The Tree of Life should win everything it's nominated for, but the Oscars are horrible so they'll probably give best picture to something awful like War Horse.

IMO Kristen Wiig's actual acting performance in Bridesmaids was better than McCarthy's.

Overall its a very good film, but McCarthy's performance was mostly just exaggerated physical comedy, which the Academy normally doesn't give two shits about, whereas Wiig's character was nuanced and displayed a full range.

Why did Jonah Hill get nominated for Money Ball? I've seen that movie, and I do not remember anything particularly memorable about his performance.

I'm still hoping, although I'll end up disappointed. Why is Meryl Streep nominated anyway?

Because she's playing a historically infamous person that also happens to be a film that was picked up by the Weinsteins. No doubt that they're going to drive home hard the point of her last win being for Sophie's Choice, which was nearly 30 years ago.

1. No Tintin, should have been at least in animated category

2. No Andy Serkis for Apes

3. Incredibly close is a complete Oscar bait.

4. No nods for Ryan Gossling!?

5. No nods for harry potter pt2? (96% RT )

Still shocked Extremely Loud and Pretentious Bullshit managed a nod. Max Von Sydow deserves it, but even his performance is tainted by the artificial, affected bullshit forced onto it by the fake fake script.

I have no clue either. He was basically being himself in the film.

Nick Nolte for Warrior!

Even though he was essentially playing Nick Nolte.

Do the Weinstein's have incriminating photos of every Academy voter, or something?

It seems like every other year some mediocre film of theirs manages to get a boatload of nominations.

I've noticed that usually for actors to win the award, it rarely can be a subtle, nuanced performance. These sorts of performances tend to be overshadowed by "LOOK AT ME, I'm ACCTIIINGGG" type performances at awards.

Look at that Sandra Bullock movie. A fine performance? Yeah. Best Actress? GTFO.

the way oscars work:

1. nominate all those you like and those who pay you

2. throw in some side nods to please audiences

3. Make sure 90% of their fav win

4. Make sure 10% of your fav win to please you, entice u

its like a lottery you know you will never win but keep coming back

Midnight in Paris is simply pure magic.

Screw you.

No need to insult me. Just go to your local Best Buys to see what Woody Allen is capable of and work of his that deserves adulation. If "Annie Hall" isn't under Blu Ray new releases, it should be under "A". Most BBs don't divide up Blus by Genre.

No, they just know how to kiss their asses the best. I'm sure they could not be happier with the results of the nominations this year. Between The King's Speech last year and now, it's safe to say they got their Miramax magic back.

Can't be upset at Drive not being nominated. It's a movie with a clear demographic, not enough broad appeal.

50/50 on the other hand should have been nominated. Fantastic movie.

To quote AO Scott, that's partially why Daniel Day Lewis has so many noms. With him, you can "see the acting."

.

Sure.. and imitation is revered. Knowing that I want Michelle Williams to win this year. Of course she won't win for the masterful "Wendy & Lucy"s, so when she has the chance with a biopic I say go for it.

I'm also pleased with the Warrior nomination.

I've seen Annie Hall, and I still enjoyed shit out of Midnight in Paris.

Tilda was robbed.

Sooo, John Williams gets nominated for TWO scores the same year, two of his weakest efforts in his entire career, but some of his better scores like the Star Wars prequels aren't nominated?

Yep, politics I suppose. Also LOL @ Deathly Hallows Part 2 not getting a score nomination. fuckiiiing ridiculous.
