boss of course.

I reversed this, but nothing special happened.
It's a completely original composition!
Which is of course what you would expect.

With Nintendo you can never be too sure.

Gamecube menu = Famicom Disk System bootup
EDIT: Mushroom power up sound effect = Super Mario Bros stage clear sped up
Ocarina of Time title screen = Mario Bros 3/Zelda recorder theme
Skyward Sword Theme = Reversed Zelda's Lullaby

That's not really a "plot formula" and it's not even true.

Heck, the "disguised Zelda" plot in Wind Waker is totally different than in Ocarina. In Ocarina, Zelda disguises herself as a man to help Link awaken the Sages and to protect the Triforce of Wisdom. In Wind Waker, a girl named Tetra discovers that she's by birthright the current Princess Zelda and has no idea about the Triforce.

That's a pretty cowardly way to run away from an argument you started.
That's a pretty cowardly attempt at a baseless inference, in order to infer a victory you never had.

The attempt has been made to explain it to you. The same story (and progression) elements are repeated over and over in the games, so your response is to just say "yeah, well, it's not the big things that matter, it's the little details". As if any series of creative works, no matter how repetitive, aren't going to have differences in the small details. Do you realize how silly of a cop out that comes off as?

When someone points out exactly what they're talking about, and you just say "well then that's something that doesn't matter", or you say "that's not true" without showing why, then proceed to just point out one difference in two different games (how they approach the "disguised princess" idea), well that's a good example of why I say it's not worth the effort to try to extract objectivity and intellectual honesty from such people.

Yeah, like I said, there can't be an honest discussion about flaws in the overall Zelda design philosophy on GAF without some angry fanboy taking a dump on it, so I'm not going to try. I just had to indulge in coming back to strip you of your synthetic self-satisfaction.

A little comment on the bird riding gameplay: I've never been a fan of controlling these kinds of things with motion control, I feel like when I just miss that golden bird I'm going to blame it on the Wii remote. I hope we can use the analog stick for that, but I doubt it.

Doesn't stop people from blaming it on the analog either. I've heard that one countless times, "No, dude! It's the controller. The stick is stuck or something!"

Anyway, I think it will be fine.

So does anyone think that Phi's resemblance to the great fairy in Wind Waker is going to be addressed? I just now noticed since I'm playing Wind Waker for the first time.

The structure of progression is similar in 4 games. The actual stories, characters, dungeons, the substance of the games are completely different. The Zelda/Tetra thing is only superficially similar to Zelda/Sheik. Tetra didnt even know she was Zelda, but the game kept implying that she was more than just a pirate.

We have all heard that response from our friends simply because we best them in a game of super smash brothers or something like that. It still doesn't change the fact that using our own controller playing a single player game it will feel like we are more in control during that section of that game leading us (or at least me) to believe that the reason I missed that golden bird was excusable. But hey, it could just be me.

I swear, if I EVER make a video game I will put so many options to customize how you want to play in there you won't even know what to do with them all.

Aren't all stories similar in structure if you look deep enough? Don't most Final Fantasy games have you start with a soldier that has amnesia and works for an evil organization etc etc? Fighting games always, always revolve around a tournament? The argument you're making can be applied to a whole lot of games.
And how would you suggest changing the story structure of a Zelda game while still keeping it a Zelda game?

Majora's Mask and Link's Awakening are both good examples.
