Lets talk about replacement 3.5mm headsets for PS4

Any word on getting the 360 headset to work with an adapter? The mic that comes with the PS4 is so damn sensitive to sound you could hear a pin drop in the room.

Yeah, I'm still holding out for this. I thought the fight stick adapter would work, no dice.

That is a great set of headphones for the money, should work very well. At that price you better order soon. These are over £250 in the UK.

My understanding is you can send all game and chat audio to the controller output, so you are all set with these.

Awesome, thanks!

i bought a pair over the weekend, and it works ...its a bit buggy to get it to work....but once its setup, its sex for your ears ...

Thanks! How about the Skullcandy PLYR 1? Same company, right? I've heard the sound quality is comparable, but the Astro definitely has the better build, though I'm not sure if it's worth the extra $130. The PLYR 1s are only $130 at Best Buy in-store right now.

Hello everybody, just a quick question.

I have a 7.1 surround sound headset that works flawlessly through my PS4. Though, the one problem is that my chat cable is 2.5mm and the PS4 controller has 3.5mm Female. If I buy a 2.5mm female to 3.5mm male TRRS will I be able use my headset for chat?

I'm currently using a combo of Headset for sound and mono PS4 headset for chat.

My ears hurt, please help

Do I actually need to buy this cable from Turtle Beach, or is it something I can pick up from Radio Shack?

I wouldn't purchase anything from Radioshack when it comes to cables, they're overpriced to no end. Though, reading the turtle beach website it seemed that the cable on the turtle beach website is recommended for their headsets. For a cheaper more generic cable i would hit up Monoprice.

You can usually find the cable you are looking for at a low price.

I use the Sony Pulse Elites. The mic works great too.

The problem with the Apple Ear Pods are that the mic sends a weird tone.

The only issue with the Elites right now is that the mic mute button doesn't seem to work right now, meaning either the mic is always on unless you exit to dash from your game and change it manually.

Ordered the PS4 Chat Cable for my X41s. I like that I was able to check out via Amazon, and get free shipping as well. Can't wait to actually sound decent in NFS: Rivals.

Both. Its a stereo headphone. You can hear game audio in stereo and you also hear chat out of both.

Stereo. Very helpful when playing a shooter and you follow footsteps via audio. Stereo is always better than mono!
Weird. I got these Vita earbuds but still only hear chat out of one ear. I wonder if my controller is messed up.

Are there any good mono headsets (read: with one earphone, just like the Xbox 360 ones) and a mic that will work with the PS4? I really don't know what to go with since hearing that Apple ones won't work.

To clarify, I want to hear all audio from my sound system and just get game chat audio through a headset.

I'd say the 25.00 turtle beach p4 one, but I noticed last night while playing CoD the mic lit up every time I fired.

There's gotta be a less sensitive mono mic out there. I don't want something like the sony pulse elite.

Me and my buddy both bought the Turtle Beach P4C and don't recommend it. We have the volume maxed in the menu for the headset and on the headset cable and it's still really low to the point where we both can barely hear anyone.

I'm gonna go out and buy something else at this point.

All I want is a wired Jabra or Plantronics style over the ear that fits the DS4 without an extra adapter. Does this not exist?

I will limp along with the pack in earbud until they add BT headset support if need be, but man. I miss my 360 wireless mic in the worst way.

Anyone found a headset with the quality of the 360 headset?

Packing in a high quality headset was the best thing about the 360 launch. I wish sony would have realized the cost is worth the added benefit to the online community of high quality communication.

I'm using a USB mic that I had with PS3 right now. Does anybody have Icemat Siberias here? I have a USB connector for the audio/voice cables and was wondering if you plug it into your PS4 and have both in game audio/voice to work.

That seems to be the holy grail that some of us are wanting to find. I haven't read about anyone trying the plantronics in the OP, but they look like what we want.

I'm also in the camp for Sony supporting the official PlayStation Bluetooth headset, but there is no announced support for that device yet.

my razer kraken headset works, but it probably isn't a long term solution. it's just a 3.5 mil headset that sounds weak at best even on pc.

If you're looking for a cheaper option to allow you to use your current PS3/360 headsets with the new consoles, this seems like a good choice.

I bought one of these on Amazon and got to set it up yesterday.

It does a great job of converting the digital signal from your devices, and it converts to analog. This allows me to connect my Turtle Beach headset to this thing and hear everything in crystal clear quality.

The only downside of course is that you can't voice chat, but if you're just trying to get the game audio in a high quality, this is a great option. For now I'll be happy with this on both new consoles. I'm really happy the PS4 has it's headset port on the controller, but I found the audio quality to be lackluster for certain games, and overall you're just hearing much better sound when you're using the optical audio out.

Is there a way to get the sound to duplicate the mono to both sides? Wearing a headset and only getting sound out of the left ear drives me fucking crazy.

I was going to go the headphones plus clip on mic route.

Headfi had a post about headphones with great soundstage for gaming the recommended ones were -

K701
Q701
K702 65th Anniversary Edition
MA-900
HD598
PC360
AD700
SR-407
ESP-950

is there any documentation on the output level of the DS4? Because although everything will work, these different equipment have varying impedances and the DS4 might not be able to drive them properly.

thanks to this thread I ordered two adapters from Amazon. One converting TRRS types and another combining two separate 3.5mm jacks into a TRRS one. I have a Koss gaming headset I like with separate 3.5mm plugs, but also like the though of convenience of just using my ear pods.

Guess we'll see how they work. $10 + free shipping for both.

I'd go with the Skullcandy or Astro A40s. The A50s seem to have a high defective rate.

Can anyone recommend some good headphone amps? I'm using the Pulse Elites via 3.5 jack. While it works well the audio is too low for my taste especially with Killzone. I'm a huge noob when it comes to amps though so i'm not even sure how they work.

Would i have to wait till they add dongle support or could i use the DS4?

Does anyone know if a headset like the Gioteck EX-05 wired will work fine with the PS4?

Being in the UK obviously the PS4 isn't out here for a week, but I'm currently playing with friends on 360 and want to get a proper headset for now and for when we all move to next-gen and will continue are chats there. So really I just need to know if it will work or not before I pick some up.

Bought these 2 for my PS4 and they're working quite well.

Thanks for taking the time to share the links, you just saved me lots of "researching" b/c I'm grabbing those Panasonics.

You could use an amp with a 3.5mm connection with the DS4, but sound quality might not be as good and you'd have something dangling from the controller. You'd probably want an amp that can use optical, I'm not sure if amps with a USB connection will work. When my PS4 arrives tomorrow, I'll be using the Dr. DAC2 DX TE DAC/AMP combo. It connects via both optical and USB. I'll post again after I test this out. How much are you willing to spend? The Dr Dac2 retails for around $500 at most places (I got mine for about half that price new, luckily), but there are much cheaper alternatives.

Havent fully tested(tested microphone that is) it but heres How I hookup my Turtlebeach 5.1 Earforce Charlies.

It has all 3.5mm output plugs for each front/side/center etc. I have the little convertor box to take green/black/orange (designated channels) and convert those to Red/White RCA input.

Hook HDMI up to my TV, whatever active signal is on TV it will output that audio(if hooked up) via a RCA output on the TV. Run my headset to these via conversion box.

Then Microphone plug goes right into controller, usb powered front of ps4.

Octopus of wires but sounds damn good.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm shooting for the $50-$100 range. Only going to use it when i'm in the mood to play at nights so it's not going to be my primary way of playing. Not a big audiophile so average to good would be fine with me.

Hmm I have a nuforce usb DAC I could try tonight. Doubt it will work though.

I saw some people allude to something like this, but wanted to provide a nice easy link. Luckily this company is located a few miles from my house so I can just pick them up, but they are just like monoprice and will ship anywhere.

I can confirm that this works on the DS4, I was able to use it and hook up my plantronics gamescom headset just fine. Basically any headset that splits into a speaker + separate mic connection (green + pink) will work with that adapter.

I was playing BF4, Resogun, and Killzone using that adapter with my headset. I was of course able to have it pump all audio through the port on the DS4 or just the chat and it worked both ways, I could hear people just fine and they could hear me talk.

If USB amps do work, the Fiio E10 would be a good, inexpensive choice.

If you don't mind something dangling from the controller, the Fiio E6 is your best bet. And it's <$30!

Anyone else have a busted pair of headphones come with their ps4?

I plug mine in (Still think it's weird that the connection is too big for the controller?) and unless i'm holding it/pushing it into the port on the controller it completely loses it's connection. When I am holding it in as tightly as possible i can hear people talking through it but they can't hear me through the mic... it's really kind of frustrating.

I ended finding a ooooooold pair of 3.5 ear buds with a mic attached that works flawlessly but are fairly uncomfortable. Tried connecting my bluetooth headset i used with my ps3 and the 4 said there was no software profile for the blue tooth device to install.

So... I don't need set for ALL audio out.. just for chat and such. High quality, clear, comfy set. My phone earbuds don't work (the ones that came with my GalaxyS4) my vita headset doesn't work... i'm kind of at a loss.

Is it possible i got a bad controller?
