yeah you're so right, the media is way too concerned with sequels to give a new ZELDA game a chance.

As far as sequels go, I honestly think Zelda has much less similarity than a lot of other games.

Honestly, a highly futuristic Zelda would be awesome. And I don't mean "realistic futuristic Zelda", I mean a Zelda that incorporates technology and stuff in a very... Nintendo manner.

I think there could be something related to space and the cosmos in the city of skyloft but nothing even close to actual space travel. Imagine entering into a secret temple in skyloft and finding this:

I don't think so. Or rather I agree with you in hoping they don't. What's interesting about Ganon is that he's probably all the same person, while Link and Zelda seem to emerge in different times as different (yet similar) people. It's interesting to think Ganon is using the triforce of power to basically project his influence to all these different places and times, there's something kind of grotesquely, mind-bendingly clever about that. It's perfect for a villain, he almost becomes more of a ubiquitous or persistent evil force, in addition to being more of a human character.

tww had a better plot twist, what with ganondorf trying to save the hyrule of ocarina of time while link/the player was made to doom it.

Oh, no doubt. Wind Waker has the best story in there series, but it clearly follows the Zelda plot formula. That's all I'm saying.

But now, since the Master Sword is not sealed or anything, it can't be 3 Artifacts -----> Master Sword Get. Unless they go the Twilight Princess road, where the 3 Artifacts had absolutely nothing to do with the Master Sword...

No, I think Skyward Sword will follow its own path, and I think it will be the first 3D Zelda game to actually evolve the Ocarina of Time gameplay engine, and just adding in a gimmick (that excludes MM). I really think the motion controls and the new format with dungeons within dungeons will really make it stand out.

re: complaining about Zelda sequels versus an FPS sequel

people act like this is a mystery, but I really don't think it is. if you remove all the presentational aspects from Zelda and an FPS, the FPS will still be a fundamentally enjoyable target-range practice for the large-majority of the time. In Zelda, while the puzzle solving aspects do exist and would still be enjoyable, you spend most of the time simply walking around. On a moment-to-moment basis, a Zelda game relies much more heavily on the window-dressing, whereas an FPS can tap into the fundamentally enjoyable twitch-like gameplay experience on every level.

Now, take into account all the presentational aspects. An FPS will usually be set in a culturally relevant setting covering ground that most people will instantly relate to, and its magic tricks will be very Hollywood. In Zelda, however, you're back in the "same-old" fantasy setting and the set-pieces are very abstract. The presentational illusion just isn't as believable to a 15-35 year old male.

So, I mean, yes, you can complain about the "free-pass" media outlets give other series, but don't act like it's just because "it's a Nintendo game". It's more interesting than that.

That's actually an interesting idea considering how similarly to the grappling hook it was used in ST. I might like to see the Double Clawshot return, however. Loved that weapon, and the epic boss battle it allowed me to have.

Hmm for some reason I think it would have a better chance of evolving into a grappling hook. I'm wondering how the slingshot will evolve. It seemed to be mostly worthless in TP but it seems like everything will have a purpose in this game so I hope it becomes something great. Just the fact that you can upgrade items is great because that lets us know they won't just be used in one area then become worthless for the rest of the game.

Agreed.

Whip -> Grappling hook -> Hookshot

I think he main reason they both are in is because while the bow is more powerful, it requires you to draw then aim and fire the arrow (like in Wii Sports Resort). The slingshot is simple point and shoot, but the tradeoff here is that it's much less powerful.

The slingshot wasn't in the game until late. It was put in as a tutorial for pointer aiming.
