Longest credits sequence at the end of a game?

Fable. My lord. I swear, they just start naming random ass people on a whim 70 percent through.

Agreed. I also remember the credit roll moving super slow as well. That really prolonged the duration. I think all 3 mainline games did this?

This thread is exactly what was going through my head after just finishing Mirror's Edge: Catalyst. I swear the credits went on for a good twenty-five to thirty minutes. Nothing entertaining is happening during that time either.

It definitely stuck out as something weird to me, as I went to get some food and a drink and came back to them still playing.

UbiSoft games are the worst in that regard.
There was one game (ZombiU I think) where I sat through the credits sequence twice it thrice because it loops. And I don't think it was skippable either.
Nowadays I always skip the credits in every game except Nintendo games. Those are at least shirt, well done and have very nice music.

I do believe this thread has given me a new pet peeve. For some reason, this kind of stupidity is just unbearable to me. Look at that shit. Slow as molasses scrolling speed, individual line per mention.

Seriously. It's ridiculous that you aren't able to skip every credit sequence. I played through your game, that's a sign of recognition. I don't respect a Miyamoto any more than a Fred Fuchs.

I think GTA5 was somewhere around 45 minutes, Ubisoft games are up there to, iirc Black Flag ran for well over 30 minutes. I let them roll just to see how long they were, but would wander off and do other crap and check back in.

I once tweeted in awe at the length of the credits in Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon. Not targeted to anyone in particular... But somehow someone on their team saw my tweet (maybe a producer?) and sent what sounded like an exasperated response.

... Anyway, yeah. It has to be a Ubisoft game.

OK?

If I didn't contribute to the game would you expect me to care ?

I paid the money for your game, that's all you deserve

Ugh.

Credits are how folks that worked on a game can prove their involvement, especially important since the existence of credits means the game shipped. More could be done to make lengthy credits palatable to gamers, no doubt. But getting the credit is essential for anyone who wants to remain employed in the games industry, especially since so many of the people in the credits are going to be out of work once the game ships.

I had the same thought after beating Doom. The only one, off the top of my head, that I'm sure is longer is Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

Ubisoft in general has long credits, but I think that's the longest I've seen. On later playthroughs, when you're powered up and good at the game, it's probably possible to beat the game in less time than it takes the credits to run.

And I think they're unskippable, to boot.

Unstoppable credits are absolutely pointless. It won't force players to appreciate each and every person, because they are never going to give a fuck. Even most gaming enthusiasts don't give a fuck outside of the big name behind the production. Just let us skip them.

Credits were a reward for beating a game. You'd sit back, admire some nice cinematics while the names scrolled by while often listening to one of the best scores in the game. Often they were so good you'd play the final boss again and again so you could experience the credits one more time. Kind of sad that they have lost that lustre over time.

GTAV is so long it loops through the same couple of songs multiple times.

It's a setup it's a setup it's a setup it's a setup it's a setup it's a setup it's a setup it's a setup it's a setup it's a setup it's a setup it's a setup it's a setup it's a setup it's a setup it's a setup it's a setup it's a setup it's a setup.

Imagine how long Shenmue III would be if they individually name every backer.

I remember the first Fable having really long credits. It didn't even have enough music or footage to fill the whole time. It just kept looping the same song and showing the same pictures over and over again.

And the worst thing is, you had to sit through it. The first time, I skipped the credits. Then when I loaded my file back up, it put me back at the final boss instead of back in the world to wander and do stuff. I had to fight the final boss again and then sit through the entire credits just to get back into the world.

The credits for Halo MCC were pretty huge because it basically included everybody who ever touched a Halo Game since its inception

Me irl after sitting through Metal Gear Solid 3's credits...

I seem to remember Sonic and the Secret Rings for the Wii have an absurdly long credits sequence.

Pretty sure it was unskippable and you had to watch it multiple times too.

I certainly didn't time it but Scott Pilgrim is the one that stands out for me. I guess that was an Ubisoft game, wasn't it?

I never understood why PR, HR/administrative support, legal, shit even finance teams have to be credited in games. It seems to go way further away from the creative team than movies do, for example.

I do appreciate developers that at least include some interesting stuff to look at while the credits roll. Or good tunes.
