Conan should go to Comedy Central, right between The Daily Show and Colbert Report!
Before would be great. Sure as shit would be better than the utter fucking misogynistic trash that is Secret Girlfriend or Krod Mandoon or whatever the fuck else they'll stupidly try to squeeze in there to appeal to their worthless frat audience.

If Conan decides to stay at NBC with the new time slot and both shows still get low ratings I wonder what other ridiculous ideas NBC is going to do next.

"OK, we'll have Jay on for 15 minutes doing a 5 minute monologue, 5 minutes of commercials, and a 5 minute celebrity interview, and follow that up with Conan hosting a Japanese game show!"

When that same audience doesn't tune in to watch him leaving him with bad ratings which causes this kind of crap to go down.
exactly. I like how some are implying this is somehow leno's fault.

Well you can't show a bear jerking off until midnight anyway, so this is good news for everyone. Seriously, Conan lost his edge by having to appeal to the late night news crowd. Being on later is better for him.

So what happens to the money that NBC said they'd pay Conan? From reading the other thread it seems there's a clause in his contract where they have to pay him the rest of his contract, something around 40 million?

I could be wrong though.

They are within the terms of the contract with this move. If Conan leaves, he doesn't get the money (I assume).

This whole thing goes way beyond Conan's talents as a late night host. It's a generational war in which the incoming, soon to be popping out babies and taxable income 30 somethings aren't quite strong enough to dislodge the useless, fat and happy generation that rules before them.

Well shit, that makes things quite difficult on Conan then

Heh, here's the deal with that contract.

NBC are fine to broadcast the Tonight Show as late as 12:00 am, which is usually used as a buffer in case something major is happening.

So, they give Jay the 25 minute show starting at 11:35, and permanently move Conan/TTS to 12.

So, if Conan leaves, I think they wouldn't have to pay the rest of his contract, and then they can give Jay the Tonight Show back no problems.

Pretty fucked up.

The Tonight show was different when Johnny Carson was hosting. It changed when Leno got the job, and it'll need to change again with Conan. This is why comments about how Conan doesn't fit the The Tonight Show don't apply. He'll make the show his, but it takes time.
He's more tame, but that's more likely due to him not wanting to offend. Once audiences and guests get familiar with his style, he'll have more leeway with what he can and shouldn't do.

The Tonight Show with Conan is already more edgy than Leno's ever was.

What's wrong with Conan? I haven't cable in years, but he's the best. I hope he's not too sad about all this. His show was quite fine in the 12:30 slot to me (or whenever it was).

12 works for me. I like Conan, but I'm not about to skip Cobert for it. I think they may be able to get the post-DS/CR crowd by putting the show at 12.

Put him on Comedy Central and call it a day

They shouldn't have given Conan the Tonight Show in the first place if they weren't even going to give him a chance.
Agreed 110%.

Jay Leno is fucking overrated. I'd watch Conan over him any day. He's lame, tame, uses tacky jokes, way too predictable. Waaayyyyy past his prime.

Letterman > Conan > dude on the street > Leno

They should just take a random episode of Conan's Tonight Show, put it in any time slot they like and put it on repeat every night and it would probably take years for people to recognize.

It took Leno about 18 months to draw an audience equal to Letterman. Conan has been given 7. NBC blows. The only good thing about this is that, if he stays, I can watch the first 30 of Letterman, then get the first 30 of O'Brien, then go to bed.

Having said that, Conan really needs to tell NBC to blow him and make the move over to Fox, where I'm sure they would give him much more latitude to do the edgier show he is clearly capable of...

Anyone watching the Jay Leno show? He just did a funny monologue.

Jay: "The US postal service is coming out with a Jay Leno Show letter stamp.

*he shows the stamp to the audience*

Jay: "But get it fast because it will be cancelled after 4 months."

Kevin Eubanks: "ahahaha"

One of the best things to come out of this is that Jay is making jokes about the situation in his monologue.

That was 1992. They didn't have any other real option, Dave had already signed with CBS. And these days networks don't allow shows to "build an audience" any more. Sagging ratings are handled fast.

When you add in the fact that NBC is on the block for Comcast, the situations could not be more different...

The little fucker pretending he is getting canceled while he fucks over Conan AND gets his old time slot back is pathetic. I wish when I got canceled/fired it mean I was getting my old job back. That'd just be awesome.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but would Fox do an hour-long late-nite talk show kind of thing? It just doesn't seem very Fox-ish to me, but I guess that's just because they've never done one before (to my knowledge).

hopefully there will be some re-org's in the programming department in NBC after the buyout is completed. If it wasnt plain as day that it was run by a pack of retarded monkey's before, its pretty clear right now

i could see ABC getting Conan to do an 11:30 show to open up for Kimmel

They gave it a shot with Chevy Chase, which tanked massively I think.

And how long did it take Conan to "get right" as host? Two? Three years? Now it's 7 months? The stupidity and knee-jerking with this is insane.

This makes me sad. I don't watch Conan much anymore because I don't watch TV very often, but I grew up watching his show so it bums me out to see him given an "ultimatum", especially in favor of Jay fuckin Leno. I get that it's a business decision, but Conan is awesome.

Whoever is in charge of lining up guests for Conan needs to be fired. He's been getting shit for guests since the 2nd week of the show.

If you don't watch his show, why get upset over something that has no effect on you?

Jay is to Simpsons as Conan is to Family Guy.
Wrong on so many levels.
I'm not even gonna mention how Conan wrote some of the classic Simpsons episodes. Oops. I just did.

Anyway, I grew up watching Letterman and Conan. Don't anymore, but I'm still a huge fan.
It makes me sad that Conan is going through this shit. I've never had a problem with Leno other than the fact that his humor is too mainstream for my tastes... but this whole process is making him out to be quite the douche.
