Isn't it basically a crap shoot when they give death estimates? Some can outlive or undercut projections.

Yes.

Also, I firmly believe that some people when they're that sick have the ability to just let go and choose to pass.

RIP Lemmy, you beautiful bastard ;_;

I got royally smashed up on rum and played some Motorhead songs last night in his honor, ended up playing some songs on guitar too

dude had so many (serious) medical issues in his life and he ignored them all. I'm not even speaking about his decades long drug abuse, 3-4 packs of cigs a day and daily hard liquor consume.
it's a fucking miracle he even lived that long.

rip, Lemmy
you will be missed

Motörhead shows were always unique (to me). no triggered drum kits, no fake shit....just 1) Lemmy + Band entering stage
2) "We are Motörhead!"
3) pure music

edit:
My guess, he thought it better to just drink more Scotch than see a doctor.

He probably knew.

He HATED doctors

I'd forgotten he wrote Hellraiser, even though he released a version with Motorhead.

Hellraiser said:
Walking out on another stage
Another town, another place
Sometimes I don't feel right
Nerves wound up too damn tight
Don't you tell me it's bad for my health
'Cos kicking back don't make it
Out of control, I play the ultimate role
Don't know how to fake it

Do we know what game he left with? I think the articles initially mentioned Rainbow Six, but I think they might have confused it with the name of the bar where he played it (Rainbow)

It was just the bar game he always played at the Rainbow. Video poker and stuff.

Lemmy's Last Days: How Metal Legend Celebrated 70th, Stared Down Cancer

Rolling Stone said:
It was cancer, and Lemmy reacted calmly. "He took it better than all of us. His only comment was, 'Oh, only two months, huh?' The doctor goes, 'Yeah, Lem, I don't want to bullshit you. It's bad, and there's nothing anyone can do. I would be lying to you if I told you there was a chance.'"

Singerman was inclined to keep the diagnosis private and announce only that Lemmy was gravely ill and needed to be left alone. "He was like, 'No, no. You go ahead and put out a press release. I want people to know it was cancer. It's a bad thing and they should know it.' That's how he felt."

Plans were to put out a press release after informing close friends and family. Nurses were hired to be at his condo in shifts. A morphine kit arrived in preparation of coming pain. A favorite video-game console at the Rainbow Bar & Grill on the Strip that Lemmy loved to play at the corner of the bar was brought over.

Singerman and others began calling friends and family. Lemmy told his partners in Motörhead on Sunday night, and travel plans were being made for them to visit immediately.

"Here's the shocker for me and everyone else: He's been to a thousand doctors and hospitals throughout the world, but nobody caught this," says Singerman. "To be told you have terminal cancer with all the blood tests he's taken in his life and everything else? It's very hard to grasp that. It's not like he had a fucking chance here. This was outright: 'You got no more than six months.'"

A doctor visited early Monday. Ozzy Osbourne would be coming by that day or the next. Lemmy spent hours on the video-game console, as Rainbow owner Mikael Maglieri paid a visit. Then Lemmy nodded off and never woke up again.

"Mikael called to say, 'My God, he just died right in front of me,'" Singerman says.

Funeral will be held in Hollywood this Saturday and will be live streamed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSAXVdIj6jY

On SATURDAY JANUARY 9th, the world will come together and celebrate the life of our friend, and legend, Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister.

Family and close friends will observe a service at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Hollywood, commencing at 3pm PST and ending at 4.30pm. With such limited space available on-site, we respectfully ask that you don’t attend the cemetery… but we want you ALL to be a part of this, so we are setting up a live feed of the service via the internet on Motörhead’s official You Tube channel:

So wherever you are, PLEASE get together and watch the service with fellow Motörheadbangers and friends. GO to your favorite bar, or your favorite club, make sure they have access to an internet connection and toast along with us.
Or simply invite your pals around and celebrate Lemm’s life at home.

Whatever your venue, and however you can, let’s be sure to gather globally on Saturday 9th and celebrate the life of our dear friend and irreplaceable icon.

I'm going to a local viewing of Lemmy's service tomorrow. I'm hoping for a few minutes of silence and then a few hours of loud fucking Motorhead.

That was a pretty moving tribute. Cried several times. Unfortunately, the sound messed up while Dave Grohl was telling a cool story!

Fuck it, I don't even like Jack Daniel's, but I dug out a bottle that is literally left over from my wedding 22 years ago, and I'll drink a Jack and Coke in his honor. Here's to ya, Lem!

Yeah I couldn't hear shit but the crowd's reaction seemed to say it was pretty funny.

Instead the sound returned when he was reciting some lame-ass sad poem about the Lord when Lemmy wasn't even religious. -_-

He was reciting the lyrics to a Little Richard song, with Little Richard being one of Lemmy's favourite musicians/inspirations, if not THE one. The song had the word lord in it, sure. I really don't think Lemmy would've taken issue.

That was what the picture was about too; Grohl had met Little Richard and got something signed, and had planned to give it to Lemmy but never got the chance.

I see. Well, too bad the sound fuck-up made me miss the context. I couldn't hear a thing.

same....right when dave grohl was making a joke or reference of one...the sound went to shit...and all I heard was ambient sound mostly and little bit for grohl...

The first time I saw Motörhead was on an episode of The Young Ones back in the late 80s.
